Miami has reported its first COVID-19 related death, amid fears it could become the next coronavirus epicenter in the United States. Israel Carreras, 40, died in hospital Friday due to complications from the highly contagious virus he is believed to have caught at a dance party held on Miami Beach earlier this month. Carreras' heartbroken partner, Franco Conquista, has paid tribute to his boyfriend in an interview with NBC, stating: 'Everybody loved him. His personality just shined ... [there was] just an aura around him'. Carreras attended the Winter Party Festival between March 4 and 10, before coming down with a horrible cough.

"Boyfriend pays tribute to his partner". Aren't homosexuals considered a high risk group for contracting the Chinese Flu (and a lot of other things)?

One of the things that struck me in my state's statistics is that there are almost twice as many hospitalizations in the 30-59 years age group than in the 60+ age group. I'd been wondering if there was a smoking or vaping link, but after reading this article, I'm wondering if there's a homosexual link as well. Of course, it is un-PC to consider such things, so we'll never know.

This kind of reminds you of the early days of the AIDS epidemic. Wasn't there a book titled something like And the Band Played On?

The guy looked to be in extremely good health. Based on what the statistics have been, it is very likely there was an underlying condition to facilitate such a quick death. The picture of the party speaks volumes. They were packed in like sardines. Promiscuity can be deadly in normal times. This virus makes it even worse.

Or perhaps age-based rationing, #3. I've seen scattered reports that people over 60 coming to hospitals with symptoms of covid-19 have been given meds with some advice and sent home. Hard to tell whether it was true or rumor, though.

#6 - not likely. Hospitalizations correlate pretty closely to total cases.

It is and was an act of EXTREME selfishness for these folks to have had this gathering under the circumstances. Hopefully smarter heads will prevail and curtail these practices until the crisis is over.

Homosexuals have dramatically higher rates of many diseases, especially HIV which wipes out the immune system. So...being a homosexual and going to a beach party during a particularly deadly flu pandemic, yeah, that is a real smart move. Risky behaviors get you risky results.

Agree with OP. This is not going to go well for the gay community in Florida, of which there are several large areas. Ignoring commonsense advice and being a bug chaser like this guy was, not a good idea under the best of circumstance.
A previous comment raises an interesting question. Will the vapers soon be considered high risk along with the gay community?

In addition, narcotics users are likely immuno-compromised. I have seen no reports of this population segment crossed referenced for infection and death.

One other thing. For all intents and purposes Miami is part of the Spanish Caribbean, not the US. No wonder it could be the new epicenter.

It's always the "widely loved and adored" types who go first. They get invited to all the parties. Misanthropes and introverts have an evolutionary advantage in the current circumstances.

Immuno-compromised. Has Pete ButtGig called in his C-plan yet? If Slow Joe goes Pete might need one.

Maybe the guy had aids or other immune system problems. How about an autopsy report and see what the toxicology is for one thing and find out the facts before attributing the cause of death from CV-19.

Well, the liberals, since the sixties, have been advocating "Do your own thing" and "If it feels good, do it." Following that advice can get you into ALL kinds of trouble. All I know is that God put the Ten Commandments and do's and don'ts in the Bible for our OWN GOOD.

A lot of gay men and those who are bi are taking pre-exposure prophylaxis drugs (called PReP) so even if healthy they may be at a risk for infection. Then you have men with HIV who are so under control with drugs they are living normal lives. The number of seemingly healthy gay men who've sickened fast and died from COVID-19 is a red flag which will be researched later. But these guys should be put immediately on the combo of hydroxychlorquine and azithromycin just like older people with respiratory, high blood pressure, and multiple chronic conditions..

The absolutely LAST people I care about in all this are men with boyfriends. The news media should get a clue and quit writing such crap.
