Democratic presidential front-runner Bernie Sanders likes to market himself as a wise old man who just happens to have clown hair but is right about everything, such as the War in Iraq. Yet his opposition to the Iraq War was dictated not by cool-headed geopolitical calculations, but the lifelong habit of romancing American enemies — as is typical for communism-lovers.
The recently surfaced press conference Sanders gave following his return from his honeymoon in Yaroslavl, USSR, is a great example of leftist naïveté about totalitarian regimes. For Bernie to fawn over Soviet culture the way he did indicates a staggering degree of incuriosity.

The author of the article gives Bernie too much credit for being naive. Bernie truly believes in the old Soviet way, the old Communist Cuba way, the old Ortegan Nicaragua way, the way of Mao. He wants to bring that way to our shores. He has his Red Guard waiting for orders from the old man.

And I was in Managua Nicaragua In the summer of 1985 when Communist Bernie Sanders, then-mayor of Burlington Vermont and and another Communist, Gus Newport, then-mayor of Berkeley California, came to town to kiss the posterior of Communist then-President Danny Ortega (his first reign) on the anniversary of the revolution and both mayors declared in the newspaper the next day that “The Sandinista Revolution was a ‘shining success’.” The Office of Naval Intelligence was very interested in my pictures when I got home.

Many people Bernie's age are selling off cars, houses, furniture, antiques as they downsize or adjust to living on fixed income.
Bernie's been spouting this same nonsense for decades and was regarded as a quirky pet in a zoo. An oddball from a small state where some unreconstructed hippies thought Stalinism was charitable and clever.
In his heart of hearts he doesn't expect to win. If he has any self-awareness at all he knows the DNC will do whatever it takes to hole him below the waterline. But 2016-2020 has been a late-in-life purple patch for Sanders who now sees a fortune rolling in as he approaches age 80. He knows campaign funds are fungible. He knows that he can pay his wife as a 'media consultant' (and already does) despite the fact that her media expertise is limiting to seeing the occasional roadside billboard. He knows that lefty media will look the other way on the even bigger payoff he's likely to get in order to make it more palatable to him.
And if he actually becomes the nominee and gets stomped like Vermont grapes the loser's speaking circuit and Clinton/Obamaesque fees await. He can still pull his indignant act and claim to be an author or speaker when someone rightly points out his version of capitalism.

I visited distant relatives in Lithuania in 1995, five years after the collapse of the USSR. One of them explained the difference between communism and the emerging capitalism in their country: "With capitalism, if you don't work you get nothing. With communism if you work and work and work, you don't get anything." She grew up and had a family in the Soviet occupation era... she saw the difference.

Hey Bernie
The jungle has a way of compensating for its own evolutionary mistakes. When an old , toothless lion forgets or overlooks its own deficiencies and attacks a young elephant member of the herd, the bull gores the defenseless cat, slings it with its trunk, and then the herd tramples it to death.
Lions, being predators, do not learn with age the devastating outcomes of overreach.
The parallels in human life are many. With lions, it's in their DNA, with humans , it's vanity.

a woman co worker grew up is SU. Her parents brought her here after wall came down. She says Americans have no idea how "horrible" life is in Russia. Putin is a "Tsar" and the people have nothing. Her mother wants to go back b/c of relatives, but co-worker says to her "are you crazy?". She said Americans don't realize 'how good we have it".

FTA - the last paragraph, "After moving to the United States, I no longer believe Bernie-types to be well-intentioned. Regardless, the man who could be led astray that easily should never be the president of the United States".
What more do we need to know about Gramps. And interesting that even Obie is not supporting Gramps. Not openly, anyway.

Let me guess... Bernie loves the communist loving music of Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie, Sr. too?
Communism is humanism writ large. In that system they deny God and make the state into god. Communism no matter where it is practiced has resulted in more genocide than any other "religious system" to ever exist. Mao and Josef were masters of murder, killing over 80 million of their own people. Today's youth are being lured into the money trap known as communism because so few alive today remember the Soviet Union and the horrific stories of want and despair inside the Iron Curtain. Ironically, the Soviets built a wall to "keep the West out" which was OK with Bernie, but now he's against a wall along our southern border for the exact same reason.
My prediction, were he to win the nomination, is he will suffer a massive coronary on stage in the first debate with President Trump. The old "pinko" is a ticking time bomb.

