California is bracing for its turn as the nation's hotspot for the COVID-19 outbreak and the state's leaders are flexing their statist muscles with all manner of edicts, spy programs, and threats of prosecution.
The state is currently in shut-down mode, with only "essential businesses" open and people ordered to socially distance from other possible germ carriers. Restaurants can serve only take-out orders, grocery stores require people to line up outside until the crowds thin out inside. In the beach communities, "outsiders" are being told to stay out. Hiking trails, parks and even the beaches – the open-air beaches – are closed. In the City of Laguna Beach,

Orwell indeed. We are now totally at the mercy of what the media tells us. Governors and even county commissioners have assumed dictatorial powers. Things are coming to a head.

To answer the Must Reads question:' Why isn't Animal Farm required
reading in public schools?' For the same reason the identity of playing cards isn't printed on BOTH sides. It's pretty hard to win if people can see what you're up to. Same reason schools no longer teach what is wrong and bad about communism.

Spring break in Florida had thousands of people (students) crowding on the beaches. Photos showed them crowded as bad as some shoppers in stores. No social distancing there. So Florida closed the beaches. Now some of these spring breakers are coming down with the virus. Open air won't protect you if you come in close contact with a source.

Why is it that all Kung Flu hot spots in this country are large blue democrat controlled cities?

My wife is teaching a course on Fahrenheit 451, and Animal Farm for a homeschool co-op. The class is called Burning Books and Revolting Animals.

Not just LA. Tampa just instituted a tip line for people to call in if they see any place that isn't practicing social distancing. The mayor of Tampa is calling this the 'new normal'. Temporarily maybe. Permanent, no. Funny how the mayor didn't mention that.
We are going to see this everywhere. Somebody explain to me how this differs from a dictatorial takeover. Its all suppose to be in the name of public safety. Having doubts about that.

None of the past deep state attempts have worked to destroy Orange Man Bad. Now, the deep state shows its ruthlessness by intentionally infecting the globe with fear and panic to demonstrate their power and tell anyone who opposes them (like Trump and YOU), this is what they do to maintain their power. Mitch is a very obedient deep state member but he promises, the next Chicom virus bill will not have Pelosi additions. Wow, just, wow. I think that is what why Trump is sort of a little different and seems a tiny bit shook during this iteration of "destroy Orange Man bad" theater. I too would be shocked at how far the deep state will go to destroy YOU by destroying Trump. That is all this Chicom virus thing is about. If the deep state had an asteroid they could direct at the earth, I am convinced they'd use it to prevent the Constitution from maintaining our freedom. They did it with the Chicom virus. If there's a next time, they can use the threat of space alien attacks to maintain their power and if I were the deep state, I'd be real confident that would work.

The article doesn’t mention it, but does this apply to the weed stores too? Betcha not - they need their population stoned and submissive. And they need the tax dollars.

The same people that are calling Trump a 'NAZI' and dictatorial don't seem to have any problem when their favorite political party exercises little dictatorships over the people. Not the elites of course, just the sheep. Look at these little dictators with 10 to 12 people and a signer standing around them, telling us we can't gather in groups of 10.

I do find it troubling how supinely everyone accepted the government's seizure and exercise of extraordinary powers in the face of an "emergency". There will always be wars and rumors of wars. And now we have the precedent of giving up all of our civil liberties in the face of a relatively ordinary one. This will not end well. And I don't mean COVID-19.

Democrats LOVE their slogans, don't they? "Safer at Home," eh? Actually they're demonstrating in real time that it should be, "Safer Without Democrats in Charge."

If the business don't have any sales, they are going to die for certain, regardless of any virus, which they may not get.

Wrong conclusions on Spring Break here. I would wager that is was not the people enjoying the sun on the beaches that spread Coronavirus but the decades-long practice of cramming six to eight partygoers in each hotel room to stretch money and the resulting drunken sex that is the real reason that these morons travel to Florida, South Texas and California every year.

Totally agree with #13. Most Americans are playing along with this for now but eventually enough will be enough. The Governors have far outstepped their bounds and seem to think they are emperors. The police in my area have no intention of arresting people on the street. That might fly in LA but it would raise quite a ruckus here. The Governor in Michigan (liberal loser) was asked in a town hall if people were 'allowed' to go for a drive in their cars. She said 'absolutely not'. Try to stop me wench.

Why can't we just shut off the water and power supply to LA and hope it dries up and blows away?
