In a bigoted effort to mislead its readers and demonize the American South, the far-left New York Times on Thursday manufactured a wildly misleading coronavirus map.
Using a desperately sweaty piece of reverse-engineering to make Southerners (and I’m a proud one, Yeeehaawwww) look as irresponsible as possible, the Times — a fake news outlet that hires racists, spreads deliberate misinformation, and has already smeared Christians as the cause of a coronavirus outbreak that’s currently hitting mostly secular, urban areas like New York — published a steaming pile of fake news.
“Where America Didn’t Stay Home Even as the Virus Spread” is the name of the piece

In the rural South you get in your car or truck and trek to a grocers more than 2 miles away.
BUT 2 miles was the Slimes' limit to breaking social distancing.
Actually, you are more isolated in the vehicle than a New Yorker wandering around on foot or in a subway.
Sorry, NYTimes, you lose.

The vast majority of Corona cases are in cities with large international airports. If they had just shut down all flights, they could have had a handle on this months ago.

#5 is ever so right. Just take a look at this map....and click on the states. https://datawrapper.dwcdn.net/JiVbH/66/ And the entire mid-portion of the country has to be treated the same way as these hot spots?

NY state has 20 million people. Kansas has under 3 million people. NY state has 3565 deaths from Wuhan flu. Kansas has 21 deaths in the whole state. I live in the most populous county in Kansas, we have about 45 people hospitalized with this flu, I think we have had 4 deaths in the county, maybe 5.
NY state has 6.8 times our population, and 169 times the number of Wuhan flu deaths. Tell me again how rural areas are more dangerous NYT.

Of course they do, anything to distract from their most-telling statistic, NY having the largest number of infected people. Why not just quarantine the City?

Oh, and New Yorkers riding the subways, going down to the port to see ships come in and partying in China Town wasn't a problem?

I agree with Nolte, especially with the last sentence. If we are so bad in the South, why are they fleeing NY to come here?

I live in a rural county in Ohio (population about 75,000). My drive to the nearest supermarket is 13.5 miles. The same goes for the pharmacy, my doctor and pretty close to that for gasoline. The people in the county are doing what they are being told. When I do have to get groceries, the store has an employee stationed by the carts disinfecting them as they are returned, the check out has sneeze barriers and there are hand wipes all over the store. People keep a safe distance from each other and are very courteous. As of last time I checked we had 9 cases in the county and the majority are in nursing homes. I love it here!!

Unfortunately, #14 that was attempted about 150 years ago. The outcome was the consolidation of political power to Washington, DC. But, should the South rise again, you can count me in. The Yankees of the northeast have done nothing to support the vision of our founding fathers who fought their way our of tyranny during the 1770's.

The only southern city that is even a fraction as bad as New York City is New Orleans, which is a port city with stupid democrat leadership. The rest of the south is much safer than the city of the Times!

Life is really almost normal here in rural Louisiana, except for the national chains, which saddle us with the one size fits all rules. It's 8 miles to town, about 10 minutes on a bad day. The shelves are stocked and after the initial burst in early March, no one is hoarding. The stores ask that you limit your bread and TP purchases, but most have been purchasing just what they need, when they need it. Since the churches are closed, and large gathering are shut down, there's no need to go to town, so we are quarantined by distance. I wonder what these betters in NY are going to do, when the existing canned goods and frozen foods are gone from the market shelves. I worked in the petroleum industry for 33 years and we weren't allowed to expand or explore in the 'beautiful' North East, so most of their fuel comes from the South and middle America. When I was in the service, it was predominantly Southern. The truth is, NY yankees (not the team) are really a bunch of weenies to be laughed at. Their contribution to America is to write useless articles denigrating everyone that doesn't think or act like them. Most of us down here don't really pay them much mind. For me, I wish all these Northern , know-it-all liberals would stay up North and not ruin our lives down here. Today I will probably talk to my neighbors, who are all a city block or more away, smoke some ribs, have a few drinks and think about how much better life is here than it is in that sardine packed hell-hole called New York.

The New York Slimes is schizophrenic. Their own reporting shows that 50% of the deaths have occurred in New York (the metro area) and the percentages in the West, the South and the Midwest don't even come close to New York"s. What loons

New Yorkers are probably going to spread the virus to everybody who lives there who is not completely shut in. If there is a "spike" anywhere in a rural area it will most certainly be caused by infected city people traveling there to escape their city. In my area we instinctively avoid gas stations and businesses open along the Interstate and shop at establishments on the secondary roads. It's working well so far.

The biggest spike in the Chinese flu in Florida occurred in Miami/Dade and Broward counties. Where did all the Noo Yawkers flee to when their hell-hole became ground zero for the flu? Miami/Dade and Broward counties. Thanks, Noo Yawkers.

I believe a bit of qualification is in order. Let us separate most of NY State from NY city. Get away from densely populated NYC area and you will find reasonably sane people.

Well then. I suppose the NY Times would not be against having President Trump send the lion's share of money, masks, and ventilators to the South. It appears that California and New York don't have much need!

The demonization of the South has been going on for more than a century. We have grown weary of it. I have been denied jobs because of the anti-Southern prejudice prevalent throughout most of the country. The two coasts have added in the demonization of middle America as well. It is now the two coasts against everyone else in the middle. Trump represents the middle.

WTF difference does it make how far you drive, if you are in a vehicle? The question is, what places are you going, and what measures are they taking at your destination? The business restrictions in South Florida are no different than elsewhere, and the shoppers in the Fort Myers Publix were and are no less safety-conscious than those in any NYC bodega. And likely a hell of a lot more friendly.
Every time I think the NYT has sunk as low as possible, they surpass my lowest expectations yet again.

The New York Slimes can bite my fluffy butt with their fake news!! I live on the Florida Beach Coast, and I still have to travel more than two miles for Walmart, Costco, my pharmacy, my doctor's office and the post office. The cheapest gas in the area is also more than two miles away and I refuse to pay more than I need to simply because the commie times feels the need to dictate my life. Leftists suck, bossy leftists suck more and bossy leftist propaganda rags suck the most and I refuse to bow down before ANY of them!!
