On Monday, Johnson & Johnson announced they had selected a lead COVID-19 vaccine candidate to help fight the virus. The company stated they had been working on various candidates for a vaccine since January; the goal is to provide a global supply of more than one billion doses. The company expects to conduct human clinical studies of its lead vaccine candidate at the latest by September 2020 and estimates it could start delivering the vaccine by early 2021, which it notes is “a substantially accelerated timeframe in comparison to the typical vaccine development process.”

This is what can happen in countries that are free of Communism, Fascism and Socialism can do. Individual freedom wins! Let the drug companies have unrestricted profits - this is their motivation to innovate. The prices will come down where competition is healthy! Let the drug companies rip and they will bring us cures!

Hope it works, but will this cost a lot more than hydrochloroquine, for which they don't have the patent?

Oops, I misread. It's a vaccine, not a treatment, so no comparison to hydrochloroquine.

I think I'll stick with the hydroxychloroquine/Zn/Azithromycin treatment, if I need it. My immune system will have ramped up to notice the invaders, and that's the same result as the vaccine. But I certainly wouldn't wait until I needed to go to the hospital to get the treatment. That's waiting too late.

That's some good news. My guess is possible side affects makes the availability timeline hard to pin down.

You’ve probably heard the expression those who can, do, and those who can’t, teach. A Rhode Island public school teacher perhaps gave that chestnut a new meaning by allegedly taking to Twitter with an offer to pay someone infected with COVID-19 to cough on President Trump. The educator in question, who has subsequently deactivated her Twitter account that purportedly operated anonymously under the handle “Proud Teacher,” is said to teach English as a Second Language to middle schoolers. She previously taught in neighboring Massachusetts. Chutzpah is a Yiddish word meaning incredible audacity. The most famous example is the man who murders both his parents and then throws himself on the mercy of the court because he’s an orphan. Neither Prince Harry nor Meghan Markle is Jewish, and it’s doubtful if they even know the meaning of the word “chutzpah,” but they’ve sure got it – and Trump was not amused. One of the things that was immediately obvious about Meghan Markle was that she was “woke.” That is, in keeping with her “B” level actress status, she eagerly copied all the political shibboleths of the big Leftist stars
