A Trump-Bernie Brawl

Bernie Sanders is making a lot of Democrats nervous. Every day brings fresh warnings about the perils of pitting a soft socialist palooka like Sanders against a battle-scarred capitalist brawler like the President. Veteran pugilists like James Carville know Sanders has never been in the ring with anyone who fights like Trump. They know he has never taken any real punches during any of his previous political campaigns or from his current competitors for the Democratic presidential nomination. Consequently, these professionals justifiably fear that the Vermont Senator won’t be ready for the haymakers that Trump is preparing for him pursuant to his proud devotion to “democratic socialism.”

A very naive article that suggests that a huge Sanders loss would send the socialist radicals scurrying to the dark corners. Has he seen the O’Keefe videos? These lunatics have made a religion out of overturning capitalism and starting a violent revolution. They are stupid and dangerous and they aren’t going anywhere.

"Democratic Socialism" is just another term for an extended version of LBJ's Great Society. Anybody who has read the Bernie chapter in Schweizer's book knows that both Bernie and his wife are a couple of old hippies who have stolen every penny they ever accumulated. Bernie has yet to explain how his multi-trillion dollar giveaways are not going to turn America into a 1930s version of the USSR, of how the theft of wealth of producers will greatly reduce the total output of those producers to the level that everybody is poor and miserable except for the ruling elite, which Bernie imagines he will be. Fortunately for him he will not live long enough to reap the real fruits of his old, failed ideas. Donald Trump will expose this charlatan for what he really is.

A Trump-Bernie brawl is exactly what "moderates" want. Watch for this coming attraction: A "moderate", likely bi-partisan, third party ticket headed by Mitt Romney. It's goal will be to at least siphon off "moderate Republican" voters, or gain the votes of those who would otherwise sit out. The UNIPARTY isn't going to just sit and watch as their piggy banks burn.

But # 4, what would be in that for Romney, whatever the election outcome? A few months of fawning media coverage and then what? His name would be [bleep] forever after.

Once A Curiosity, Trump Rallies
Are Now Joyous Celebrations

Four years ago, I walked in from a freezing New Hampshire blizzard into my first Donald Trump for president rally. We knew a few things — at least we thought we did. At the time he wasn’t just a long shot, he was frankly an impossibility. The event felt less like a campaign rally and more like a curiosity. It’s not a curiosity anymore. Monday night’s rally was a celebration, and unlike any any political event I’ve ever experienced.I arrived at about noon for the 7 p.m. shindig. In a driving and freezing rain, the line outside seemed to stretch to Massachusetts. A jubilant crowd was hooting and hollering holy h--l.

This political maxim remains and is made manifest in recent events: The Left ascribes its sins unto its victims. The recent resignations of four Department of Justice prosecutors, because their wholly disproportionate, excessive, and—yes—political sentencing recommendation of seven to nine years in prison for nonviolent offender Roger Stone was countermanded by their superiors in the department, is a case in point. While Stone was convicted of process crimes of making false statements and witness tampering (unrelated to any actual underlying crime), make no mistake, this near miscarriage of justice by some of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s “dream teamers” wasn’t blind:

The media frets constantly that President Donald Trump’s rhetoric will lead to violence against Democrats and even — the horror! — journalists. But the same media is curiously silent when Republicans become the targets of hate. On Saturday, for instance, a Florida man drove his van through a Trump campaign volunteer tent because, as he told police, ‘someone had to take a stand’. The incident started when the man drove his van slowly up to the tent, according to a police report. Two volunteers approached the man’s van to chat with him when ‘the vehicle accelerated towards them and the tent.’ ‘Both victims had to move out of the way quickly

Bernie Sanders won the New Hampshire primary Tuesday night. Second-place finisher Pete Buttigieg earned 24.4 percent of the vote, while Amy Klobuchar, not long ago polling in single digits, came out of nowhere with 19.8 percent, a classic New Hampshire outlier result. The words “eked” and “narrowly” are getting a workout in headlines today. There is a Yeah, but… passage in nearly every major media write-up of Bernie’s win. “Sanders cements his front-runner status, but his narrow margins… show how volatile this race is,” is how The New York Times put it. In reality, the results for Sanders cut both ways.

