A French study found that only 4.4% of 350 coronavirus patients hospitalized were regular smokers and 5.3% of 130 homebound patients smoked
This pales in comparison with at least 25% of the French population that smokes
Researchers theorized nicotine could prevent the virus from infecting cells or that nicotine was preventing the immune system from overreacting to the virus
To test this theory, hospitalized coronavirus patients, intensive care patients and frontline workers nicotine patches
Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

David Hockney was interviewed in the movie "Tim's Vermeer". I remember Hockney smoked liked a chimney.Whew! Very interesting movie and very interesting Wuhan virus theory. I would have thought that smokers would be the first to expire.

While I appreciate the irony, I'm still glad I finally quit because just waking up in the morning hacking and spewing was probably as bad as the C symptoms. If you smoke do your damndest to quit. If you don't smoke Don't Start.

Nicotine is a well known insecticide, so maybe it kills this "bug"

What's the old joke - I took up smoking to get off the nicotine patch. Bring on the Wolf Wintergreen Long Cut (and watch out for that second hand spit).

My guess is that smoking dampens your immune system a little which is beneficial in the case of CV-19 . For example, with Crohn’s disease, an GI immune system disease, smokers tend to do a little better because smoking depresses your immune system. I do not know if this effect is due to elements in the cigarette smoke other than nicotine, or the nicotine itself.

In my analysis it has nothing to do with nicotine. Those stinking, hacking smokers just encourage 'social distancing' because no one wants to get near them in the first place.

I doubt this will mean they will take the cancer warnings off the cigarette packs.

I agree with #9. They leave the fellowship group to go be alone outside and smoke, so they have less exposure to the virus. If you went outside to walk instead of remaining inside with your co-workers for the break, it might produce the same benefit.

Somewhere in the dustbin of my memory I remember Rush talking about the irony of the resurgence of the tobacco industry because nicotine had proven an effective treatment in one of these communicable diseases. Can't remember which disease; but I thought of my husband's uncle who grew tobacco in southern Indiana and lived well into his 90's.

Although nicotine is a toxin, it does in fact aid a number of health issues. Smokers have much lower levels of serious digestive diseases like Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease. Additionally, smokers have a much lower incidence of Parkinson's Disease, and nicotine patches are often used to treat symptoms of the disease. Additionally, nicotine is an immune modulator that may somehow protect you from the more serious symptoms of Covid-19.
However, you don't have to smoke or use a nicotine patch or gum in order to increase nicotine levels in your body. Although there are several common vegetables that contain nicotine, bell peppers have the most bioactive quantities of the chemical. In order to achieve adequate levels of nicotine in your system, you need to eat three servings of bell peppers a week. Yellow and red bell peppers contain more nicotine than the green varieties. However, you cancel out the nicotine if you consume the seeds, any other types of peppers or any food that contains capsaicim (the stuff in peppers that makes them hot).
But let's say that the Spanish study is incorrect and you ate a lot of peppers for nothing. Unlike a lot of things you consume, eating more bell peppers for a few months isn't going to hurt you.

Smokers go outside because they are forced to by the holier than thou crowd who weren't allergic to anything until it became stylish. Then everyone wanted on the bandwagon to be an allergic victim of those horrible air polluters who were worse than radioactive.
It didnt matter that their parents smoked, as did their grandparents and darned near everyone they knew. All of a sudden it became like eating a Belladonna salad.
This is depressing. Another liberal narrative shot out of the water. I think I'll have a smoke and think about it.

#15:
Capsaisin forces the body to excrete certain toxins. One of those toxins is nicotine. Consequently, you get none of the benefits of nicotine when you consume hot peppers. So in other words, you are not protected against digestive diseases, Parkinson's and possibly Covid-19.

I guess that smoking isn't an underlying condition...
