The US should tackle coronavirus

China’s stock market is the world’s best performer, thanks in part to massive fiscal stimulus in response to last year’s trade war and this year’s virus epidemic. That’s what governments are supposed to do in response to natural disasters, and the rest of the world should do the same thing. (Snip) With major US equity indices down more than 10% from last week’s record highs, equity markets in the West are sending an economic danger signal. Equity market sectors most exposed to the consequences of the epidemic are the worst performers. Energy and basic industries lead the declines, with 20% declines in airlines, hospitality, oil and gas, and basic materials.

Yeah, yeah, a fiscal stimulus that will kick in about 3 months after the corona virus is determined to be a minor blip on the influenza scene. Trump would then be blamed for the chaos which would ensue.

The market today (and this whole week) is more about correction than covid-19. The market has actually been on fire as of late, so a little pull back and some sell off....that's a good thing. While everyone is panicking and selling....I'm buying.

Let me see if I understand this. The dems want a huge spending bill, which includes sending money to foreign countries to fight this "pandemic crisis". When the massive money laundering operation in Ukraine got pinched, the swamp had to find another way to access their cash (our tax dollars). IF the swamp is in league with China (and there is lots of evidence to support that theory), I'm guessing the vaccine is ready and waiting in the wings, with huge profits in view for all to share.

While it's tempting to think of every epidemic as a unique event, a disruption of 'normal' life which will eventually return to the old routine, professionals know that it part of an endless struggle between humanity and disease, a struggle that has lasted -- and will last -- for as long as the species exists. "Every outbreak provides an opportunity to gain important information, some of which is associated with a limited window of opportunity ... Critical to moving the field forward, even in the context of an outbreak, is ensuring that investigational products are evaluated in scientifically and ethically sound studies."

Chris Matthews, one of the longest-tenured voices at MSNBC, announced his retirement during Monday’s night’s airing of his talk show, “Hardball.” Matthews, 74, said he and MSNBC had mutually agreed to part ways. The decision followed a series of events that resulted in criticism of the host’s statements about Bernie Sanders, African-American lawmakers, and comments he had made to female journalists and coworkers. “I’m retiring,” Matthews said. “This is the last ‘Hardball’ on MSNBC.” Matthews was due to retire in the near future with the events of the past week playing a factor in the timing of the move, an MSNBC spokesperson said.

Bernie Sanders is on the go all the time -- which seems to have given him a momentary case of a campaign brain fart as he accidentally boarded the wrong jet. The Democratic front-runner was spotted Saturday making his way off of a private Gulfstream between campaign stops in South Carolina and Massachusetts -- the latter being where he held a rally at Boston Common ahead of Super Tuesday. Fact is ... the S.C. primary looks like it's gonna go to Joe Biden, as he's well ahead of everyone else in the latest polls. Looks like Bernie's cutting his losses and moving on. As for this little mix-up here, it's kinda funny.

The coronavirus crisis is testing political systems all over the world. In China it is challenging Xi Jin Ping because he 'owns' the system, Melinda Liu writes in Foreign Policy. "The party has something to do with everything in China, especially under Xi Jinping—and suddenly, for Xi, that has become a double-edged sword. As president, party head, and top military commander, Xi has consolidated his authority, centralized decision-making, abolished presidential term limits, and promoted his loyalists. People expect Xi, China’s 'chairman of everything,' to fix everything when it goes wrong." And there's a lot wrong. The virus is devouring the entire Chinese medical system.

New cases of coronavirus in China were running at 5,000 a day only a couple of weeks ago. The count of new cases is down to less than 100 a day, if you believe China's numbers. I don't, but the World Health Organization's declaration yesterday that the epidemic had peaked in China probably is accurate. Just look at the world's stock markets. China's equity indices barely fluttered during the past couple of days while the US and Europe lost 3%-4%. The threat of an epidemic in Italy appears to have pushed markets over the edge. Here's a chart published this morning by the research department at JP Morgan:

Industry and manufacturing are abandoning the country in droves and heading south. Canada is now reaping the whirlwind. The Red-Green Axis consisting of social justice warriors, hereditary band chiefs, renewable energy cronies, cultural Marxists, and their political and media enablers have effectively shut down the
