The Houston Police Officers' Union is not shy in expressing how they really feel about Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo's order that all residents of Harris County must wear a mask under the threat of fines and prison. Governor Abbot began to lift restrictions across Texas earlier this week. Hildalgo seems to be full of authoritarian glee and is giving Gretchen Whitmer competition for her status as the most hated woman in America.
Hildalgo swept into power by accident, having the good fortune to be on the same side of the ticket as Beto O'Rourke. With no experience, and still a grad school student, Hildalgo was elected

Well, FINALLY! Sick of this “Mother, May I” game we are playing! We don’t want just SOME of our freedoms back. We want them ALL back! You get your restaurant, but only 50%. Three people out, two can now go in. Wear your mask, fish on the beach, but don’t sit on the beach, ad in finitum! Stop this CRAP!

Good for the Houston Police Officers Union! Unlike Hidalgo, they are smart enough to know priorities and know that this latest ignorant order is unenforceable. In addition, the HPOU was not happy with Hidalgo's 1000+ prisoner release order earlier in April for which the police were not consulted, which thankfully was ordered to a stop by a judge.
Hidalgo daily and routinely lies about the current situation in Harris County to justify her totalitarian stupidity, even though the numbers clearly show new cases peaked there on April 10. Fortunately, Texas Governor Abbott knows how to read and is doing the right thing by reopening businesses. Hidalgo is giving Whitmer competition on an AOC scale, and hopefully all three of them will be one and done.

All our liberties, God given, are subject to public security, health and in some cases morality. considerations. But to claim these conditions falsely for political purposes is as good as tyrannically denying them. No different than George III..

" We need a whole lot more police unions across the nation joining in the cause." Frankly I am surprised that other police forces have not similarly reacted. Our armed forces understand that orders which are immoral and unconstitutional are not legal and should not be followed. I have been disappointed thus far that some police have enforced impermissible decrees with taking pictures, spiking parking lots, and issuing tickets. I hope others will now be encouraged to do the right thing.

Wow, what a mistake. Hidalgo is a common Puerto Rican name. I think she should be stripped of her job and sent back there to help her former neighbors rebuild from the hurricane where she can take part in the corruption that is status quo down there. This woman is not an American by any stretch of the imagination.
Four thousand prisoners let loose would be a problem in most areas of the country but in Texas it would be like restocking game before hunting season.

I didn't know that judges were authorized to make laws. I though that was the purpose of the legislature. Do judges think they are legislators, as well?
No wonder people are outraged. All these little dictators coming out of the woodwork illustrate what abuse they like to inflict.

#12 - Texas has some funny laws regarding emergencies. I thought the dame as you...but that's not Texas law.
If you'd like a cite: Texas Government Code, Chapter 418 gives the county judge the power to declare a local disaster within the county under certain circumstances...The county may enforce a penalty of a fine not to exceed $1,000 or confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 180 days for a failure to comply with a disaster declaration.

fta: We do not have time to be pawns in Hidalgo's game of attempting to control the actions of law abiding, tax paying individuals of our community. Especially since this idiotic order is possibly an unconstitutional one from the County Judge.
OUCH, that's gonna leave a mark.

Hidalgo and Turner are written down as kick out of office as soon as possible. All of Houston's officials are crooks, so you have to elect the one that will take less, which is how Turner got elected. Both are elected for 4 year terms, and were just elected, so Houston is stuck with this pair for a long time. I hope the people will be looking up the Houston recall law, and starting a petition.

I have seen some posters make the same mistake as some of the ones who are commenting on this thread. As you might recall, Texans sometimes have a funny way of doing things. In that state, the elected top official in a county, who would be called an executive or chairman in other parts of the country, is titled County Judge, and is an elected administrative position. Harris County is the home to Houston and I once knew the Harris County Judge named Ed Emmett, who was a former Republican state legislator and chairman of the Interstate Commerce Commission (which went out of business in 1996).

Well, at least some police officers are being sensible these days. Good after seeing so many just loving their little totalitarian tricks of arresting people for being in an empty park with their kids and such.

Not sure if anyone here remembers at the end of the Cheers TV series, the dimwitted Woody gets elected to the Boston City Council. Same concept here. No qualifications for this woman and I'm sure taking her orders from Soros who probably paid for her campaign.

Hidalgo is a poster child for the problems associated with straight ticket voting. She got very lucky getting swept into the county judge position via straight ticket voting. She is in no way qualified for this executive level position and it's painfully obvious with her every press conference. She is still wet behind BOTH ears and has no business whatsoever in this job.
