Americans would be smart to carry some lessons with them into the future after the nation’s coronavirus crisis is over, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci.
“One of them is absolute compulsive hand-washing,” Fauci, a member of President Trump’s Coronavirus Task Force, said Wednesday during a Wall Street Journal podcast.
“The other,” he added, “is you don't ever shake anybody's hands. I don't think we should ever shake hands ever again, to be honest with you.”

When I hear things like this, I'm reminded of all of the ballyhooing about the "Paperless Society", and being called a dinosaur for not jumping on that bandwagon. Frankly, I don't see much less paper today than there was then. Go have lunch with Hillary, Doc. Leave life to us, okay?

I wouldn't want to shake your hand(s) anyways but at breakfast on November 4th I'll be shaking many hands in celebration!
By New Years 2021, we will be back to normal and have forgotten about you but we will always fondly remember Dr Birx......
BTW: Why don't you ask your friends at the WHO for a job? Maybe you could replace their Chinese Centric Leader POS they now have! I bet that our POTUS would write a letter of recommendation for you......

Hey Doc...no! I’m a free American and I’m NOT giving my freedom up to a tiny little scared rat like you! Crawl back into your hole!

i agree with Dr. Fauci, mostly. Most handshaking is unnecessary - before women's 'lib' handshaking between women was rare as handshaking between men and women. It was, after all, associated with peace.
and I have always been offended when on a visit to any physician, he or she tries to shake hands with me. That is really stupid. who knows where those physicians' hands have been?? and hand slapping, and other forms of dapping, which have flowed from the Black subculture? Get rid of those things. (The first incident of handslapping I can recall, is from the brilliant Black movie, Cabin In The Sky, when a character who calls himself Shine, because of his shiny skin, does a song and dance routine that is really brilliant, and slaps hands with others. but that was 1943. Now everybody on every game show has to hand slap, high five, hug, scream, and the like. Just stop it.
But most offensive to me is this whole stupid 'selfies' compulsion, especially with strangers. Cheek to cheek photos? Stupid. And it slows down the political process excessively. Save the cheek to cheek for boyfriend/girlfriend.
how about hugging? Way too much of that fake celebrity behavior. Save it for family. and football players hugging football players? Stupid. Same with golfers, basketball players, and Jo biden and most anyone.
This has been my Larry David moment, without the political hatred. I feel better for it.

Okay little man (Dr. Fauci). lead by example. For the remaining time you have on earth you are to be confined to your home, you can only leave for essentials, you can not have physical contact with another human, you must always social distance. I get the feeling that there is more to your advice and it was not professional. I also believe that you wanted to see President Trump fail.

On this I agree with Fauci. Maybe I'm a bit too Adrian Monk-like but I don't like to shake anyone's hand. I especially dislike the "handshake of peace" at church. For years I've opt for a smile and friendly (I hope it's friendly) nod of my head rather than shaking hands.

I guess I am going to be the odd man out, but I like shaking hands. I also like hugging close friends and family. Maybe it is because I just think human touch is a good thing germs and all. We are pulling back from any kind of human contact and that just seems weird to me. We have been greeting each other with a handshake for hundreds of years even when sanitation was not nearly up to today’s standards. It would be a shame to stop this small physical contact as a form of greeting because of this virus. We survived other pandemics and still shook hands afterwards. I just think we are over-reacting. This anxiety will eventually pass and I hope we can go back to normal. Who wants to live in a world where we are so anxiety laden that the thought of a simple handshake is physical threat. Let’s just all take a breath and realize that this too shall pass.

Completely agree, #8. I think this is just one more way for the left to isolate us and make us more compliant. I also think they are trying to breed mistrust between us.
My church stopped the sign of peace handshake during the H1N1 but brought it back when the risk was over. I hope they will do the same this time.

"To be honest with you," is a very revealing statement. Does that mean there are things you're not being honest about? This guy has an agenda. Actually he has several agendas that are working against the best interests of this Country and ALL of its citizens.

There. Solved that.

I saw Fauci's picture on another thread; looks like he is either ON something or missing something. His virtue signaling about our cordiality is something he should shove some place dark and tight.

God gave us immune systems and brains, they need practice. Stop living in fear and stop letting some increasingly wrong, weasel-faced bureaucrat tell you how to live your live.
Where the hell have all of the American gone? Because when I’m out, I’m coming across a whole lot of paranoid and unfriendly foreigners who resemble Americans, but are dressed like sneering bank robbers and are behaving like everything is radioactive.

Fauci is giving doctors a worse reputation than they already have. If I had Fauci for a doctor, I would likely find a new one. "To be honest", Dr. Fauci? Does that mean you are not always honest? Don't think anyone should trust this guy.
This is what you get when doctors are in charge. Trump has deferred to his medical task force regarding corona virus, but its looking more and more that he needs to be the one calling the shots and not the doctors.

People now draw back 6 feet from me, and look at me like I am a contagion. Most of those approaching were solicitors, and confidence men, so it may work out. Now those that have been mugging us, and striking us on the back of the head, will have to do a robocall. Before, the angry and ill humored would try to take all the space, when approaching on a sidewalk, now they pull away and give me room. Nice.

Shaking hands is silly, unnecessary, and unsanitary. A nod of the head is sufficient.

Hugs instead, right Dr. Fauci?
Come on! People were built/created for relationship (to mirror the Creator's relationship with us). I'd like to hug all those out there right now who have lost loved ones and will never again be able to shake hands with or hug those souls they've lost. Mothers who are having to say a short "farewell" to their newborns because the mothers must be quarantined in case they've been exposed; and the fathers who can't be there when their little ones are born because they've been banished during this precious time. Yea, we've handled this relationship thing real well during the "virus" catastrophe.
The world has recovered after many pandemics and gone back to the physical touch and closeness thing over millennia. Good riddance to Dr. Fauci's Orwellian tactic. I'm gonna hug and shake hands and love on people after this because that's how I was, you were created.

Wouldn't hazmat suits be a better precaution doctor? A stupid overreaction and WHY timid bureaucrats must not be left in charge. During the height of flu season we elbow bump, a smart precaution. Beyond that, handshakes. The next likely pandemic, we can go back to social distancing but for now we shouldn't be working to crush the human spirit.

I was starting a side fist bump trend before this started and it was difficult to avoid the usual hand grab. I got fed up with people intentionally proving something with a firm handshake. I'm a big guy for most people and they often feel compelled to show me grip strength or something. As an old artist with arthritis in both hands, I'm out. No problem with a hug for people who deserve it, but I'm done with the handshake and people can conclude what they want from that.

I bet we start shaking hands even more. It will be a way to signal you're not a sensitive soy eater and it's ok to tell a joke.
