President Trump said Wednesday that he's instructed the U.S. Navy to "shoot down and destroy" any Iranian gunboats harassing American ships, in the wake of a tense encounter in the Persian Gulf.
"I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea," Trump tweeted. The encounter happened last week. Six U.S. Navy warships were conducting drills with US Army Apache attack helicopters in international waters off Iran last Wednesday when they were repeatedly harassed by 11 Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Navy vessels, the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet reported.

Would have been good to take them on the first time. Sometimes we're too lenient. They're the enemy.

You know what is going to happen. The Iranians are going to fill these boats up with women and children, and taunt these American ships into firing on them.
The American ships had better have state-of-the-art video systems to show the truth, because the Iranians are going to use this for propaganda -- with the full support of American Demon-Rats in Congress!!!!!

I expect that the Iranians may test the US Navy. But as pointed out above, load up a boat with women and children, or men in Burkas as a propaganda stunt.
Then again, they already experienced Trump ordering a Hellfire missile attack in friendly territory to take their beloved terrorist leader out.
Neither scenario would surprise me.

Given the ongoing military tensions with Iran, the fact that the president is only now declaring "weapons free" makes it look like a political move instead of a standing policy.

Trump’s warning should have the added benefit of raising Gulf oil prices, which will benefit our producers. One hopes the Ayatollah gets the message since military actions can quickly escalate.

The 11 Iranian vessels are probably the usual one-gun Boston Whalers that they call ships. Sink them all and nodoby will know what happened.

It's about time. This is why we elected a real President, instead of the Muslim apologist we(they) had for 8 years.

Right #6. Wouldn't CENTCOM have in its ROE the standard "self defense" clause? Puzzling.

Since the Navy does not “shoot down” surface vessels, and task force and squadron commanders need real time discretion to engage a hostile actor, a clarification of national policy from DOD would be more effective and less controversial.

Next time they show up, put a couple of Seals into the water to attach mines to the hulls of the boats. When the Iranians are done with their display, detonate mines when boats are about to clear horizon. When U.S. is asked about incident, shrug shoulders.

This is a dangerous game of chicken the Iranians are playing-but REMEMBER, John Kerry and Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) have been in contact with the Iranians in the past, so who knows what these traitors are telling the mullahs. They are still trying to resurrect the nuclear deal Obama made.

President Trump’s public “tweet” is a clear warning to the Iranians that unless they are thinking of committing suicide they had better think again and stop making runs at US warships. The real authority and guidelines that the US military will use if the Iranians are foolish enough to disregard the President’s “tweet” will be included in a revised classified rule of engagement that will not be made public.

Brian K., on Fox & Friends, asked McSally, who is a retired Air Force pilot as well as a politician, if she thought the Navy would respond to the President's Tweet and blow up Iranian boats!
Brian: The Tweet is for you media people. The President communicates with the Navy by other means! I though Brian had more sense than that!
And yes. The Navy will blow away any Iranian boats that threaten their ships. I'm sure that President Trump will send out a Tweet for the media when that happens...

IF they fill the boats with women/children, have snipers take out the Rev. Guard dudes then take the rest back to land...blow up any interference on land...
The easier way is to send in the Seals with huge backup and take out the entire 'Navy' of Iran..shouldn't take more than a day or so!

The USN has a pair (or more) of Phalanx CIWS on each ship, capable of automatically and accurately engaging surface targets like these boats with 50 rounds per second of 20mm fire from point blank range to over one mile range. Phalanx tracks it's own stream of projectiles in flight and corrects aim until there is impact with the target. USN crews call it "R2D2".
The Iranians would be wise not to try this stunt again. They will not like the new ROE.
