California is bracing for its turn as the nation's hotspot for the COVID-19 outbreak and the state's leaders are flexing their statist muscles with all manner of edicts, spy programs, and threats of prosecution. The state is currently in shut-down mode, with only "essential businesses" open and people ordered to socially distance from other possible germ carriers. Restaurants can serve only take-out orders, grocery stores require people to line up outside until the crowds thin out inside. In the beach communities, "outsiders" are being told to stay out. Hiking trails, parks and even the beaches – the open-air beaches – are closed. In the City of Laguna Beach,

To answer the Must Reads question:' Why isn't Animal Farm required reading in public schools?' For the same reason the identity of playing cards isn't printed on BOTH sides. It's pretty hard to win if people can see what you're up to. Same reason schools no longer teach what is wrong and bad about communism.

Spring break in Florida had thousands of people (students) crowding on the beaches. Photos showed them crowded as bad as some shoppers in stores. No social distancing there. So Florida closed the beaches. Now some of these spring breakers are coming down with the virus. Open air won't protect you if you come in close contact with a source.

Not just LA. Tampa just instituted a tip line for people to call in if they see any place that isn't practicing social distancing. The mayor of Tampa is calling this the 'new normal'. Temporarily maybe. Permanent, no. Funny how the mayor didn't mention that. We are going to see this everywhere. Somebody explain to me how this differs from a dictatorial takeover. Its all suppose to be in the name of public safety. Having doubts about that.

None of the past deep state attempts have worked to destroy Orange Man Bad. Now, the deep state shows its ruthlessness by intentionally infecting the globe with fear and panic to demonstrate their power and tell anyone who opposes them (like Trump and YOU), this is what they do to maintain their power. Mitch is a very obedient deep state member but he promises, the next Chicom virus bill will not have Pelosi additions. Wow, just, wow. I think that is what why Trump is sort of a little different and seems a tiny bit shook during this iteration of "destroy Orange Man bad" theater. I too would be shocked at how far the deep state will go to destroy YOU by destroying Trump. That is all this Chicom virus thing is about. If the deep state had an asteroid they could direct at the earth, I am convinced they'd use it to prevent the Constitution from maintaining our freedom. They did it with the Chicom virus. If there's a next time, they can use the threat of space alien attacks to maintain their power and if I were the deep state, I'd be real confident that would work.

The same people that are calling Trump a 'NAZI' and dictatorial don't seem to have any problem when their favorite political party exercises little dictatorships over the people. Not the elites of course, just the sheep. Look at these little dictators with 10 to 12 people and a signer standing around them, telling us we can't gather in groups of 10.

I do find it troubling how supinely everyone accepted the government's seizure and exercise of extraordinary powers in the face of an "emergency". There will always be wars and rumors of wars. And now we have the precedent of giving up all of our civil liberties in the face of a relatively ordinary one. This will not end well. And I don't mean COVID-19.

Wrong conclusions on Spring Break here. I would wager that is was not the people enjoying the sun on the beaches that spread Coronavirus but the decades-long practice of cramming six to eight partygoers in each hotel room to stretch money and the resulting drunken sex that is the real reason that these morons travel to Florida, South Texas and California every year.

Totally agree with #13. Most Americans are playing along with this for now but eventually enough will be enough. The Governors have far outstepped their bounds and seem to think they are emperors. The police in my area have no intention of arresting people on the street. That might fly in LA but it would raise quite a ruckus here. The Governor in Michigan (liberal loser) was asked in a town hall if people were 'allowed' to go for a drive in their cars. She said 'absolutely not'. Try to stop me wench.

Imagine still being so bitter over the 2016 election that you use the tragic, lost lives of Americans to attack the man who beat you. Imagine being Hillary Clinton. The former Democratic presidential nominee took to Twitter to attack President Trump over the fact that the United States now has the world’s highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases. (Note: This raw number is kind of a useless statistic — we are not the highest when you look at cases relative to population size.) Over 2,000 U.S. citizens have died from the virus, but Clinton decided to make light of that fact to dunk on Trump.

You know, all these differing rules about how we are supposed to react to #MeToo stuff seems really complex and difficult, since they change based on the ideology of the alleged pervert, but it’s really simple if you just understand one simple thing. The liberal outrage is all a lie and a scam. They don’t give a damn about women getting treated like garbage. Not even a little.

It was Treasury Secretary Steven T. French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire has called on his countrymen to buy domestic products as the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak cripples the European single market. Describing his approach as “economic patriotism,” he urged French supermarkets to ‘stock French products.’ The call didn’t go unheard. Following the minister’s remarks on Tuesday, the trade body representing French supermarkets vowed to stock up shelves exclusively with fruits and vegetables produced within France once the foreign products run out, the newspaper Les Echos reported. The French move comes at a time when the 27 member European Union single market faces a massive supply chain crisis in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Will the European Union be one of the casualties of COVID-19? The worldwide pandemic has dealt a dramatic and obvious blow to the liberal ideas of free trade and freedom of movement that inspired and were inspired by the EU. The openness that made it possible to travel and do business seamlessly across a continent has provided the virus with a cornucopia of vectors for transmission. If the refugee crisis of the mid-2010s put strengthened borders back on the continent's political agenda, the pandemic has made the case for hunkering down nationally as well as individually hard to dispute.

NORTH HAVEN, Maine—The ferry to the island of North Haven, Maine, has space for a dozen or so vehicles and 220 passengers. This past Saturday afternoon, there were just three passengers: a cable operator on his way to check the island’s Internet service, and a lobsterman and his sternman returning from a supply run. They made the 12-mile crossing inside their trucks, opting not to venture into the ferry’s empty passenger compartments. About 75 minutes later, they docked at the town landing where a single car waited to depart. Normally, this time of year, the 12:30 p.m. ferry runs about half full.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pennsylvania — It is early Sunday morning along one of the few congested stretches of the Lincoln Highway when an empty parking lot below the familiar cheery yellow sign for the local Waffle House catches the eye. It feeds a cult-like following among foodies and road warriors. But it is also known for two other very remarkable distinctions: It closes for no disaster, and the stores have no locks.

Covid-19: The Reality Show has taken cable TV by storm. The plot is nominally about a war against an invisible Chinese invader that has already killed over 1,200 Americans. But on another level, it is a family sitcom, a successor to Ozzie and Harriet, Leave It to Beaver, and The Cosby Show. The star is Daddy Donald, a brilliant if erratic father figure, who sometimes rambles on, as fathers are wont to do. He is ably supported by his younger brother, Uncle Mike, who is loyal, steady, competent, and boring. With every strand of his snow-white hair perfectly in place, Uncle Mike always says the right thing.

Then why, amidst panic, death and economic shutdown, is Joe Biden looking like the sick man of 2020? Thursday’s 3.3 million new unemployment claims wiped out nearly half the jobs created in the last three years, and the worst is yet to come.

Poll of the week: A new ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that President Donald Trump's approval rating among all adults in 48%, while his disapproval rating is 46%. Trump scores a very similar 49% approval rating and 47% disapproval rating with registered voters. What's the point: There's no doubt now that Trump is experiencing a bump in his popularity following his response to the coronavirus pandemic. The ABC News/Washington Post poll is quite similar to the Monmouth University poll that came out earlier this week, for instance. But what is interesting to me is that Trump's jump is coming disproportionality from non-voters. Normally Trump does considerably better among voters than among adults.