The key word in the headline is "visited". I can speak with first-hand certainty that anyone who has actually lived in the former USSR couldn't possibly utter the absurd characterizations that Sanders and his wife continue to spout about it. And it's definitely not just "naive". One has to be a true believer to continue spouting such blatantly big lies.
I'm thinking of starting a movement of former inhabitants/escapees from socialist/communist countries called #askmeabout socialism and having members speaking at every campus in the US. The brainwashed millennials need a REAL education. And we're exactly the people who can give it to them. (Also, Antifa better stay the heck away from us because we'll give them an education they'll never forget too.)

We all knew at least one like Bernie in college. Scraggly hair and beard, stained anti-war or Che T-shirt, know-it-all dumbass always preaching about something. If he did manage to graduate, he became a teacher or some kind of tree-hugging activist. Apparently our society has been dumbed down enough that a creature of Bernie's species is now accepted as a wise man. We are better than that.

I think poster #10 has a wonderful idea. It's about time that we hear more from those who have actually lived under the yolk of Communism. It would also be nice to hear MORE (some are speaking up) from countries like Sweden, Denmark, Norway et al, identified by Bernie as wonderful examples of Democratic Socialism---they totally disagree as to that designation and consider themselves capitalists par excellence.

If you want to know what Bernie refuses to believe, read about the Holodomor. Mothers deciding which child gets to eat, and thus live, for another day. Death by intentional starvation, that was the reality of Stalin. They don't even know how many Ukrainians he butchered by forced starvation but it was millions.
Communism made millions of corpses. That is its most popular products actually. Communism has made and continues to make millions of Christian martyrs. Bernie and his stupid communist utopian lies needs to be destroyed one last once and for all, for the sake of the world.

The old communist crudmugeon, Sanders, knows he can't win against the Godzilla President Trump. Bernie is in his twilight years and riding the wave sowing and reaping the rewards of his madness. He believes in himself along with Jane but his followers are only there for his rhetoric of everything for free. Bernie is playing out his communist love in a capitalist nation and having fun. Bernie is waiting for Bloomberg to reward him with another house to buy him out like Hillary Clinton gave him a 'fishing camp' on Lake Champlain.
Bernie sees himself when he's on a debate stage like he's standing next to Lenin in the Moscow square in 1917 rabble rousing the Bolsheviks into revolution. When Bernie is at home, in one of his three mansions, he probably watches Dr. Zhivago over and over like he's running the countryside in a black locomotive displaying red with yellow star flags on the front.
Bernie Sanders is serious but he has no intentions of helping anyone but himself his followers will receive nothing but a puppet show in the end. Bernie Sanders supporters are what Stalin called 'useful idiots' Bernie knows this too.

I read there were many non-citizens / immigrants who voted for Bernie. Most employees who work on the strip are immigrants with green cards or illegals.
If you look at the crowds of people around Bernie most are in their late teens to early twenties and have not had the experience of paying federal income taxes. Moreover, many have accumulated massive college loan debt.
This is what happens to a country who doesn't teach young minds history and instill national pride.

In the mid 1980s I worked with a young Jewish woman who had emigrated from the USSR with her parents in the 1970s. I still remember her stories of deprivation in the USSR and how her parents were denied certain jobs and housing because their identification papers showed they were Jewish yet they were not allowed to practice their faith. And I remember her pride the day she became a US citizen and how strongly she'd defend America. I wish Bernie-bots could spend time with women like her.

In 1984 (yes, that's right; 1984!) I had two Polish political refugees working for me on a landscape project. One spoke pretty good English, his buddy, no. They escaped by swimming across the Oder River, and gained asylum in Germany. I don't remember how they traveled to the U.S. They had nothing good to say about living under Communism. No respect for Gorbachev. They were blown away seeing how many cars there were in this country. While working with me, they didn't complain about their inadequate protection against the cold weather, but this "capitalist pig" bought them jackets anyway. They were very grateful. Communism is the scourge of mankind!

I have heard that Bernie was a senior member in the American Communist Party for awhile. He is basically a communist as his ideals have shown that. Free medical care, free college, free everything, is the communist manifesto. Work for every person in the country. From those the ability, to those in need. The problem comes when those with ability can only earn a minimum wage because their skill level and knowledge limits their income. The need is not defined as to what need really is and who determines or defines need. The socialist of democrats system does not work as shown by how quickly Venezuela fell into despair when the government took over all business, including the oil industry. California is headed in the same direction down hill.

They are already putting out fake polls showing that, even in Texas, that Bernie Sanders is going to defeat President Trump in the General Election. Just think, after that there will be no guns in Texas and everything will be “free” as Bernie has said so!

My church has a sister church in Cuba. Their pastor was allowed a visit to Florida on a religious visa. He was taken to a Publix and was stricken to tears. He asked how many times a month could we buy milk. When he was told "whenever and as often as we want" he literally started crying.
