Anthony Fauci, M.D., the 79-year old head of the National Institute of Allegy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), has become the #1 point man on the government’s role in the coronavirus crisis. Fauci has worked for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) his entire professional life. In the past, for more than two decades starting in the mid-1980s, he was the medical establishment’s face of HIV-AIDS – omnipresent on television when AIDS was hot and ever present at international AIDS conferences well into the 21st century. Always, he was an enthusiastic advocate of throwing more federal money at the problem of AIDS. He's widely praised in the press.

You know he does resemble a weasel. Yes there is a virus out there but the more I read, the more I believe that there are group of people out there trying to destroy what has been gained. I’ve tried hard not become a conspiracy theorist on this but it’s beginning to show its ugly little head

Not surprised. This little dwarf has been enjoying being in the media spot light way too much. There has been something off putting about this guy from the start. Being a Hillary supporter just confirms what his real agenda is which is destroying our economy. In this case rather than his hands he needs his mouth washed out with soap.
Trump needs to 86 him. No doubt Fauci is working against President Trump behind the scene with his fellow Deep State operatives in the government. Get rid of him Mr. President and put someone from the private sector in charge. Our personal freedoms and ability to support ourselves is being stripped away.

Do you think this guy is behind the scenes convincing Trump to let this insanity go on? I've seen him speak and didn't notice anything too crazy about him except how short he is.

I think Trump may have been suckered a bit on Covid-19.
Praise from the likes of Ilhan Omar makes me suspicious in the way of not interfering with an enemy when making a mistake.
Knowing Trump, he either knew this going in or has plans to turn it to some immense advantage that improves and restructures the federal government. Feel the force, Luke.

Excellent article. Kind of puts into perspective of why pols, especially in places like San Francisco, refused to implement proven public health practices for AIDS. Fauci and the left wanted a cash cow and got it.

What’s missing from the WuFlu pressers is an end date to this massive shutdown of our country. Will it be the day the number of new Coronavirus infections declines over previous day or week? Will it be when the FDA and NIH are satisfied that malaria pills and antibiotics can both reduce recovery period and possibly prevent contracting virus? This interruption of our lives cannot go on without a specified end date, and that is my objection to Dr Fauci and the team. President Trump has to ask for a date or accomplishment that signals the end of this nightmare, and so far, he doesn’t seem to have an answer.
We cannot remain in quarantine using Gov Cuomo’s nonsensical “if it saves just one life” utterance of yesterday.

Beyond disturbing. How can any remotely sentient person find value in Hillary Clinton?
Throw in agenda driven players like the CDC and WHO and worry where we'll be on the other side of Kung Flu.

Face it. They do have Trump by the ankles with this one. If he downplays the risk, the Dem and media coalition will headline every new infection and every death as Trump's fault. He has no choice but to play into the panic. However, he has demonstrated a remarkable ability to turn his enemies plans against them. We'll see how this pans out, but look for Trump to use this as an opportunity to streamline and change federal drug and response regulations, strengthen travel and immigration controls. And, most importantly, he now has concrete evidence supporting his mandate to bring manufacturing back to the US. Look for MAGA/KAGA to blossom like new spring blooms!

In certain medical specialties, an orthodoxy prevails. The highest purpose of an orthodoxy is to protect the financial interests of its members. This is something to keep in mind.

I have to say I am disappointed in Trump for buying into this so wholeheartedly. Everyone in DC has an agenda and he should understand this better than most. If Hillary were President right now she would be trying her damndest to make this state of affairs permanent. Why do you think Trump’s cheerleaders are AOC, Omar and Dana Bash? That alone should scare the bejesus out of you.

#2, I absolutely agree. The numbers just do not justify this panic. There are twice as many dead from the flu this season in the US as there are dead from CV19 worldwide. I am also curious about other virus’??? What other virus’ are killing people this season and what are the numbers?

The National Institutes of Health should be a dry operation that simply distributes dollars properly to medical researchers around the country. Instead it is a behemoth and a system/culture of power fiefdoms. It features incredible duplicative activities (research and non-research). It is given way too much money in the yearly budgets.

