SACRAMENTO – Long lines and empty shelves caused by the coronavirus have led to a toilet paper shortage, which has caused a ripple effect — going all the way to city sewer systems. With the insufficient supply of bathroom paper products, more Californians are buying flushable wipes, baby wipes, and other self-care paper products. The problem is the so-called flushable wipes and other products can cause problems in sanitary sewer systems. The bathroom hygiene products are marketed as flushable, but wastewater officials say that’s misleading. Items like flushable wipes, paper towels, cotton swabs, hair, trash, debris, and hygiene products can

People from the city municipal water and sewer department had to come by once and clear a pipe in the street that was way backed up. They told me I wouldn't believe what people flush.

Being an amateur plumber..... DO NOT flush anything. I have had to pull off the toilets of various relatives at times to pull out "stuff"......never flush a plastic tampon applicator....please, or about anything else except feces and TP.

To NorthernDog who posted this article. I had the same first thought. I wonder if the people in Sacramento know what a corn cob is.

Is there a problem on Earth that Californians can not create for themselves? Imagine a city that already has homeless people spreading all kinds of trash and feces all over the place having the sewer systems clog up and run out over the sidewalks. It's great to be 3,000 miles away from all that.

It was Cheryl Crow, and a number of other lefty kooks, who not so long ago were advocating, with all the self-righteous arrogance seeping from their pores, that if we use tp at all (???) we should use one little square per potty trip.
So, where are these people now? why aren't they out there exhorting their Democrat followers to do the right thing according to their guide book.
But the much larger philosophical question is, Where has the tp gone?

Folks should keep in mind there is a majority of people in California who are not originally from there. I for one will be glad when they go back home. For some reason they think the state is a party place or haven from justice.

To add to #3, hold the lever down until you know it has stopped flushing, then release. For solid waste, flush twice. This from one who has been in the nether region of a crawlspace cleaning pipes.

#13, because a lot of people are just stupid. TP is not needed in greater than normal quantities with this disease, by all accounts. Just stupid.

These liberals will be polluting the rivers...the people who tolerated sanctuary cities, poop, needles & urine on the streets can’t handle a toilet paper shortage?

Reading about q-tips makes me think through all the options I would go to before getting that desperate: leaves, newspaper, self-help books I was given....haha

Last week a woman was buying paper towels because she couldn't find toilet tissue. She heard you could cut the roll in half. Told her if she flushed that paper towel, she was going to pay for it.
