The mayor of Champaign, Illinois has declared a town emergency over the Wuhan coronavirus that includes a potential ban on the sale of firearms and ammunition.
According to a local report from WAND 17, Champaign Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen has issued an executive order that would give her office "extraordinary powers." She has issued the order despite the town and surrounding area not having a single case of the disease.
"The executive order allows the city to be flexible to properly respond to the emergency needs of our community. None of the options will necessarily will be implemented but are available

Buy more ammo whenever this happens.
We need to start pushing our senators and reps to clear away the unconstitutional 'edicts' the fedgov made in 1934 and 1968 and 1986. Their power to tax cannot be used to violate the clear proscriptions and limits the fedgov is under.

Champaign, Illinois home of the University of Illinois. If "Vote Trump" written in chalk on a sidewalk can trigger panic in the hearts of the Snowflake student body can you imagine their panic?
Just make absolutely sure that law abiding individuals are limited in the ways of self defense.

If I was a purveyor of ammunition I would take this as an opportunity to stock up. When Mr Mayor finally decides to make ammunition legal againn I'm going to ring up a big WIN.

I grew up in Champaign, and graduated from the U of I. Sadly, neither the town, nor the university, are the same places I knew; any common sense left town a long time ago. I got out as soon as I could.
I hope she’s recalled. I won’t hold my breath.

I know the Mayor of the City of Champaign. I live there. I cannot say that I am a friend of hers and I do not always agree with her political decisions; at times, I am at odds with her.
That said, unless the situation is dire, Mayor Feinen has absolutely no interest in confiscating or banning fire arms, etc. All the things listed -- the sale of food and water (via the water company) -- are vital to the local economy. The City needs the revenue to function. And Ms. Feinen is no tyrant.
This proclamation allows the City to take drastic measures if -- a BIG IF -- drastic measures are warranted. It is better to have the legal mechanism in place to be prepared for a catastrophe than to scramble when it strikes. Like it or not, that is one of the reasons, I am sure, the Mayor and City Council have acted as they have. She is NOT -- NOT -- a Leftoid Liberal.

#13 It doesn't matter if she actually implements the plan or not. The fact is that it is out there and could possibly be implemented (no matter how miniscule the possibility)! Given the current state of hysterical panic among many people, this type of emergency declaration will only add to the hysteria and make the panic even worse a people will feel the need to stock up on everything on her list "just in case". Idiotic actions like this mayors and the people who are currently panicking will only make the current hysteria worse!

This sounds unconstitutional, even in Illinois.
You can simply sign an executive order, and then determine you'll deny someone their Constitutional Right?
What makes her not want to also deny free speech, or the ability to simply arrest people without probable cause?
Now, to add something to this whole story, Champaign, IL has one of the largest Chinese-national student populations in the United States (saw this mentioned on a news show about a missing Chinese grad student).

Residents of this area need to check their State Constitution about what is or is not allowable during a State of Emergency. They do not have the right to trample your rights and do whatever they want. Do not fall for this.

Plan ahead for 'unusual things'. Food, water, means of cooking and staying warm without mains power, and methods of dealing with 'varmints' when you can't call for a cop, or none are available. And do you know how to do basic medical trauma care? If not, there are courses out there, and a bit of equipment you should own.
Lots of things, and skills in this world that one should have. Think on it. The phone will not always summon help when you need it. The grocery store will not always have food, or cleaning supplies, .....
THINK.

#13, who decides IF drastic measures are warranted? Seems like a lot of power is given to the mayor through that executive order that she proclaimed. Right or wrong, that is too much power invested in one person.

Debrah Frank Feinen is an attorney by profession, and a supporter of "sanctuary cities". In July 2019 this reprobate piece of work, ordered that the Champaign Police Department not assist federal ICE agents in her city. To forbid legal citizens of her city to purchase ammunition and firearms because of a virus is beyond comprehension and very Democratic. Hopefully the NRA will get involved and teach this gun grabbing moron that the 2nd amendment in this country trumps (no pun intended) her "executive order".