While I have no doubt of his political leanings, I have even less doubt that this is Fauci's moment and self-interest will always trump other considerations. This is not time to dump Fauci - it is too late at this point except for some egregious cause - and I've not heard of any royal f-ups that warrant it. So not only would the move make the President look foolish but would send the wrong message to the public.

As another poster observed....they have Trump by the ankles. He had better start kicking back. The country has been shut down. Our small businesses are being destroyed and our economy is in free fall. Corona is a common cold and those with compromised immune systems just may die. News flash. There is a life cycle. The elderly die!!
Come on President Trump!! You are being played.

79 years old and still working for the federal government. So typical - no new talent anywhere in the federal government. And 99.9% of the NIH, HHS, FDA, etc are Democrats.

Every time the deep state or democrats try to ''get Trump by the ankles'' it boomerangs on them. I believe they are trying to take advantage of the Chinese virus, but don't think they are smart enough to create a world-wide pandemic. President Trump has his eyes wide open.

The good doctor is not helping the situation. Laura Ingraham had a fascinating story on last night about some of these drug combinations that have had verified, overwhelmingly positive results, using FDA-approved drugs. However, the study was not done in the U.S. and was a smaller sample than what we usually require, therefore the doctor dismissed it as “anecdotal.” Anyone who is approaching this situation from an educrat, politicrat, or medicrat perspective needs to step aside. We don’t have time for your egos, nor your minutiae-focused approach. We need to be thinking outside the box. The Chinese are having remarkable success using Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat this disease. Anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal drugs are abundant in nature and remarkably effective.

So many opinions here and that's not a bad thing, it shows that we are thinking and not blindly believing like good little communists. If you work for the Federal Govt and have a top position like Fauci does, of course you are going to want money to support whatever piece of the action you have. Fauci answers every question accurately and without a hint of evasion. I find his briefings to be honest and believable. If we are bing conned, it is not by him or by Donald Trump. Trump is already on top of the world and a huge success, why on Earth would he feel the need to lie or deceive us? Remember, half of the country supported Hillary in one way or another before 2016 because she was a great con artist. Not so much now.

The only benefit from this virus I've been able to see, is that traffic has pretty much disappeared. Going and returning from work is almost a joy. Parking, which is usually a nightmare, is now easy since half the parking garage is empty. The speed limit on I-95 which is 65mph, should now be upped to 85mph since well over half the cars are doing that and more, and that's during rush hour. My usual hour to hour and fifteen minute commute has turned into 35 to 40 minutes.

One needs to ask whether Dr. Fauci is too old at 79 to be in this sort of high pressure rapidly changing situation? Shouldn't he be taking his own advice as a high risk older person to self isolate?

I am a cardiologist. The money spent on AIDS research was money well spent. When AIDS came out we had very little knowledge about how viruses work. Because of that research hepatitis c was cured, AIDS was made into a mild chronic illness. The research led to breakthroughs in immunology and cancer treatment. That being said, Fauci is a liar and a fraud. He trie to convince men that heterosexual sex in the US could cause AIDS. In fact there were no cases AIDS being transmitted to men by heterosexual sex. This is not true in Africa and Haiti where the men are uncircumcised and there is very high incidence of other venereal disease. He did this to be OC and not stigmatize the gay community by scaring people who were not at risk.
In addition he said that the evidence of anti malaria drugs being “anecdotal” is deliberately misleading. In fact there is a randomized open trial from France showing 100% of the treated people had an incredible response to treatment while only 6% got better better with no treatment. The probability that this was by chance is one in 10,000. Also Lennox Hill Hospital reported that in 100 very sick patients hospitalized and receiving hydroxychoroquine and Azithromycin, no one died. You do not need a controllled trial to know that this works because we have historical controls showing that many people would have died without treatment. Fauci is a publicity hog and wants to keep himself in the spotlight as long as possible.

#35, thank you for the info on how AIDS research money benefited our understanding of viruses and the resulting medical advances. Most of us do not get into the results of research particularly after a subject like AIDS does down the memory hole so again, thanks for enlightening us.
