As Florida prepares to ease a month-long shutdown, Gov. Ron DeSantis delivered a scathing rebuttal of apocalyptic predictions for his state that were breathlessly hyped by the news media and proven wrong during the coronavirus crisis. The governor showed slides of media stories warning that Florida would quickly run out of hospital beds while predicting the state would be the “next New York” or even a disastrous “uber Italy.”Instead, the state with one of the most vulnerable populations due to age is faring well among the big states that were hit and is nowhere close to New York’s unfortunate predicament.Watch the presentation here:
The media shames themselves every day. Including FOX!

72 versus 4?
You don't have to be correct, just be 'close' (like in the same universe).

Gov. DeSantis has this all wrong...
The models were correct, but only because of the courageous and timely actions of the medical and public health communities, public officials, first responders, the media, and the public at large were these models' tragic projections not met.
Let's not forget the I-95 checkpoints to ensure no new infections arrived in the Sunshine State from NY, NJ or Connecticut, among other hotspots. That was a DeSantis initiative, and just look at the results!
And the heroic public took to self-quarantine and social distancing to protect themselves and their fellow residents, many elderly and frail.
C'mon, Governor, get with the program. It's all to your credit for such astute crisis management, enlisting the support of Floridians! When's Miami's flyover?

I really like this guy. He is not afraid to mix it up with media especially when they have besmirched his state during this virus event. He sticks up for his state the way Trump sticks up for America.

The NYC folks brought down a heck of a lot of cases to Broward and Dade counties (Miami area "plus", on SE coast), but even with that "kind donation", Florida has had relatively few cases.
Most of the state has had very little harm. The rural county that my relatives live in has had 2 deaths total, even very large cities like Jax, Orlando and Tampa have had 20-35ish deaths. Fort Meyers-Clearwater area has had 45 deaths. No subways, no commuter trains, few city buses, few elevators in residences.
Broward and Dade, plus West Palm Beach counties (NYC South) have well over half of all the cases in the state, very likely infected in Wuhan Central in the NYC metro area, then traveled to Fla "to escape the virus", and actually spreading it.
And still, with a 22 million population, Florida has had a total number of deaths that would be a DAILY death toll for NYC a few weeks ago, under 1,400 deaths. NYC had 300 deaths reported TODAY, a week ago were having more per day than all of Florida's total so far.
And a LOT of Florida's residents are elderly, supposedly the most likely to die from this Chinese virus. Florida has done very well, it looks like.

If they had stopped flights from NY to FL we would have less.

DeSantis, unlike most Governors, made a great decision by handling the state county by county instead of state wide .I think he would make a great President.
