Craig Coopersmith was up early that morning as usual and typed his daily inquiry into his phone.(Snip) asking for updates from the ICU team leaders working across 10 hospitals in the Emory University health system in Atlanta.
One doctor replied that one of his patients had a strange blood problem. Despite being put on anticoagulants, the patient was still developing clots.(Snip)every person on the text chat had reported the same thing.
“That’s when we knew we had a huge problem,” said Coopersmith, a critical-care surgeon. As he checked with his counterparts at other medical centers, he became increasingly alarmed: “It was in as many as 20, 30 or 40 percent

FTA:
Autopsies have shown some people’s lungs fill with hundreds of microclots. Errant blood clots of a larger size can break off and travel to the brain or heart, causing a stroke or heart attack. On Saturday, Broadway actor Nick Cordero, 41, had his right leg amputated after being infected with the novel coronavirus and suffering from clots that blocked blood from getting to his toes.
Lewis Kaplan, a University of Pennsylvania physician and head of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, said every year doctors treat people with clotting complications, from those with cancer to victims of severe trauma, “and they don’t clot like this.”

Re #2, didn’t see that in this article. In fact, hydrochloroquinone has been found to cut the risk of thrombosis (blood clotting) in lupus patients. ???

Mysterious? Bull cookies.
I repeat:
The reality is this: The ChiComs unleashed this germ warfare engineered plague on the world targeting specifically America.
This ChiCom engineered disease attacks the cardiovascular (heart) respiratory, circulatory (creating blood clots) and gastrointestinal systems simultaneously. This ain’t no common freaking cold. It’s a weapon. And it has not been beat down and there IS GOING TO BE BLOWBACK as the population re-engages indiscriminately,
Bill of Rights or not.
Count on it. Now, there ain’t no N95 ‘s for all us pilgrims. Why is that! Guess who’s got the vaccine? We’ll it ain’t us. And Hydroxy? Can cause blood clots on top of ChiCom clots. Get it?
“They” don’t want a resolution, We are at war with the ChiComs, “we” are too stupid to realize same. Get ready for the next crisis following the previous crisis following the previous crisis.
Get N99 masks Kemo Sabe, you are going to need them as the buffalo go over the cliff. Vaporize the ChiComs.
MAGA?
One can only hope, sucking air through that N95.

It has been reported that the virus caused the iron molecule in Hemoglobin to be broken away causing free iron in the blood and destroying the ability of the red cells to carry oxygen. Free iron in the blood would very likely cause clots and may not respond to anti-coagulants. This may not be as much of a mystery as they are making it out to be. The reason that Hydroxychloroquine works is that it keeps the virus from breaking the irons away from the Heme molecule.

I have previously seen comments by physicians and researchers that this virus doesn't appear to be the typical respiratory type. Rather it apears to be a blood disorder that reduces the oxygen carrying ability of the blood that then results in respiratory/lung problems. That would also explain why ventilators don't seem to have any significant salutary effect.
And I agree with those that see this as they carefully designed bioweapon more than your typical naturally-occurring virus. China is exactly the type of government that would stoop to unleash such a weapon...deadly for your enemies and not likely to result in a retaliatory military strike. Over time, your enemy is greatly weakened, its economy is destroyed, its military is diminished, and your country becomes at least equal if not dominant.
I also suspect that China has developed a real antidote and vaccine that they are not sharing with the rest of the world but are using to control any effects on their population. How else would you explain the very limited impact of the disease in China. They are way more crowded and more primitive in their medical facilities than the US. It makes NO sense otherwise.

So is there any commonality among these blood-clot susceptible people, such as blood type, or RH factor or ... lots of ACE2 receptors?

Agree with Poster#12...That's what worked for me!..... My comment is in Reference to the level of Blood Sugar one has in their system. Particularly, in our society where Diabetes has been problematic, and possibly contributed to the under-laying conditions that exacerbated the effects of of the virus and via organ failures, and resulted in patient deaths?. I have been told that some doctors suspect that the virus, and its systemic spread, might be a factor of the virus 'feeding' off of elevated levels of Blood Sugar in patients?

#15, viruses don't feed. They don't have any metabolism at all. They are specific cellular program snippets in clever delivery packages.

Here we go. Quite coincidental that the WaPo heard of something first three months into the Bat Flu scare. Lots of hospital administered drugs can cause blood clots. What else do these patients have and what were they given?

One more time. About hydroxychloroquinone aka Plaquenil:
Plaquenil is “such a simple drug, and yet so powerful,” says Askanase. “It is the aspirin for lupus.” That is, Plaquenil may do for lupus what aspirin does for cardiovascular disease—reduce blood clotting and improve outcomes.

re - paywall (#3, et al): Many sites permit a small number of 'trial' or introductory views without subscribing. For those, it's enough to delete browser cookies when you run out of trial views. (If you don't want to delete all cookies, go through them by hand and delete the WaPo-related ones). Some offer no such 'trial' views (e.g. omaha.com)... basically, subscribe or else.)
The anti-adblocker measures give me more trouble. In many cases I have to decide whether my interest in a particular site exceeds my revulsion to the ads running on that site. There are a few sites that I have white-listed in my blocker.

That's what I've read, #7. Apparently, an iron molecule, which is an essential component in the blood in delivering oxygen to the organs, is decoupled from the heme and once free-floating, so to speak, triggers the immune system into a cytokine storm, releasing chemical defenses that instead lead to flooding the lung sacs with fluid and causing cascading organ failure. I don't know if I have all the nomenclature correct, but this appears to be the mechanism.
Perhaps this same mechanism causes the blood clotting.
