The left’s ‘listen to the science’ mantra is
growing old. Trump listened and that’s the
problem

One of the left’s standard attacks on the President is that he doesn’t listen to the science! Sadly, he did listen to the so-called experts who predicted wildly hyperbolic death and destruction and he agreed to the economic shutdown.
“An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field.” - Niels Bohr
The President surely realizes by now that he should have operated on his gut instincts which rarely fail him. Dr. Fauci, for example, sees no patients. He looks at computer models, all of which were wrong.

Great article. The ads on local news this morning claiming the President “ignored the science” and explicitly blaming him for all Wuhan deaths in the US are disgraceful and shameless.
I cannot get my head around how truly vile the Left in this country is.

Fauci is more of an exalted bureaucrat than a doctor, and that's the wrong prescription for the US.

One of the brightest Greco-Roman physicians, Galen (AD 129–c. 216), advocated the bleeding of patients with leeches. This practice persisted in various parts of the world until as late as the 19th century. Science is a discovery process, not the only truth.

The leftists like to make up some "Mother Gaia" mumbo jumbo then turn it into fervent religious dogma that none dare question. TRUE science never complains when someone questions some aspect of a theory. It's done all the time in Physics. Imagine if Einstein had been hounded and ridiculed by leftists of the day for daring to question Sir Isaac Newton's physics? Only fascist-science requires all people to follow unquestioningly all aspects of their chosen fraudulent doctrines. From "evolution" to "global warming" to "Kung Flu" the left heaps scorn and ridicule on those with whom they deride politically, using "settled science" as yet another "burning coal" to pour upon their head.

Dr. Fauci is star struck. He loves Brad Pitt and thinks he should play him in a movie. He is obviously glorying in all of the attention he is getting. I don't trust him. With all of his great knowledge, he supported Hillary. That tells me all I need to know about him. He throws out curves to make himself look good and to make Pres. Trump look bad. It is called HUBRIS.

Way back in my residency, the definition of an “expert” was someone who was more than fifty miles from home and had slides**. (**slides were crudely-constructed small physical objects designed to project data onto a screen)

The Nazis used “science” too.
Propped up a lot of horrid ideas and actions using “scientists” as their appeal to authority.
It’s an old socialist trick.

What I've seen is NOT Science...it is whole lot of postulating, guessing and supposing based on made up BS called Models, all done by lots of 'Experts' Educated way beyond their intelligence...and most of them are BIASED to the LEFT!
Time to cut their strings and let them fall into the muck...by the way, can they be sued for totally botching the entire process?

The media thinks that Political Science is a real science, like biology or physics. Also, that journalism is supposed to be propaganda and political activism. They know nothing about real science. They quote real scientists, when it suits their narrative, and ignore those that don't. The problem is that they don't know the difference. It's all about narrative.

Clearly science, particularly junk science, has messed us over. We were doing well under Trump's Art of the Deal. Let Trump be Trump and leave science out of it. Like the composers of old were wont to do, scientists only perform for other scientists.

Well, the "science" of epidemiology over thousands of years is settled that the ONLY way to control an epidemic, not just initially but in successive waves, is to develop "herd immunity." Sweden's strategy on no lockdown is developing herd immunity. The US strategy is not. This extended lockdown may have helped our hospital infrastructure resupply and avoid being overwhelmed, but it is not allowing herd immunity to develop.
Without herd immunity, it guarantees that there will likely be another and possibly more serious wave in the fall (due to mutations of the virus and a large remaining pool of individuals with no immunity). Those who point to Sweden's slightly larger mortality numbers compared to its neighbor lockdown countries are not taking that into account. And neither is the U.S.

Far too often, and expert is just somebody with a loud mouth. They are as human as the next person which means they make a dozen mistakes a day.
Hopefully Trump realizes by now how badly things went sideways on him when he started listening to the scientists. Not sure he does. He made CV top priority, the economy shrank 4.8% in first quarter, and its far from over. Trump is at his best when he follows his own advice.
The best barometer for the CV pandemic is all the empty hospital beds. Stop following all the CV death tolls and confirmed cases.

I do not agree with the assumption here that the President fell under the data spell and did not "go with his gut". Let's recall the politics of all of this: the data guys were in charge of the information, and all the info was based on modeling. So, the President gave way on that score, and, GOING WITH HIS GUT, necessarily losing the battle, but winning the war: the states will open up, the economy will come back. Retroactive wisdom here is not wisdom at all, but reactionary theory.

If there is anything that could be said to be a mistake about the first Trump term, it is indeed that he listened to those two globalist ghouls who pretend to be experts. If he wants to make it up to us, stop dithering about reopening the nation. As the Nike ad says, 'Just do it!'

Very good article. I agree with everything in it. This economy should never have been shut down. There needs to be an investigation and an accounting of this fiasco, and those responsible for all these damages held accountable. I am still trying to figure out what business interruption insurance covers, so far I am learning nothing.

Government folks are used to inflating the numbers so they can justify spending more money on all sorts of programs for the homeless, the X, Y and Z.
Recall, back when Reagan was president, and they were claiming 3 million homeless? Figuring it would startle people, and they would react.
Hopefully, more will start to realize that these models are nothing more than figures input into a program designed to produce a desired result.
They aren't necessarily correct, and it will have huge consequences when they are needed to be believed in the future, when they have it correct, but since they were the "boy who cried wolf" too many times previously, they will be ignored.

Are we agreeing that PDT is fallible? Maybe? He bought the models and expert opinions, which all led to the virtual shutdown of our economy. And now what?
"Sorry about that, Chief," in the voice of Don Adams.
While "our Democrat politicians and the members of the media who show up at those briefings uninformed" our GOP politicians are either compliant or silent lest they offend anyone by their own ignorance. They show up only when they can vote TRILLIONS to continue this fraud. There's no honor in that, either.
And I was trying so hard to be optimistic.

So true. I do not blame our president for listening to the experts and following their advice. Whether through malfeasance or, most likely, through incompetence and insularity the experts have been spectacularly wrong. Trump is stuck with them but he needs to push them aside and move on to saving this nation. I had hoped to see a change of tone this week but so far it hasn’t materialized. Time is slipping away, Mr. President. Get cracking.

I ran the numbers for perpetually locked down Democrat run Davidson Co. , home to Nashville, TN.
Confirmed positive Covid-19 cases= .373% of the county population.
Confirmed Covid-19 deaths= .0036% of the county population.
And for this we are destroying our city.
