The only US company that manufactures a drug being fast-tracked as a potential treatment for coronavirus suddenly doubled the price earlier this year, data shows. Rising Pharmaceuticals, in New Jersey, increased the price of anti-malarial drug chloroquine from around $3.87 per 250mg pill to $7.66, according to data seen by the Financial Times. Meanwhile the price of a 500mg pill rose from around $10.05 to $19.88. A Rising spokesman told the FT that the price rise was 'coincidental' and that it was reversed when the company realized it could prove useful in defeating coronavirus.

I'll withhold judgement until there is actual proof.

The prices they charge are just insane...recently diagnosed as a diabetic and put on Metformin...that crap gave me Montezumas revenge big time...then switched to Jardiance...picked up a 30 day supply and I paid $134 out of pocket..when my monthly drug use statement came from my insurer, I discovered the total price for 30 days was $510..,$17 bucks a pill.....didn't renew that one either...

Hey before I believe wholesale what is going on here, we have noticed a few higher prices in my Wal-Mart, HEB and Walgreens too. We chose to believe coincidence.

Bayer also makes hydroquoloquine (Plaquenil) and they just donated 3 million tablets. Screw this guy profiteering off the disease.

#3 And those are the cheap drugs. See if your Insurance plan and Dr will go for the time release version of Metformin. It's not as hard on your system. If on Medicare be prepared to go into the gap on your second quarter. And you will not get out of it. If on commercial Insurance there are a large number of manufacturer coupons that will bring your out of pocket down. Forbidden by law for Medicare, we must pay full list.

I’m okay with the company sticking it to the Chinese; as long as it charges fair market price to us.

RE #3:
I am also on Metformin. My Dr. started me on the extended release version and it was a whole lot easier for my body to adjust to the medicine without the problem you referenced. I am now on the regular version, again with no problems. It comes in a cheap generic version as well.

My hubby is type II also. Along with his medication, he also takes a blood sugar supplement called Glucocil. It’s an additional help with his blood sugar. We get it from GNC.

And I do understand that for the development of new drugs to continue, the massive R&D costs and testing costs, and the significant number of drugs that fail late in the process, after hundreds of millions expended, must be paid for. I got that. I support that, and realize that this leads to terribly expensive drugs

Exactly, #14. Public opinion is part of what goes into free markets, and in this case it slapped the hand of the greedy, causing them to rethink their pricing strategy.

Price gouging is a reality and supply and demand check. Would you be willing to pay $500 for a roll of toilet paper? No? Then maybe you don't really need it and can come up alternatives - that old book handed down from grandma has lots and lots of paper in it. Same with this "cure". Are you on your death bed racked with fever, or do you just think your sick? If your not on your deathbed, maybe you don't really need the pill while others do.

Probably the FDA is screwing things up, because there should be competition in a generic like this. The chemical manufacturing is not exceptionally complex, the pill making is simple, straightforward. No high pay PhD research teams needed.
Something is rotten and I'll bet the FDA is at the bottom of it, either increasing costs for no real gain or preventing competition some way.

As Quid Pro Joe might say if his handlers can wake him up BFD. I pay $ 550 for a 90 day supply of Januvia. If I had the WuHuFlu my only question would be do I have to have a prescription to get. Maybe we should all get it before it becomes as rare as toilet tissue.

Most certainly a coincidence. I wonder how many of our esteemed Congressmen and Senators bought stock in this company after dumping their hotel and hospitality holdings, also purely by chance and not acting on inside information?
