On a rainy evening at Mount Vernon, Doris Kearns Goodwin tiptoed around a puddle reflecting light from a colonial lantern and stepped into a golf cart. It shuttled her down a gravel path to the premiere of “Washington,” a miniseries she produced for the History Channel that previewed last week at George Washington’s estate. It is airing on television over Presidents’ Day weekend. Goodwin is a celebrity in the field of presidential historians. Her tome “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” became the basis for the Oscar-winning film “Lincoln,” and her biography

Why is Bill Clinton in this first show as a commenter that aired last night - to salvage his name after the Epstein and Hilary crimes? She is a partisan historian, biased and the show is reflecting it.

Nothing really new in this production that anyone who studied Washington to any extent already would know. What really frosted my cookies was using the draft dodging scoundrel Bill Clinton as a commentator. Washington would have had a guy who lied his way out of military service and then went to a foreign country to protest his homeland HANGED......which is EXACTLY what Clinton did. Then there was a reference about Washington being similar to 0bama because they were both raised by their mothers, of course failing to point out that Washington’s father died whereas 0bana’s father was a drunken pseudo-intellectual bum who abandoned his kids. Cut me a break, Doris.

Really don't need a liberal plaigarist 'helping out' here. Plenty of great books on GW - Joseph Ellis, Ron Chernow, David McCullough and of course the series by Douglas Southall Freeman - out of print but you can find on reserve at most public libraries (in red states and cities).

To # 5 she may not have slept with him but she did worship at his feet in the years before he died and thinks that everything he did was just wonderful. In an interview she spews all he did with welfare and civil rights and medicare and all those great society programs which we now know were great failures and just took time to eat at our foundations as a society of free men, she is a leftist historian so I take everything she writes with a very large grain if not a shaker full of salt.

First of all, Bill Clinton is NOT a historian. His comments were more along the lines of comedy relief. Bill does not belong in a discussion of George Washington. He may have been elected to his chair, but that's it. The liberal bias in the show was very easy to see. Comparing Obama to George, what a bias! Come on Doris, you can do better than that! Also, there was too much made about slavery. As usual, the liberals want to paint everyone in the 1700s as a racist based on 21st century values. The problem here is the public gets it. The public puts George and his brethren in the right frame. George is the Father of his Country. He is the General of all the Armies. Remember, Congress promoted George to be of higher rank than any other General or person in the United States until the end of time! Celebrate the life and sacrifice of George Washington. Don't dwell in the cesspool of liberal bias.

Yeah, then was just like now, right? When George Washington discovered the British had infiltrated his elite unit charged with protecting him, his 'lifeguards' or the equivalent of today's Secret Service, he HUNG them. Making sure a crowd of 20,000 witnessed the event. 20,000 in Colonial times was a gigantic crowd. He also led a force of 13,000 troops out of Philadelphia to put down the Whiskey Rebellion in western PA. When the leaders were arrested before the main force got there, he returned to Philly, but told the commanding officer to march them by foot from Berlin, PA to Philly with swords drawn and if they tried to escape, 'behead them.' Goofy liberal 'historians' like Goodwin dare to compare GW to the scum of today. Keeping the above facts in mind, imagine what George would have done to either Clinton or BO. To equate them is evil insanity.

One more thought. I actually learned more about the early days of Washington by watching a show regarding The Spencer estate in England than I would from a partisan like Kearns. It seems that in the history of the Spencer holdings, Washington and his family were tenants of the Spencers. The Spencer home even has a trunk from the Washington family as one of its treasured antiques. And yes, it is THAT Spencer. Diana and her family have ties with many of our founders.

Former president Donald Trump emerged from 38 days of self-enforced silence for a lengthy speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, that was frequently interrupted with boisterous applause and chants from an adoring, mostly white and older crowd. He was spot-on in his indictment of the five-week-old Biden administration, accusing the new president of lying about his "radical far-left" agenda during the campaign. Predictably, he also slammed the "fake news" for what he said was their assistance in covering up that agenda.

After weeks of being holed up inside, hundreds of millions of Americans eagerly await guidance from their governors and the Trump administration on when they can return to work. Unfortunately, a vaccine appears too far off to serve as a prerequisite for reopening the economy. This has prompted officials to call for extensive national testing efforts to identify individuals free of coronavirus. But these efforts require Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of rapid at-home testing, and the agency appears to be dragging its feet. Now more than ever, Americans need a responsive FDA that puts patients’ lives over half-measures and unnecessary risk aversion.

President Trump clearly overstated the case when he asserted that the president’s authority in the current crisis is “total.” The fact is that the Constitution doesn’t grant total authority to any branch of the government. It looks, though, at least to us, as if Mr. Trump was set off by news that some states were entering into regional pacts to plan the reopening of their economies. If that is what set Mr. Trump off, it’s easy to see why. Mr. Trump and all other officers and legislators and judges of the federal and state governments are bound by oath to the Constitution.
