Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker indicated Wednesday that he intends for the state to continue with a vote on a planned income tax hike for top earners this November, as he warns the budget could face yawning deficits due to the coronavirus crisis.(Snip) Pritzker said in the update that because of the unexpected loss of revenues, the deficit for fiscal 2021 in the state is expected to be $6.2 billion. But he warned if the constitutional amendment to move the state to a graduated income tax fails, that number will be above $7 billion.
Illinois currently has a flat tax of almost 5 percent in place, but Democrats have been pushing

Yup, you knew this was "Phase 2 of the Great Pandemic Hoax: Raise Taxes."
No,no,no, Fat Boy. Let's see a 50% reduction in State personnel costs first. Including personnel salaries, benefits, AND golden parachute pensions. Otherwise, Phase 3 will be: The Great Hanging of Public Officials Responsible for the Great Pandemic Hoax.

Glad I am no longer a resident of Illinois - run by Governor Tubby, a left-wing loon. Watch more high income people flee Illinois. I guess Tubby is not aware that the internet and remote working has released us from Libtard Bondage

I honestly have a hard time comprehending the likes of this. The US and all other world economies have basically crashed and Illinois politicians" contribution is to RAISE TAXES ???
Even "Atlas Shrugged" didn't quite go this far.
I'm John Galt and I approve this message.

A graduated tax is opening the door to tax unfairness where some pay and others don't at all.

Ever notice how the only solution to deficit spending is never any cuts in spending and only increases in spending? If I was a business and not making a profit, the only solution I would have is to raise prices. In IL if they raise taxes there will be a gradual increase in the numbers of those affected leaving the state.

Sure, sure. The idiots will pass this then cry foul when they learn that the targets of their money grab have all moved to other states.

Pritzker is using the Corona bug as a scapegoat for years of democrat corruption, destruction and overspending. Illinois has been gasping for breath for years and people are fleeing. The downward spiral will continue without huge federal (US Taxpayer) assistance. The same with California.

Anyone with the ability to do so should move out of this State...especially higher wage earners!

Please Illinois. stay in Chicago with your mass killings every weekend and your January horizontal snow. If you do happen to come to Texas bring skills and remember why you left.

To all those fleeing Illinois, please go to California. I heard they have a great climate and oodles of lovely girls. Stay away from places like Florida, with all its elderly people and sand fleas. Likewise Texas, with its rattlesnakes and tornadoes. Likewise New Mexico and Arizona, deserts and gila monsters. I heard Washington and Oregon are great, especially along the Pacific coast.

The government has forced much of the workforce to stay home and because of that they need more revenue.
