At least five rabbis from Lakewood have died after contracting coronavirus, with Rabbi Michoel Tzvi Fettman, 39, and the father of nine, the most recent to succumb to the viral epidemic that has so far killed nearly 200 people in New Jersey. Fettman died on Monday, according to the Lakewood Scoop.
The Jerusalem Post reported 44 rabbis outside of Israel have died so far as a result of coronavirus, most of them in the New York City metropolitan area. The majority came from the Orthodox community.
They included Lakewood residents Avrohom Eliezer Gordon, a rabbi for nearly 50 years at Yeshiva Bais Dovid

This is going on among the Hasidic Jews. What are the police suppose to do? Arrest? 24/7 patrols? I dont know. Any ideas ? P.S. I am Jewish and live in south Jersey.

I couldn't read the article because, no, I will not disable my ad blocker. But to answer #1's questions, here's a thought: How about we make sure everyone in the community is aware of the dangers of CV-19 and then let them decide for themselves how they want to act?
P.S. Why do we think "gooberment" needs to rush in and save everyone all the time?

Seriously? Five rabbis and Fredo contract coronavirus and the homeless are unaffected? Honestly, I just don't get this virus? Someone needs to explain to me how a community who lives in boxes, sleeps in their own excrement, shares needles, shares food, shares bottles, can't possibly have the best of immune systems, doesn't bathe, are not known for social distancing, are immune to this virus. My original standard for gauging how bad and this virus was is what it would do to the homeless community. I said when it hit the US that if it does not ravage these poor people then it cant possibly be that bad. And don't tell me the media just isn't reporting it, because the media would be all over it blaming Trump for the tragedy. Hopefully the homeless stay immune but if so we all may need to change our hand washing ways.

I'm kinda with #2 in that how are they being notified? These are a group of people who don't regularly use TV or the internet. Does NJ have a plan to physically notify them?

I’m Jewish, Orthodox, and nominally Hasidic due to marriage into a Hasidic family.
Can’t say I am a huge fan of this particular group of Hasids. Generally speaking, they are anti-Zionist and no friend of Israel where most of my family lives. They believe modern Israel should not exist, as restoration is to be solely the work of the Mosiach. I respectfully disagree.
Anyway, a fair number are our equivalent of the Westboro Baptist’s. Not all. But plenty.

# 4 They all communicate. They all have cell phones. The head rabbi in Monsey NY told them not to be in groups. Result, they have not listened. Monsey and Spring Valley have the most cases and its primarily the Hasidic Jews . As for doing what you want, we have been asked to comply , most have, willingly or not. No group of people is above any other group.

Let's look at the positive side of the story. No female rabbi died, because the Orthodox faith does not allow women to be rabbis, right?

Teaneck in Bergen County has the highest number of diagnosed cases in the county as of a few days ago. It is Orthodox but not especially Hasidic. You have to wonder, with such a young rabbi dying, if there is a genetic predisposition as a factor. This should be examined along with multiple chronic conditions, medications like ACE inhibitors, chemical exposure, preexisting lung damage, etc. I hope this research will objectively be done.

Police in Lakewood keep breaking up "gatherings" and the locals keep ignoring the rules, and as a result, relatively small Lakewood by far leads NJ in the number of Chinavirus cases. People kept their house lights off at night or drew their curtains tight to obscure areas from enemy bombers during WW2, but today we're too stubborn or spoiled to keep to ourselves for a couple of weeks and let the virus expire, for the greater good.
