'Rosie the Riveter' dies at 95: New York

One of the original women who are thought to have inspired Rosie the Riveter has died at the age of 95. At 19, Rosalind P. Walter, from New York, was one of many women to pitch in during World War II, working on an assembly line as a riveter on Corsair fighter planes in Connecticut. She and women like her became the inspiration for the 1942 song 'Rosie the Riveter' and the subsequent 'We Can Do It!' poster produced by J. Howard Miller. (Photos) According to the New York Times, Rosalind — whose friends actually called her Roz — was born on June 24, 1924

I danced with Rosie at a Boeing Museum of Flight Gals in Seattle circa 2006, in an extended care facility at the time, she and a few other ladies of the wings were invited to the event. Incredible evening, bright smiles, big band sound, the evening was a highlight of many memories over the years..

My Father went and fought in WWII. My Mother worked in a local tubing, Kensico Tubing, during the war. I thank all of the veterans that fought and died for the freedom that we now enjoy, however, without the women, veterans and non-veterans, we never would have been successful. They are not given enough credit for their contribution to our success during that time. They deserve better. Let's not forget those on the home front, without them we could not have done it.

My father and my wife's father were fighter pilots in WW2. My father's cousin was a USN patrol bomber pilot, his best friend died in USN flight training, my wife's uncle was on a destroyer in the Pacific, but both our mothers were too young to work in the factories by a year or two. Flying around the US in a light plane for the last 30 years, the number of giant factories, weapons storage depots covering many square miles, huge training airports in the middle of nowhere, and other leftovers from WW2 is truly amazing. Everyone did their part. RIP, Rosie, well done!

Joe Biden is racking up endorsements from former rivals and Democratic insiders, but a gaffe-riddled 7-minute speech on Saturday in St. Louis, Missouri, led President Trump to tweet out an edited clip that appears to have the former vice president endorse the current commander in chief. During the brief address, Biden, 77, declared: "If you want a nominee who will bring this party together, who will run a progressive, positive campaign, and turn, turn this primary from a campaign that's about negative attacks into one that's about what we're for -- because we cannot get -- re-elect -- we cannot win this re-election -- excuse me.

The 2020 presidential election on November 3 will not come down to which candidate has the better ideas, or who is more likable. The election will be decided depending on just how well the press will be able to hide Joe Biden's cognitive disabilities.A brief, seven-minute speech shows just what a challenge that's going to be.Fox News: During the brief address, Biden, 77, bizarrely described himself as an "O'Biden Bama" Democrat and went on to declare: "If you want a nominee who will bring this party together, who will run a progressive,

Trump Jr. stepped in to run the Trump Organization with his brother Eric when their father moved into the White House. Are we about to get a new Journal of the Plague Year? In that 1722 novel, Daniel Defoe’s protagonist gives a detailed, supposedly eyewitness account of the progress of the bubonic plague through London in 1665 . . . in order to be certain of the truth, two physicians and a surgeon were ordered to go to the house and make inspection. This they did; and finding evident tokens of the sickness upon both the bodies that were dead, they gave their opinions publicly that they died of the plague. Whereupon it was given in to the parish clerk, and he also returned them to the Hall;

Joe Biden’s Hoped-For Restoration. When one sees the words “Joe Biden” in media commentary, one often sees, too, the word “restoration.” As in, Biden promises—or threatens, depending on one’s point of view—to restore the days of Barack Obama. More broadly, it’s often said that a hypothetical President Biden would also bring about the restoration of the entire liberal Democratic Establishment. For instance, on March 5, David Brooks, columnist for The New York Times—and thus a pluperfect pillar of the liberal power structure—headlined his piece, “Biden’s Rise Gives the Establishment One Last Chance.”

Now that the once-sprawling field of Democrats seeking the presidency has become a two-man race, many in the party are breathing a sigh of relief. All the more so because Joe Biden is the clear front-runner and the dreaded Bernie Sanders looks to be fading. So it’s all set. Biden will be the nominee and give the party a solid chance of scoring a November trifecta: beating President Trump, taking the Senate and holding the House. Count me as skeptical. Instead of a smooth ride, it’s more likely that the Dems’ desperate search for a Trump slayer will hit more turbulence and an alternative to Biden still could be necessary.

It means getting up each morning and hoping you have no symptoms, getting dressed with nowhere to go — not work, not morning service at the synagogue, which is closed, too, not even shopping for groceries.

After a week of covering the Wuhan coronavirus as both as a pundit and a biosafety professional, I have come to the conclusion that maybe it is time to dial back the drama associated with the pathogen. Let’s begin by starting with some perspective. The current flu season has hit 32 million Americans, resulting in 18,000 deaths, and the vaccine that was selected for the flu season was limited in its effectiveness. Yet, we are not doing a daily flu death countdown. Understandably, COVID-19 is a new pathogen. However, American bioscientists and medical professionals have focused on it with impressive intensity. It is from a family
