This article is not going where you think it is. As most of my American Spectator readers know, don’t even try to guess where this is going. Just come along for the ride. (In a way, it is like the letter of recommendation that an army colonel once received when being considered for a promotion: “His men would follow him anywhere — but only out of curiosity!”)
We all know about Roe versus Wade, that famous argument over which is the better way to get across a lake. I personally am pro-life and hope to see that tenuous court decision overturned someday. But here is what gets me about abortion

FTA "no woman goes to bed with the decision: “I am really in the mood to have an abortion, so I think I will go and get myself pregnant tonight.”" I am not so sure about that. "No woman" is very absolute, I believe there are a few women who have this thought.

Surely I am not the first to tell you, Rabbi Fischer, that the only problem with common sense is that it isn’t.

Great article and fantastic point. PC culture disallows us to call out people's stupid, idiotic behavior for what it is. The irrational notion of absolute equality precludes us from using shame and ridicule as tools to prevent the madness. Most people are idiots but we all have to pretend otherwise. Doing so is driving our culture insane.

I disagree with the reasons this writer gives for why people have abortions. They aren't being lazy or stupid. They're trying to eliminate their sin (and guilt) as if it never happened.

Rabbi Fischer may be glossing over one element that throws shade on his comparison. A normal female has a deeply ingrained biological imperative to reproduce - a willful urge to become pregnant. A failure to use birth control is simply a compliance with nature - not an act of foolishness, ignorance or stupidity. It is only after becoming pregnant that social pressure and fear result in the decision to abort.
The irony is that using birth control is an act of rebellion against our God-given biological imperative, whereas aborting is an act of rebellion against having submitted to our God-given biological imperative.

He forgot to address Liberal woman’s argument that they have to PAY for birth control and that’s not fair. It should be free!

Very well-written article and I agree with the premise that no woman wants an abortion. Our schools and society do an excellent job of convincing young women that their rights over their bodies are more important than anything else. Even if Roe is overturned, putting that genie back in the bottle may prove impossible. Same goes with the virus--there are always going to be some who refuse to comply with guidelines about social distancing (look at the backlash on KY mayors for taking down public basketball hoops). Go figure.

Bottom line - abortion is the most selfish irresponsible action a human can take. Second on the list is not taking precautions before sex. But the left thrives on self-absorption and irresponsibility. Hence the abortion rate and the welfare state which both empower the left via votes and kickbacks. And now the virus.

Isn't it funny how the left views the daily murder of the unborn with such a ho hum no worry/no hurry attitude while at the same time, it views possible deaths from a virus with total hysteria. Such is leftism. It has to be a mental disorder. Nothing else can explain such irrational behavior.

Best rant I have heard in a long time. The point is that a very large portion of our population are ignorant morons. Be a man on the street and see how many Americans do not know who is Vice President or know the difference between The House and The Senate or even who the Governor of their own state is let along any of the Supreme Court Justices. And if anything, the problem is worse on college campuses. These kids don't even know how to balance a check book. I could go on but, I will save you all from it.

The writer obviously doesn't speak often to older women. We older women ask this question all the time. In the old days, and I'm talking about as late as the swingin' sixties and early seventies, women didn't just waltz into their doctor's office and ask for birth control and having babies out of wedlock was not chic. There was real and heart wrenching shame attached to both the woman and child. So the fledgling woman's movement pushed abortion. Today, there are many safe and reliable birth control methods available to women and having children without the sanctity of marriage has become tres chic. So, I agree, why the need for abortion? I think part of the answer is that because abortion is such a cause celeb, many women use it as a means of birth control despite denials to the contrary.
That said, Mr. Fischer, have you ever seen how hard window washers work? Especially the guys sitting on rigs hanging off 60 story buildings. Your gratuitous swipe at hard working, everyday people was totally unnecessary and to use the President's new term, snarky. I'm sick to death of so-called better educated people looking down on real people. It's gotta stop.

I think #5 & 8 are the most insightful about Rabbi Fischer's point. Cultural Marxism became the Western alternative to hard-core political Communism that was being instinctively rejected in the USA and western Europe. No one can deny the reality of the effects on our culture from the "long march through the institutions" that has hobbled and negated the human need for God. It replaced knowledge of the spiritual aspects of human life with "science" and elevated "humanism" over the Divine Natural Law.
#5's conclusion is worth repeating, "The irony is that using birth control is an act of rebellion against our God-given biological imperative, whereas aborting is an act of rebellion against having submitted to our God-given biological imperative." The Humanist tell us that we are gods, but when we do not accept God's Plan, we suffer the just consequences of choosing to be outside of His Love. When souls are separated from Him, the pain can only be dulled by a full rejection of All Things God. Which in turn leads only to more pain, more sin and moving farther away from his Grace. Evil leads to insanity and insane behavior leads to more insanity. The business model of Satan and the DNC. Ever notice those initials are so reminiscent of the medical term for abortion; D and C?

I think #5 & 8 are the closest to Rabbi Fischer's point. Cultural Marxism was the response to the fact that political Communism was being rejected in America and Western Europe. No one can deny the effect on our culture by the "long march through the institutions" of the radical Left. The "humanists" have replaced the Divine and Natural Law with evil and man's machinations.
#5's conclusion deserves repeating; "The irony is that using birth control is an act of rebellion against our God-given biological imperative, whereas aborting is an act of rebellion against having submitted to our God-given biological imperative." I've always been struck by how reminiscent "DNC" is to a medical term for abortion, "D and C".

So, leftists have made women the largest group of murderers worldwide. Rush shared that from Jan-March of this year, over 9 million babies were murdered in the womb. That's a pandemic, for real.
