San Francisco now plans to lease 7,000 hotel rooms to provide shelter for homeless people as well as first responders and health care workers battling the spread of the coronovirus, city officials said Wednesday.
This would more than triple the rooms now under contract. The city already has committed $35 million for the next three months to lease the first batch of units. The overall effort would cost San Francisco roughly $105 million — some but not all of which would be reimbursed by the federal and state governments. (snip) homeless men and women eligible for hotel rooms would need to be COVID-19-positive or be classified as vulnerable because of age

I would say that I really feel sorry for the taxpayers of San Fornication, but I really don't.
They overwhelmingly keep voting for far-left politicians who are incapable of comprehending the most basic facts of economics!!! So they are basically getting exactly what they voted for!!!
Hey, I'm sure they won't mind paying the good Socialist 70% of their wages to pay for all these government programs!!!

Good luck on the hotels keeping their housekeeping staff,

I'd like to see a list of those hotels (I'd never stay in them) and it does cause one to speculate if there might be some unusual fires after the owners can't get the rooms back to habitability.

When this comes to an end, the operators of the hotel will have to burn the furnishings, including carpets and drapes.

So, any rules for those staying in these free no-tell motel rooms? Is drug use ok? All the booze they can bum? Prostitution? What if they trash a room; who pays? Who cleans the rooms? What if those in a room bring in all their friends, stay up until 3 every morning, singing, fighting and puking on the rugs? Who, if anyone, will police these shelters?
And what study or medical authority, exactly, did whoever came up with this use to determine that it's a good idea? I saw statistics showing the demographics of the virus in California and the one group with the fewest number of cases was.... tah dah, the homeless! Fresh air and sunshine may be much better than being cooped up in rooms.

So at some point if/when the city tries to shut down this program, the homeless advocates will file lawsuits and get judges to prevent their eviction, because this is California. Then what? And even if they eventually get them out, how much will it cost to refurbish them and get back paying customers? If I owned a hotel, I would offer to sell it to the city, not lease.

Infection rates among the homeless were disappointingly low. So, by moving them indoors, close together, they can be dispatched at a more agreeable clip. Clearing them off the streets may be a boon to the tourism and convention business...but where will they dare to stay, The Bumdorf, the Four Squeezins?

These hotels will have to be demolished, or SF can just keep paying for these leases. It would be heartless to turn their new guests out.

Those bums ruin everything they touch, including alleys and gutters. The damage they will do to those hotels will be irreparable.

Federal and State governments...aka...TAXPAYERS! Like others have asked, will we be stuck with paying for the extreme damage these scum will cause, too?

I bet the Four Seasons personnel are just jumping for joy. On the other hand, I'll bet the higher end hotels aren't even being considered.

Pi**ing away huge amounts of money. They should use it to build a permanent mental institution to put them in.

With all the panhandling bums, poop, urine and used needles in the streets, those hotel rooms are going unoccupied. Might as well make hospital rooms out of them.

For the amount of money they're spending, they could refurbish Alcatraz and make it a permanent homeless encampment.

Irony: If SF upheld vagrancy laws, all these fine, upstanding citizens would still get free room and board, in complete, secure safety, it'd just be called "jail" instead of "free hotel". In fact, "jail" would probably be a lot safer than "free hotel".

Please let the public know exactly what hotels are going to be used to house the homeless so they can be avoided. They'll more than likely crap on the carpet.

I can only imagine the cost to clean up and repair these 7,000 rooms after they are all out and gone. Nothing better than to completely destroy a perfectly good asset in the private sector. More government takeovers and control coming to another California city near you. Don't laugh because your state is next if it's run by democrats.

If municipalities are letting prisoners out, and nursing homes can become overrun with Covid19 where there is sanitization, what better way to eliminate the homeless problem then round them all up together and put them in close quarters? Are the restaurants going to feed them also?
