For the press, it's quite the 'gotcha' dance.
The National Institutes of Health's refusal to recommend the use of the common anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine in combination with the antibiotic azithromycin for the treatment of COVID-19 , was proof positive according to the "science" that President Trump was wrong about the use of the drug, as well as an incompetent who was touting quack medicine, given that he noted the treatment as promising on one of his tweets.
They've finally got something to pin on him.
Here's a sampler of some of the headlines out there from NPR, CNN, Forbes, The Hill and the New York Times:

NIH? Good grief. Go get the AMA opinion while you're at it.

Toxic corrosive media virus is more dangerous, but with an easy cure: turn them off.

The press is happy to have people die if it will advance their war against President Trump. I hope I never get Covid 19 but if I get it I am demanding hydroxychloroquine and a Z pack. I hope all these people in the MSM rot in Hades if they cause anyone to die from their hatred of Trump.

LOL. Read the report. It is a VA hospital. Sadly, the VA usually caters to vets that have no where else to go. The reported median age was 65, but of the elderly, ALL had some underlying medical condition.....that is why they were in the VA system. The report also points out that since this was Columbia SC, there was a high (66%) of blacks who sadly are statistically not fairing well with this virus due to diet/diabetes, which along with heart disease was the majority of these "subjects". Using this population as a sample was dishonest to begin with AND the subjects were not given the HCQ at the onset of the symptoms. The VA is filled with deep state players.

How many will die because of this lie? Shame on the media. A number of Democrats have stated they would not take HCQ - I can't recall whether it was 18% or the reverse 82%. Now that number will go higher. I have a friend who is a true believer' and has TDS. I told him about HCQ and he wouldn't believe me, even after I told him I read the abstracts of several studies that included over 2400 patients. HCQ in combo with Zinc & an antibiotic ( a Z-Pak for those w/o heart problems - a different antibiotic for those who do have heart issues) when administered in early onset was successful more than 99% of the time. It is between you and your doctor - if he can get it to you before you have to go to the hospital. Sadly a lot of people don't know about HCQ or are so far gone before they get it. And yes, if you have diabetes or some other health problem and you get this Wuhan Pneumonia you will have a difficult time.

Oh, and please note "insufficient clinical data" which means that they are likely waiting for a double-blind placebo based study. Using a placebo in a situation like this is unethical.

What is new? It is what NIH chief Fauci has been saying since Day 1.

Also missing from the Who What When Where & Why:
When was it administered? At the very first sign/positive test? After the ICU admission?
Gotcha is more important, even if we lie by omission to get it.

#4 and #5, good points, and information, which is not something many Democrats, or most of the media, seem to care about.
Their main objective is to "GET" Trump, and try to connect as many Republicans to him to take over the WH, keep the House and take the Senate
.
Can you imagine that combination?
Just sit out the election, or decide someone has issue you may not like (the alternative is MUCH worse), and imagine how they'll cover-up the FISA and FBI scandals.

Expect a law making it a crime for doctors to prescribe it. I remember when Okie From Muskogee was the popular song of the day and the press, doing their duty, went to Muskogee, Oklahoma to prove they smoked marijuana in Muskogee. Now this.

I'm not buying the 18% (or 82%) that won't take the Z-pak if they contact the virus. These liberal narcissists of the LSM would be crying and begging for the pak, like a certain governor did after threatening Drs. if they prescribed it to their patients. They wouldn't take the chance of getting so sick that they couldn't harras PDT everyday at his briefings.

No matter what drug is given, someone somewhere is going to die. Some people are allergic to aspirin. They will die if they take it. If they are taking another drug, this drug may not be agreeable with it and the mixture is lethal. I get so tired of politicians and so-called journalists telling us what they think about certain drugs. Never hear of them complaining about coccain or heroin, etd. They are all using this pandemic to campaign for Biden who has dementia. Beam me up!

We have plenty of evidence that it does work so the report means nothing. We already have learned that the reports these people produce are often seriously wrong. They, the agencies who produce these reports, are not trustworthy anymore.

The press has nothing but bupkis. Just saying. Nice of them to ignore all the ties Fauci and others have to the alphabet soup of agencies who are antiTrump at the moment.

Anyone who does this research knows there are no straight line corrolations and one sees only what one wants to see. I do not doubt hydroxychloroquin doesn’t always work. But I am positive there is something strange when someone taking a relatively safe drug and dies. There is more to this than just “proof” it doesn’t work. There are a lot of politics in these “findings”.
