New York Mayor Bill deBlasio is officially attempting to establish himself as the United States first totalitarian dictator by announcing a revocation of all New York City citizen rights under the first amendment. A stunning move.
“[Government] shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for(Snip)
In a stunning announcement Mayor deBlasio threatens that all religious services will be forcibly closed by city authorities “permanently” if they do not comply with the established dictates of city government.

Queue a chorus of The Internationale? How about a round of Deutschand uber alles? Maybe organizing a night of smashing the windows of religious buildings?

This WHY we have and need the 2nd Amendment - to counter King George De-fuhrer-Blasio and his Brownshirts. What next? Kristallnacht?

Well, of COURSE he did. Inside every so-called "progressive" is a totalitarian screaming to get out.
He'd probably leave the mosques open, though....

It is time for everyone to file lawsuits seeking temporary and permanent injunctions against all the would-be dictators in NYC and RI - and, sadly, FL and TX - trying to suspend the right to travel, the right to worship, the right to assemble, and a whole lot else. Government doesn't get to suspend the Bill of Rights during emergencies, though they try (and Woodrow Wilson got away with it a lot). The government can legitimately make a religious service limit the number of participants and space themselves out like it can a grocer but I don't see how it can shut things down entirely. I live in the NYC area - from what I've seen, the police are restrained here - one of them told my daughter that this is all silly and pointless and ineffective. But I don't see mass arrests - I respect but also suspect the police and it's amazing to see them being the most restrained part of government in this area.

Well, at least we have a list of self identified want to be dictators who are racing each other to stomp on the constitution - so far they have managed to strive to deny the 1snt, 2nd, 3rd(1) and 4th amendments - there will be a push back!

Where are the lawsuits Bill Donohue? Where are you Thomas More Society? What are they so scared of? Wake up American Catholics! We are called to be Saints. If the bishops won’t sue, the laity must take up the cross. WAKE UP!

No wonder people are fleeing New York like birds flying South for the Winter. The funny part is that people elsewhere are resisting them more strongly than they do illegal immigrants.

Watching from fly over country, New York and especially NYC politics currently, is like observing repeated train wrecks in a nightmare. The, 'cars,' keep piling into eachother but the voters keep choosing the same inept engineers. ...It appears to be time for a change in the horrible leadership in both the state & NYC. You get what you vote for.

With the no bail law, they should be back on the streets within minutes, but isn't this the grandstander that give press conferences with a dozen people standing beside and behind him. So arrest him for breaking the same law.

They get what they vote for. And this is probably perfectly OK with the majority of Catholics/Christians in the N.Y. metro area. Don't confuse evil with stupid. DeBlasio knows his voters and what makes them tick.

One has just returned from St. Michael putting a check into the mail box (the mail box is open). St. Michael is abandoned, locked and dead.
And of what use is a locked Church?
And of what use is a locked Synagogue?
And, yes, of what use is a locked Mosque?
And of what use is locked faith, suppressed faith?
I suggest this: since Dan Patrick, the Lt. Governor of Texas has proclaimed "old people" as being of no further consequence and do not resuscitate: let's open the Churches, and Synagogues and Mosques to only "old people" and we'll go to Church, and Synagogue and Mosque and pray and keep the real lines of communication open and to hell with Bill deBlasio and his cowardice, and his and his types Godlessness and faithlessness.

...And as time goes on at some point a Bishop or Archbishop or maybe even that dunce Dolan will write an open letter to deBlasio expressing his "profound disappointment" and "grave concerns" about the policy. That will surely send a shiver through City Hall /s

Amen #2. The permanent aspect is the key to taking up arms; there's no public health excuse to lean on just a Marxist one.
I have always objected to the term "taking the law into their own hands." The law is in our hands, read the bleeping constitution. It's when people go outside the law that they earn our condemnation whether or not they are elected officials.

The thing that worries us so much is that nefarious people watch closely how the response to an "emergency" real OR imagined could degenerate into actual national totalitarian control.
It's interesting and quite pleasing, how President Trump resists insistent calls to Federalize police or military authority, uniformly. But an Obama & Company, so eager for every crisis they could use to their advantage, as the Pelosi mob just tried to do with the "emergency" spending bill, would not so easily step away from the use of ultimate power .
It makes me a little queasy that generally speaking we are all complying. But we're doing what's asked of us for the weak, elderly and infirm, concomitantly for ourselves. So it's a sort of social compact of mutuality.

These leftists see that their best shot to get Trump by crashing the economy isn't working. His numbers continue to improve. They will push as far as they can, hoping that we have all turned into timid sheep who will obediently destroy our great country just because they told us to.
