Sen. Chuck Schumer is calling for up to $25,000 in “heroes” pay for front-line health care and service industry workers as Congress pushes ahead with a new coronavirus crisis rescue package. “This is a heroes’ fund and they deserve it,” the New York Democrat said Tuesday. The Senate minority leader declared the emerging proposal the “highest priority” for Democrats as congressional leaders and President Trump call for more aid for Americans. Nurses, truck drivers, grocery store clerks and others are “risking their lives” to care for Americans amid the COVID-19 pandemic and economic shutdown, he said.

Those upchuck mentions are certainly deserving of something more than the usual, but perhaps time and a half or even double time would suffice. That might actually add up to $25,000 in the end for some but certainly not for all unless this thing goes on for a longer time than we hope or fear.

Schumer , not being relevant, gets his name in the news as a " hero" to the common man ( and woman).

They would be better off, in the case of Nurses, BSNs, RNs, and LPNs, to simply cancel their federal student loans, as those loans hang over the heads of most nurses for decades. Then a lot of them would have the money out of their earnings to be able to purchase homes and new cars. The reason I suggest that is that I know a BSN who has been working as a nurse for many years and still has student loan payments. Without those federal student loans she never would have been able to go to nursing school and graduate second in her class. I last heard from her last week when she was doing corona virus testing.
I’m sure that the other critical jobs and professions are just as deserving.

As a near-min wage grocery essential working, a big fat bonus from Uncle Sam would be ever so helpful. But a continuing disaster for the payback to come. For the sake of our nation's future - please stop waving your checks in our faces. Have help at the ready when we workers TRULY need it. I am honored to be able to go to work each day yet - masked and gloved, and it is my mission to maintain a joyful attitude. Lots of my customers just want a slice of normal - and most have the best all-American We Can Do This attitude. We are not asking for 'heros pay'. Knock it off, Chuck.

Claw back the $100 million Pelosi raced back from San Fran to stuff into the emergency economic rescue bill.
I do think doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and nurses and support staff, people who kept those heroes supplied, safe and fed deserve
something akin to "hazard pay". BUT, claw back the $100 million Nancy demanded for her pals in "the arts". IMMEDIATELY
Do you think Chuckie will agree?

No, no, and f no. You just got TWO TRILLION bucks a couple of weeks ago, Schumer. Drafting another "rescue" package when you've barely had time to spend any of that not only shows reckless disregard for other the taxpayers, but stands in bad taste to an epic degree. Not even the greediest despot in history could have such an insatiable appetite for money.

"Never let a good crisis go to waste." Everyone and their brother will be claiming they are a hero in this coronavirus pandemic. That means everyone who works in a supermarket. The family of a Walmart worker is going to sue for "wrongful death". Their lawyer will claim that the victim was a hero. After this is over--and maybe it never will be, maybe it's just the beginning--this country could be in socialist shambles. Maybe Schumer himself will claim he's a hero and ask for a raise, after all, he hasn't sweat this hard since Trump became president.

Democrats are famous for proposing things they know will never pass the other house or will be vetoed. Daddy wants you to have ice cream and cake every day, but mean old mommy says you have to eat your vegetables instead.

Who is going to pay for this? Chuck U spending other peoples money. Where do you stop? If the cashier at the supermarket get $25 K, how about the kid bagging the groceries or the person wiping down the grocery cart or the person loading the shelf and on and on and on, Then there is the mailman, UPS, Fed Ex drivers. Then what about the truck drivers and the Amazon employees - and you haven’t got to the nurses, nurses aids, people cleaning the hospital, pharmacists, respiratory technicians, PT’s, dietary people bringing food to the rooms., and and the phlebotomist and on and on and on.... There is not enough money on the planet for the money Democrats want to spend- and I mean this with no disrespect to any people noted above.

First off, the word 'hero' is overused/ worked. Secondly, the military that keeps a SOB/POS like Schmuckie in a country where he can freely make an azz of himself are treated like dirt by the jackass party. It's sure easy to spend OPM, isn't it?

Maybe that could help their employers to cover the massive overtime all of these workers are earning.
Don't forget, it's all taxable too, folks.
Schumer likely wants only Democrats to personally deliver each check so they all look to a Dem in November - it would be more like a payoff.

The doctors and nurses are very busy right in the NYC area and other densely populated areas. Yes, they are working at greater risk than normal. HOWEVER (I will probably eviscerated by some for saying this): The media sensationalizes much of what is going on in these hospitals. While busy, there is always the weepy nurse all too willing to go on camera saying how bad it is. Are they running around like its 9/11 or are they busy checking on a lot of sick people and can't sit at the nurses station. BUT, little coverage is being given to the empty field hospitals that were set up. The call for a zillion respirators were for what would have been needed in the worst case scenario. This has now been show to be far from an accurate prediction.

Write the check Chuck. You’ve got the money. Oh i see you want the federal government to just print it then pay it. Will it make you feel good to do this? You would feel a lot better if you just went home and had happy hour in your bedroom with a handle of vodka and a big glass of ice.

Im considered an essential employee, employeed by an "essential" company.
My reward for not missing a day of work since this started is a PAYCHECK.
First responders, nurses, doctors etc choose their fields KNOWING the risks. Thats why they earn significantly more than the average person
Hey chuckie....... how about a 25K bonus for active duty personnel????

Republicans in Congress, read these bills introduced by DemocRATS very carefully. Just when we're at our most vulnerable, I wouldn't put it past Schumer or any of the "American haters" to slip in a big pay raise for themselves. It makes my stomach churn every time I think of Pelosi using the virus stimulus bill to fund an insane endowment to the Lincoln Center.
