One of the most unforgettable moments in the movie Braveheart takes place after William Wallace has been betrayed, captured by his enemy Edward Longshanks, and condemned to death by torture. His lover Princess Isabelle visits him in prison and begs Wallace to confess and pledge his allegiance to King Edward, saying, "You will die. It will be awful." Wallace responds, "Every man dies. Not every man truly lives." (snip) According to the statistical models, I'm considered in the high-risk category for coronavirus because I've had asthma since my birth, now almost sixty years ago.

A bit a sanity in these days of overreaction caused by politicians and bureaucrats.

2020 will be remembered as the year the government forced us once again do “duck and cover” under our school desks....

Enough is enough and I believe most of us have had enough. It’s time to tell the modelers to get out of the way.

I hate this approach to dealing with the Virus. Shutting down the economy isn't our ONLY response. We have the AZ/HCQ. It works.
People, please notice that the news (and we've fallen for this) have completely suppressed word about the cure. Where they do talk about it, they talk about it being used, and failing, as a 'last ditch' measure. It's supposed to be used AS SOON AS YOU ARE DIAGNOSED. If I choose to go to church (mine is shut down), AND I come down with the virus, I can be cured. I'll contribute to herd immunity. My plasma could be used to help others. As it stands, I'm quarantined and if I do get ill, I'm not sure the doctors in my state will listen to ME when I demand AZ/HCQ. And THAT is my ONLY real risk.

I too am in the high risk group and I completely agree with this author. Panic never solves anything.

Diabetic/heart patient here. 70 yrs old
America has more deaths from the flu than corona EVERY YEAR. Nobody freaks out and shuts down the economy for the flu. The corona is a bunch of crap.

I'm a Type 1 with high blood pressure and, as many on this site can attest, a severe case of prolixity.
I want America back.

FTA: “ It is helpful to remember that according to some reports, every person who dies after being diagnosed with coronavirus is counted as a death by Corona virus.”
My understanding is that the corpse is tested, and if testing positive it is added to the fatality count. Even with padded numbers and “tweaks” the models and experts have been wrong. And the hysteria continues. The American public again proves it’s general gullibility. We flattened a curve that would otherwise look like a flat line. And what has been spent and destroyed in this effort?

The numbers quoted for Georgia - 418 deaths (at least half of them a matter of routine course of events) vs. over 28,000 abortions should be an eye opener. We are a society gone astray, a culture gone horribly wrong!

Wish I could write like that. Bravo Mr. Leonard.
Time to tell the elites it's the people who run this government.

Agree with the author. I also live in Georgia. But, my governor and the CEO of my county have stated that if I don't Cower In Place I will be charged with a misdemeanor. If I get the WuHuFlu I could die in 24 hours. If I am carted off to the hoosegow I could die in 24 seconds due to the fact I would definitely be a minority in that facility. Or maybe not. Many prisoners charged with garden variety rape and murder are going to be released to make room for home escapees. For what it's worth I think this panic over the pandemic will end in July because Americans will put up with a lot but not no football.

I agree with some of the drastic measures in states like NY where the health system was in danger of being overwhelmed by the sheer number of cases. Here in my Georgia county of 100,000, we have 19 cases with three deaths. All three were elderly with severe underlying health problems. It’s ridiculous to use severe ‘shelter in place’ rules for every area. Let’s start opening this country back up. BTW, I am pushing 80 with moderate high BP. I am willing to take a chance using moderate measures to protect myself. As always, common sense seems to be extinct in the US these days.

From chainsaw logging to DOD contracting in 'The Zone' I've always done 'dangerous' work because it's easier to pay attention (ADD issue) and it pays better. But I'm old now and I find this same behavior appalling in my children.
Crazy....no ?
Here's the good news.........I just bought a buncha T.P. at the store.......no line....no problem.
Donald is right.
It's about over.

Thanks #7! - learned a new word (that I can be subject to as well!)
I recently became part of the "High Risk" crowd, I "celebrated" my 65th orbital anniversary a few weeks ago - alone (Did manage to score a nice chunk of Fillet Mignon and managed to BBQ it without ruining it) but plans of celebrating with my lady or any of us getting together are still weeks away.

Every one of us who has any high-risk factors (even we who have several) can make the effort to distance ourselves from others, in defense of our own health, to the degree we see most in keeping with our priorities in life. Telling the entire town / county / state / nation / world to distance themselves from each other is egregiously irrational, unjust, and not even guaranteed to be meaningfully more effective.

I am high risk and have to go out because I have no go fer. Begging for a day of silence. I need a rest. Will the talking jack holes in the media give it a rest? You feel okay and go to the 'essential' grocery store and feel like you are living in a communist country because the shelves have been empty for weeks. Surely, everybody in our county has toilet tissue by now.
