A leading coronavirus treatment candidate succeeded in a critical trial, helping COVID-19 patients recover faster than those taking a placebo comparison.
The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) released preliminary results Wednesday from its study testing remdesivir. The data review includes just over 1,000 hospitalized patients, who were randomly assigned to take either Gilead's antiviral drug or placebo.
Patients taking remdesivir recovered 31% faster than those on placebo, the NIH found — knocking four days off the typical recovery time.

Will Dr. Wuhan Fauci get on Board with Remdesivir? Will he financially benefit? And is Bill Gates ok with it?
I want to know money trails for all these drug companies.. and backers. I want a cure, vaccine as much as next person. I just have a skeptical antenna twitching

Good to know that this antiviral drug works against this virus, too. Viruses are extremely variable, so it is always a bit iffy to see if one of our rare antiviral drugs will work on multiple viruses. It doesn't appear to "knock the virus out", but 31% quicker recovery is great news, clearly a big benefit.
This is very good to hear.
There are still a number of other drugs in testing, with famotidine (Pepsid active ingredient), hydroxychloroquine, and a few others showing some promise, too. Having treatments earliest
is so important for patients who are sick now. I'm sure that multiple treatments will be tried, too,
at some point.
Fortunately, Trump hasn't mentioned remdesivir previously much, so they didn't have to hide the results. 🙄

31% faster? So what? At what cost? Unless it lowers mortality, recovering faster is likely not worth what they will charge for it.

At last! A randomized, placebo-controlled trial showing that remdesivir shortens patients's illness, and seems to reduce death rate. This trial is believable and can be relied on. Fauci has a zero percent chance of either benefiting or losing out on this drug, so every need to quit complaining about him

So Gilead's new drug Remdesivir, an anti-viral, has test results of 31% in COVID patients. BIG WHUP!! HCQ with or w/o Zith &/or Zinc has 91% success, IF started at the onset of symptoms, NOT waiting until patients in the VA or nursing homes are in the "throes of death!" Plus, Fauci and NIH's vaccine (made with the cells of ABORTED BABIES!!), won't be out until next year! HCQ has been in use for DECADES as an anti-malaria drug, also several auto-immune diseases such as lupus and RA, with a phenomenal safety rate. It's cheap, and no one is filling up their off-shore bank accounts either. Get real, folks, follow the darn money trail, straight to Fauci & Co!!

One online source, written when remdesivir was just entering testing estimated that it would be priced at about $900 or $1,000 per 'course of treatment'.
I would imagine that HCQ or CQ would be WAY less, maybe $100 total, if it was taken orally. If infused, that seems likely to cost more. I don't know if a PICC line would be required or just a normal IV in the back of a hand. Back of hand would be easy to be supported on an out patient basis for many folks.
Others are so freaked by needles as to need professional care.

Time to discharge reduced from 15 days to 11 days. That saves a lot of misery, and if you consider the cost of four days in the hospital, it also saves a lot of money. If they price it at $1000 for a full course of treatment, it would be a bargain. Gilead has already provided 1.5 million doses at not cost.
Congratulations Gilead, and nice presentation, Dr. Fauci. Let's hope some of the other on-going clinical trials for HCQ and other drugs return such positive results.

A suggestion from an Ldotter posted to yesterday’s Must-Read, “Anthony Fauci should explain ‘$3.7 million to the Wuhan laboratory’” (Washington Times, by Cheryl K. Chumley) to post a news article from the American Family Association dated April 27, 2020 written by Bryan Fischer (Fauci Knew About HCQ in 2005 – Nobody Needed to Die) referenced an official publication of the National Institutes of Health, “The Virology Journal,” that revealed “Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread” that was dated August 22, 2005. That “These inhibitory effects are observed when the cells are treated with the drug either before or after exposure to the virus, suggesting both prophylactic and therapeutic advantage.” From “The Virology Journal” – Results: We report, however, that chloroquine has strong antiviral effects on SARS-CoV infection of primate cells.”
According to the article, chloroquine is a relatively safe, effective, and cheap drug used for treating many human diseases and has been around since 1934. The article cites two doctors using the medication are “saving lives at $20 a pop” which translates to “no money in HCQ for Big Pharma since HCQ is a generic that can be manufactured so cheaply there is little profit margin in it” whereas “the payday for a vaccine will literally be off-the-charts.” The author does ponder whether or not there might be some “kind of behind-the-scenes pressure is being put on Fauci and others in the health care establishment.”

This is not an experimental drug. It was used to treat ebola. It has not been used before for COVID-19 because we didn’t have COVID-19. Will Dr. Fauci to climb on this bandwagon…?
