Tom Bennell’s olive oil distribution business took a heavy beating during months of pro-democracy protests that emptied Hong Kong hotels and restaurants, his major customers. Now he fears a knockout blow as the city fights the coronavirus. The two-decade-old Olives and Oils supplies more than 20 five-star hotels, as well as clubs, delis and restaurants in Chinese-ruled Hong Kong, where retail and tourism act like balance wheels for an economy running on trade and finance.

How long can the virus be "bottled up"? We may be dealing with a similar knock out of business in the U.S.if the virus takes hold here.

Agree OP, but only if we're talking about businesses run by East Asians for it appears the virus (like SARS before it) is racist - it's only killing East Asians. See this article: https://www.unz.com/article/still-no-non-east-asian-deaths-from-corona-but-cnns-sanjay-gupta-wont-admit-it/

Ask yourself who benefits when the economy of Hong Kong goes down the tube? The Communist regime on the mainland would now be able to grab this wayward child by the nap of the neck and finally bring it into the fold. Something they have been trying to do for years and have failed. Since the so called outbreak of this virus the pro-democracy protests have been brought to a screeching halt. The rulers of China have absolutely no worry about 10k-20k people losing their lives over a virus and would have no loss of sleep over that to use the outbreak to bring about an end to this thorn in their sides.

What piffle! This epidemic will burn itself out by end of March, latest, and those energetic and entrepreneurial Hong Kongers will go right back to business. And the smart ones will pick up bargains.

It’s not a safe place to express differences.”

Tucker Carlson of Fox News was not among those celebrating the end of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani’s reign of terror around the globe. On Friday’s show, Carlson blasted Washington “neocons” for wanting to go to war. “Chest beaters like Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska are making the usual warlike noises like they always make,” he said. By all accounts, Soleimani was the world’s most dangerous terrorist, responsible for the deaths of thousands. The number of people shedding tears for the leader of Iran’s infamous Quds Force is very limited, and most assuredly, Carlson was not mourning Soleimani’s death.

On Oct. 16, 1919, Adolf Hitler became a propagandist. It would be his chief occupation for the rest of his life. Without propaganda, he could never have become a public figure, let alone risen to power. It was as a propagandist that he made a second world war possible, and defined Jews as Germany’s foe. The form of his propaganda was inextricable from its content: the fictionalization of a globalized world into simple slogans

The Democratic Party’s establishment might well succeed in making Michael Bloomberg president of the United States—not on Election Night 2020, however. But it could happen if a third party were to win some electoral votes and, with no candidate receiving a majority of them, the House of Representatives was called upon to choose between the top-two electoral vote-getters. Today’s civil war within the Democratic Party makes it possible that two candidates will come from it: Bernie Sanders for the Woke Left, and Bloomberg for the establishment. In that case, enough establishment Republicans in the House might join their establishment Democratic colleagues to defeat Trump. This would realign U.S. politics:
