Romney warns Trump: Don't interfere
with coronavirus relief oversight

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Friday released a letter with Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) calling on President Trump to comply with the oversight requirements Congress attached to the $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief package signed into law last week. “With trillions of taxpayer dollars being spent, it is critically important for the Administration to ensure full transparency and willingness for independent oversight,” Romney and Tester wrote in the April 3 letter to Trump.

Rummey is a loser who can't seem to stop himself from frequently proving it. The least thing that matters right now is bureaucratic congressional oversight. In the end, what congress does for oversight will matter NOT AT ALL. Yet, that is where Rummey wants to focus. Not on smart words about dealing with the Chinese virus. Not clever ways to recover economically. Nope, the bureaucracy is what attracts Rummey. Let's be clear, the biggest things we are struggling with is BUREAUCRATIC failure. Not enough supplies planned for. Supplies we do have being outdated and unusable. Not enough hospital space. Not enough ventilators. Not enough emergency plans. Plans that focus on death panels to select the ones to die instead of providing care to keep them alive (NY). Failed and echo chamber agencies that screw up testing (CDC). Slow to respond in a crisis agencies (FDA). Silo thinking that can't recognize that economic collapse is significantly damaging PEOPLE with potential for more collective damage that the virus could ever do. No, the bureaucracy is NOT our friend and neither is Rummey.

I don’t recall having ever seen a request for any oversight of spending that comes from Washington! Why now? There is an interesting principle in the book of Nehemiah in the Bible. Nehemiah was trying to get a work done, and could not understand why there was so much opposition and delay. Then he realized that the “nobles” of Israel were intermingled and intermarried with the enemy. The more things change, the more they stay the same!

Trump can hit a home run with
coronavirus home testing

Ordinary people have been doing extraordinary things these days, but the federal government keeps underperforming. The government's failure to make COVID-19 tests widely available is a prime example. Despite broad consensus on the need for COVID-19 testing, the number of those tested is far behind where it should be. It’s time for something bold. President Trump needs to invoke the Defense Production Act to get large, capable companies to develop, manufacture, and widely distribute COVID-19 tests. Home tests, produced with consistent high quality, can augment existing testing approaches, enabling people to test without leaving home.

President Donald Trump is claiming without evidence that expanding mail-in voting will increase voter fraud. But several GOP state officials are forging ahead to do just that, undermining one of Trump’s arguments about how elections should be conducted amid the coronavirus outbreak. While Trump has complained that voting by mail is “ripe for fraud,” Republican state officials in Iowa, Ohio and West Virginia have all taken steps to ease access to mail-in ballots, following health officials’ warnings that voting in person can risk transmission of the deadly virus. The Nebraska’s Republican governor urged voters to apply for absentee ballots.

In a few small ways, Pope Francis is a traditionalist. He opposes abortion, gay marriage (although he supports gay civil unions), and the notion of infinite genders. In most other ways, though, the Pope constantly demonstrates that he emerged from a Marxist background. Despite being the Catholic Church’s preeminent man of God, he has a Gaia-centric view of nature. He also brings a Marxist’s understanding of economics (i.e., simplistic and wrong) to the papacy. That’s why, on Wednesday, the Pope suggested that COVID-19 is the earth’s revenge for climate change and then implied that politicians concerned about the economy are akin to Hitler in 1933

In A. A. Milne’s classic Winne-the-Pooh children’s tales, Eeyore, the old gray donkey, is perennially pessimistic and gloomy. He always expects the worst to happen. Milne understood that Eeyore’s outbursts of depression could at first be salutatory but then become monotonous. The outlook of the pessimist (“if you think it’s bad now, just wait”) always enjoys advantages over both the realist (“so what, life goes on”) and the optimist (“oh, come on, it can’t be that bad”).

Unfortunately, Friedman’s opening pitch sounds a bit more like a bipartisan, mutual self-protection scheme than a plea for genuine unity:

Here’s a video people being physically removed from their homes to be put into quarantine. The footage is a chilling scene from communist China. Think it can’t happen here? Nancy Pelosi in the California primary last month, that included the line “Time to #FireFauci:”
