Pressure is mounting for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to return $25 million it received from the massive federal coronavirus bailout package signed into law last week after its president was heard on leaked audio telling staffers their jobs would still be lost.
And one lawmaker has even introduced a bill to have the funds rescinded.
The audio, recorded during an internal conference call with staff, revealed how executives at the Washington, DC arts icon lobbied lawmakers for the massive handout from the $2 trillion national aid package — but then furloughed more than 700 staffers.
Wisconsin GOP Rep. Bryan Steil introduced a bill to rescind the $25 million in funding,

Great idea. But once Nancy and the RATS get their hands on the bill, it will add $50 million so the Kennedy Center can layoff another 1400 people and add $500 billion of other goodies for RAT pet projects.

I keep hoping those of us who work and pay IN IN IN will finally get weary of the financial rape and abuse and REVOLT against those who distribute our labors. In this time of OUR need they waddle up to the trough as usual and expect our dollars to feed themselves first and foremost. Nancy doesn't give a smooth bowel movement about us or the musicians at KenCen. Yet SHE ladles out the best stew for her favorites, knowing the kickback is on the other side. Her constituents will NEVER kick her sorry arse to the curbside. How can I, American citizen , worker, taxpayer - make EVERYTHING Pelosy and company demand - be diminished? Obliterated? I am seething.

Yes, wrt to the porkulus bill, it's a drop in the bucket, but the bucket is filled with drops. And, I'm sure it's significant to the Kennedy Center. Deleterious actions should have painful consequences. But, good luck getting the bill passed in the House!

I'd love to see their list of donors and the amounts that are given. "Artists" of the showbiz kind like the big name Hollywood crowd make millions of dollars. Are they as generous with their own money when it comes to funding the promotion of others not quite as famous? Do they give so that the center can do free programs for those who aspire but might not have the funds for training/lessons? I'm sure that some contribute but do the ones who insist that the "little people" not address them directly or demand that a gardenia is always floating in the toilet bowl really put their money where their big fat commie mouths are?

Good, but the bad news is the bill would never get out of the House at least when it's ruled by degenerate demonrats. They love to spend other people's money on waste rather than their own money. Hey Nancy, why don't you pony up your own $25M from your $100M you've already siphoned off the USA?

Let's see how many Repubs vote for it. Mitch will probably never let it get to the light of day in the Senate.

This is not only about the money, it is about the lack of character, truthfulness and malevolence of the democrat party to fund their pet projects on the backs of dying Americans.

The Kennedy Center shouldn't have gotten $25,000,000 (in addition to what they've already received) of our tax money regardless of the staffing issue. Why is our money going to support performances for the wealthy elite in Washington? What else is in that package of pork?

Why the heck are American taxpayers subsidizing this anyway? How many average Americans will ever go there. When they came up with the idea of the Kennedy Center, they told us it would be funded by donations, no one ever said Americans would be on the hook for it.

The Kennedy Center has an Endowment Fund of around $100,000,000.00. Maybe some of the money, interest, or dividends from the endowment will pay the employees. The Director's super high salary should also be looked at.
