Anne Applebaum goes off the deep end

Along with Bill Kristol, Jennifer Rubin, Max Boot, and other once-respected intellectuals, we now see the same anti-Trump lunacy infecting Atlantic Monthly writer Anne Applebaum, whose self-important loathing for Trump has descended into outright anti-Americanism. In her case, the transmission vehicle is the coronavirus. First, she wrote a badly reasoned Atlantic Monthly piece claiming American had finally gotten its comeuppance in the coronavirus pandemic just as the Japanese got theirs before the Meiji Restoration, realizing how far behind they really were (really?). "Calls America's bluff," as she put it, implying our entire nation was some kind of con ... Then, she put out this ridiculous tweet:

I do not understand Anne Applebaum's Trump hatred. She wrote a brilliant book on the Soviet Gulag system. Also one on the the Iron Curtain in Eastern Europe. Does she really think Trump is like Stalin in any way? He is the opposite. With her interest in the evils of communism, she should be a conservative. I don't get it.

Probably panic over the virus. Some people express their panic in different ways. They need to point fingers. They need someone to blame. The Chinese are, essentially faceless, while President Trump is familiar and here. Maybe she's angry because the cocktail circuit is shut down....

Globalists hate middle class freedoms. She hates it that Trump is at least slowing, perhaps even ending, the slip away from our Constitution to globalist centralized control. Ultimately, being a writer for Atlantic proves that I shouldn't bother with her hate. And she isn't even an American.

Sad, broken minded Applebaum. The number one thing to do in dealing with this virus is to stop the spread, which Trump immediately worked on by restricting travel from infected areas. Now it is in the US, as we KNEW it would be eventually and Trump is supporting social distancing and sanitation. In the background, coordination is ongoing for needed medical supplies and capabilities. It is clear that coordination is reaching state and local levels and focusing on the most vulnerable population and healthcare workers. The federal government is putting out recommendations and the states are implementing them. Everyone is taking this very seriously and working on the various moving parts. It is valid to ask questions but idiots hectoring people trying to do their best (and doing a decent job of it) in this emergency is INSANE and is born out of unreasoning HATRED. Further, it is a disrespect of the American People to attempt to undermine their sacrifices as we attempt to slow this thing down to manageable levels.

Ordinarily I'd suggest a Leftwing Lunatic like Applebaum find a new country out of our planet's 190 countries, and go bother those people and leave us alone. Unfortunately we now have 150 countries, or about 3/4 of all of them, reporting Coronavirus 19 infestations. Not wishing to simply send her to her (quite likely) death, may I suggest she look over the list of 190, and find one that wants her.... anyway...... with or without Coronavirus infestations.

The older I get the less stock I put into carefully crafted CVs. Because someone was regarded by some other elite as an 'intellectual,' means nothing. That can change with the tide these days, so forget the past, what's the idea today? Give me a compelling reason based on reality, instead of emotion or personal political filter. A silly woman decreeing 'America' deserves some kind of punishment, is stupid from the get go. She is a fool with zero standing to pontificate about national sins or punishment and the liberal nest Atlantic paying for such a dumb rant, only tarnishes whatever reputation it has. Honestly liberals are beyond manic these days with contorted crying about how upset they are by a world and a reality that is ignoring more and more of them. The Lucianne pond is full of posters with more wisdom, questions and relevant information than all of MSM. Almost any response thread on Lucianne has more educational value in 10 minutes than hours digging thru Atlantic articles trying to find a paragraph of sanity.

Almost everyone acknowledges that the homeless population is at great risk of Coronavirus, but so far as I have been able to determine nobody is telling us the percentage of the hospitalized cases and the deaths are accounted for by that same population – nationally or in specific locales. California’s Governor Gavin Newsom authorized funding for housing homeless in trailers and hotel rooms, but so far, few of them have taken advantage of the offer. I know that we are supposed to have nothing but compassion for the homeless, and my heart breaks for those of them who are not drug addicted and irresponsible.

President Trump has endorsed his GOP rival. All the same, it's pretty impressive, given Trump's refusal to forgive.

For decades and decades, politicians who propose and promote big government have done all they could to wean Americans off the convenience and freedom of cars and pack them like sardines into subways and buses, so they may travel to and from work in communal harmony. As George Will has written, “the real reason for progressives’ passion for trains is their goal of diminishing Americans’ individualism in order to make them more amenable to collectivism.” Will added, “Automobiles encourage people to think they – unsupervised, untutored, and unscripted – are masters of their fates. The evidence of China’s deliberate cover-up of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan is a matter of public record. In suppressing information about the virus, doing little to contain it, and allowing it to spread unchecked in the crucial early days and weeks, the regime imperiled not only its own country and its own citizens but also the more than 100 nations now facing their own potentially devastating outbreaks. More perniciously, the Chinese government censored and detained those brave doctors and whistleblowers who attempted to sound the alarm and warn their fellow citizens when they understood the gravity of what was to come.
