With more than 8,000 cases of the coronavirus in the state, Pennsylvania's governor is calling on citizens to use a mask to cover their faces when they leave home.
Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf instructed citizens during a Friday news conference to use cloth masks to cover their faces and pleaded with residents to save powerful N95 masks for healthcare workers as hospitals struggle with medical shortages.“Two days ago, I amplified our social distancing efforts by instituting a statewide stay-at-home order, and today I am asking all Pennsylvanians to wear a mask any time they leave their houses,” Wolf said. “Masks help prevent people from sharing illnesses.

Where do you get a mask? Has this been thought out? Guess I can wear a scarf.

Of all things that we've been asked to do, this one chaps me the most. We were told that the mask that just covered the face were useless. You needed the expensive mask. Two months in and they tells us we should wear a mask. Where do you find a mask now a days?
I see people with bandanas and scarfs around people's faces thinking that their ''safe''.

The article does not make clear if this is a law or a suggestion. Regardless it will be widely ignored because it is a stupid idea except in situations where you are in close contact with others.

Stay at home order. Wear a mask when you leave your home order. I'm confused.

I cannot name a single governor in the 50 states (57 if you're a Dem), PA included, who is not a nincompoop. They have all caved to the howling hysteria mob in the streets. Every one. We are on our own.

I've been making face masks for my church. It's hard to exhale with the mouth and nose covered no matter what the mask is.

Trump said today that's its "voluntary" and you don't have to do it, I'm going to follow his advice. Wolf can pound sand.

#5 there are a few. Today I heard Rush name Nebraska, Missouri the Dakotas and Iowa I think, that haven't succumbed to panic. Wolf in PA is the most draconian moron. DeSantis in FL is doing all he can to not take away the rights of clear counties, but he he being attacked.

#8 is correct. Follow what POTUS says. All these nimrod governors who keep trying to strip us of our Constitutional freedoms can go take a flying leap.

My wife made our masks when she was making masks for my respiratory tech. daughter in law and a niece who is a nurse at a major hospital near NO. They are better than nothing. Anyone that spent time in the Far East, which I did in the early to mid 60's knows that the Japanese wear them during cold and flu season.
I stay at home as much as I can, but sometimes you need to go out for necessities, like bread and milk. I only wear it when I'm in close proximity to other people. I choose to wear the mask, if it will let me hug my grand-daughters sometime in the near future. You can wash the cloth masks to kill any virus and if you're not running a marathon, you can breath through them. It beats breathing with a ventilator in a hospital room by yourself.

I'm out and about pretty much every day, "sheltering in place" -- my truck is a big part of my place -- windows up, AC on; I take my dog to the park for his morning business meeting and then we drive around listening to Rush.
I'm watching nervous-eyed panic pigeons fluttering about in masks that are great if you're sanding wood or trimming trees.
People who don't know much will do anything if it makes them feel better.
A scarf or 99-cent store paper mask might slow you from sharing it but they won't stop you from acquiring.

Most are advising to wear to grocery store, pharmacy. Any place where one might be in closer quarters than the recommended 6 foot “social distancing”. In some cities, the sidewalks would have been crowded. Not so sure now...

I agree with #13. Quarantine if ill is nasty business. The ICU on a ventilator is far worse. We can huff and puff around, but those of us who are aware of the alternative will start wearing a mask for some things. The reason for the mask recommendation? It is appearing that asymptomatic persons (I assume you know what that means) are spreading the virus. They don’t know they have it. Could be one of us… or the guy standing next to us...

I heard today that some twiddly little politician here says anyone over 60 has to stay home. Ha! I'm over 70 and no one has told me to stay home since I was 5. If I want to get out, I will. That usually just involves riding around a bit and hitting McDonalds for their $1 diet coke but hey, I consider that my exercise for the day.

Hey, #18, I'm glad to hear you're doing okay. I now work all day from home, but I make a once-daily trip out for groceries and the obligatory McDonald's drive-thru for Diet Coke. Second, where is McDonalds selling Diet Cokes for $1? They're $5.55 Canadian here? (And it was -4 F° two days ago).

Stupid order, or "suggestion." What's the viability range of the virus? Is it more than social distancing of six feet? Has it been weaponized? Is someone spraying the aerosol overhead? To make these "suggestions" officials have to reveal more than they're telling us. If it's that bad, hell, just start handing out NBC protective masks and make sure to set up stations where we can rotate our filters.
