New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife were heckled by locals as they walked through Prospect Park in Brooklyn over the weekend, despite living 11 miles away in Manhattan. De Blasio was filmed strolling with his wife Chirlane McCray, both of whom were wearing masks, through the historic park on Saturday afternoon. New Yorker Darren Goldner took video of the moment he scolded the Mayor for forcing an entourage of four SUV security vehicles to drive his family to the park for a nonessential recreational walk in a completely different borough.(Snip) De Blasio was seen waving his hand dismissively towards the camera

Comments:

This is the beloved mayor who needs "congestion pricing" in order to cut down on ordinary slobs using the roads. At the end of the video, Big Bird's babysitters are seen violating social distancing rules. Comedy gold.

So much hypocrisy going on with this virus. Especially with the governors. Certainly there is ample space to walk about on the grounds of Gracie Mansion. Bill De Blasio looks good in a mask. He should wear it all the time.

Maybe De-blah-blah-sio's attitude towards this pandemic likely explains the horrific COVID19 death rate in New York City. According to the Johns Hopkins University COVID19 website (as of 8 pm PDT last night, April 26), New York City, at 2.7% of the U.S. population, accounted for 35% of all U.S. COVID19 deaths. To put this in perspective, the #deaths per million population attributed to COVID 19 (as of last night): 1,986 per million for New York City, compared to 1,142 per million for New York state, 497 per million for Spain, 431 per million for Italy, 44 per million for California, and 167 per million for the U.S. as a whole (incl. New York's contribution). Way to go, Mayor!

Correction to my Post #7, above (fumble fingers on my part): NY City represented 31.5% of all U.S. COVID19 deaths, not 35%. New York state, at about 6% of the U.S. population, represented 40.6% of all U.S. COVID19 deaths. All other data is accurate at posted.

The Trump administration notified Congress this week that it will try to refill the money it took from Pentagon accounts to use to build the border wall by cutting European defense assistance. The move angered Democrats on Capitol Hill, who said President Trump is playing games with the Defense Department’s money, moving money to further his own ends and ignoring what Congress intended. To make matters worse, they said, is the European Defense Initiative is a signal of support for U.S. allies against Russian aggression, and cutting the money is dangerous. “Once again, the Trump administration is putting domestic political considerations ahead of national security,

Men make up nearly 75 percent of the coronavirus patients in intensive care or on ventilators at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Dr. Sara Ghandehari, a pulmonologist, told the New York Times. Meanwhile, infected men in NYC were dying at close to twice the rate of COVID-infected women as of early April, NPR reports. President Trump’s wall is the most aggressive border construction project in U.S. history — but it just got 22 miles shorter. The latest calculations for how much wall can be built with the $15 billion Mr. Trump has won from Congress or siphoned from other Pentagon accounts works out to 731 miles, which would be more border fence than every previous president combined has built. But it’s also 22 miles shorter than the Department of Homeland Security and the Army Corps of Engineers were projecting at the beginning of April. Officials said a certain pot of Defense Department money can’t stretch as far as they originally thought.
