Pelosi’s Congress Should Shelter At
Home For The Rest Of The Year

Original Article

Earlier this week, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer postponed lawmakers’ return to Washington DC, citing concerns about coronavirus transmission. Congress should stay out of Washington DC a lot longer. Even until next year. The primary reason isn’t because they, like health-care workers or truckers or grocery store employees or pastors, might catch coronavirus doing their jobs. The primary reason is that when they “do something,” Congress usually hurts the country far worse than if they just took naps in the closet or played cards all day, like my husband’s coworkers at a union-run former workplace.

Steny doesn't take a leak without asking Nancy if he can be excused. If anyone decided the Democrats should stay out it wasn't Steny. It was Nancy.

Wait...Wait...Nancy still has to blackmail Trump into putting Bail-Outs for Illinois, California, and New York in any Stimulus Bill, and to add money to bail out NY's MTA. There is still a lot of stuff she can "hang on the funding Christmas tree."

History will record this as: The Colossal Mistake--The Self Inflicted Ruin of the American Economy in 30 Days---by Republicans and Democrats. The mistake is enduring as government suppression of business re-openings will continue of months, including not allowing certain businesses to re-open, social distancing, masks, and occupancy limitations. All this government suppression ensures that 25% of our economy will not be allowed to function, all by government edict. None of the government suppression is supported by any evidence. You will not live a day longer, or shorter, because of any of this fiasco. I liked the authors statement: "every government bailout cent comes from future workers." (the stigmatization of social security and medicare as welfare is a rather larger over-generalization---I think I remember paying for this for over 50 years. Just a reminder to those that have forgotten).

I have belabored this on several sites. Article 2 Section 5 of the Constitution requires a quorum for either House of Congress to conduct business. Yet the House and Senate have been passing legislation by "unanimous consent"- a non recorded voice vote only verified by the Speaker of the House or the President of the Senate. Without a recorded vote we do not know who voted how and whether there was a quorum present. Due to the age The Founders had to expect the "quorum" would be present in the Capitol - no remote voting (To my knowledge they have never allowed a remote vote when a member could not be present). All "essential workers" are expected to show up to their jobs. If these Congressional cowards are going to pass legislation they should get their rears to DC. If they need to wear HazMat suits so be it!!!

In this day and age, especially during this pandemic, staying connected normally means staying glued to a screen. Yet sometimes, if we let it, the technology that often works to isolate us from our environment can bring people together. This is the true story of how I met my sister. One evening in February 1995, that sister, just out of law school, had moved to the Pacific Northwest. She flipped on her television, and, as she told me years later, what she found amazed her: I had just come home from work, turned on the TV, and was getting dinner ready. For some reason, I turned on Jeopardy!

We have rather taken for granted the constitutional guarantees of certainty, rule of law, and due process in recent years. We ignored the water drip torture of prosecutorial misconduct (the Trayvon Martin, Lewis Libby, Ted Stevens cases) and government overreaching (ObamaCare, the Kelo case), but in the past few weeks more of us -- from surfers and skateboarders to doctors, dentists, hospitals, and small shopkeepers -- have been forced to realize what life without these protections is like. And we don’t like it, any more than we like how the government lied, ignored the law quite clearly for purely partisan political purposes

When the postmortem is done on the media’s coverage of COVID-19 (and it will be), it will be clear that the virus was no Black Plague — it’s not even the flu on a bad year. SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19, has killed 56,749 Americans as of Tuesday. That’s not good. But it’s not as bad as the 2017-2018 flu season, when 80,000 -plus perished. And it’s a long cry from what all the experts were warning about just a few weeks ago: First, they predicted 1.7 million Americans dead; then they redid the models (this time apparently entering a few more “facts”) and said 100,000-240,000 dead.

The Democratic political field is awash with designing women. Stacey Abrams, a former Georgia State House leader, is aggressively marketing herself as a potential vice president for Joe Biden — increasingly irritating those in the former veep’s orbit, an insider said. Meanwhile, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, one Biden’s 2020 presidential-race rivals, is rarely mentioned as a possible running mate. She has her sights set on something else — secretary of defense, say those familiar with her plans. Female former candidates have also been auditioning for the VP job — albeit more subtly than Abrams. On April 20, Minnesota Sen.