I cannot think of any politician, thinker or novelist who has sent so much comfort and aspiration to so many people It is very difficult to believe that there is anyone, except the young, who has not experienced serious illness or been witness to the suffering of a loved one. It is, alas, part of the human condition. Those who have endured such moments do not need to hear what they are like or how profoundly unsettling and painful they are. We suffer most when those who are closest to us suffer.

Early on the morning of Bernie Sanders’ expected victory in the New Hampshire primary, President Trump was already focused on a newer Democratic threat looming large on the electoral horizon. Billionaire Michael Bloomberg is a “total racist,” Trump said in a tweet, referring to newly leaked audio of comments the former New York mayor made in 2015, when he unflinchingly defended the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk policy during his time leading the city, a policy for which he has since apologized. In the edited clip, Bloomberg can be heard saying that “the way you get guns out of the kids’ hands is to throw them up against the wall and frisk them.”

Unlike Gaul, the Democratic primary electorate is divided into only two parts. Bernie Sanders's victory in Tuesday's New Hampshire primary reminded observers of what we have known for a long time, namely that the smaller of these two parts remains united in favor of his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. The larger moderate one remains split, not quite evenly, between Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, and Joe Biden. We know which side the Democratic National Committee, the party's leadership in Congress, wealthy mega-donors, and luminaries like the Obamas and the Clintons are on.

At the New Hampshire 2020 Democratic presidential primary debate on Friday, Democrats failed when questioned on whether they would have authorized the U.S. military strike which killed Qassem Soleimani. Soleimani, commander of the covert action arm of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed in a January U.S. drone strike in Baghdad. President Trump authorized that strike in response to Soleimani's effort to organize attacks on U.S. interests in Iraq and the broader Middle East, and in the context of the Iranian general's historic role in killing hundreds of U.S. soldiers during the Iraq War. But as I say, Democrats were unconvincing. Pete Buttigieg was first to respond, and he offered platitudes.

I grew up in Minnesota, the heart of the Midwest: a blue state of really nice, hard-working people who love winter, lefse, and Al Franken. Starting at about 13 years old until college, I worked for my dad, a successful remodeling contractor, over school breaks. I hated the work. Often the only female on a construction site or a hotel in the midst of remodeling, I felt awkward. I got dirty. I wasn’t good at painting or wallpapering. The hours were longer than anything I’d ever experienced, and we rarely ate out during the day. (Somehow cold granola bars just added to the laboriousness.) I know, I sound like a wimp.

Has anyone else noticed the similarities between Adam Schiff and Richard Milhous Nixon, our amoral 37th president of the United States? Let’s start with that amorality. Both men showed a willingness to say or do anything in order to achieve their goals – step over any body, tell any lie — and their goals were also the same: to achieve personal political power at any cost. More about that later, but we might take a moment to notice the more superficial similarities between the two politicians, and I’m not talking about their peculiar facial features — Nixon’s jowly face with its ski-slope nose or Schiff’s thin neck and bug eyes
Why Democratic Enthusiasm Is Down 7 replies

The overarching Democratic strategy for winning the 2020 general election is based on the assumption that outrage over President Trump’s personality and policies will motivate their rank-and-file voters to turn out in record numbers to defeat him. If Iowa was a portent of things to come, and it usually is for the party of Jefferson and Jackson, this “anyone but Trump” plan will fail. Many questions remain about how those caucuses were so comically mismanaged, but one fact is indisputable. The Democrats hoped for an Iowa turnout comparable to the 2008 record of 240,000 but fell short of that goal by 28 percent. Why aren’t their voters more motivated?

Former New York City Mayor and Democratic candidate Bloomberg is said to be considering even changing his official residence from New York to Colorado or Florida - where he also has homes - because the electoral college makes it difficult for US president and vice-president to reside in the same state.

The tweet was quickly deleted after users criticized the agency for celebrating a white man during Black History Month, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Sen. (Tweet) “I think that when you look at a state like this state, and a country like ours that is so diverse, you don’t want to have that provision in law because then it would be very difficult to have, say, government documents and other things translated into other languages,” she said at a campaign event in Las Vegas on Friday, according to The Associated Press.

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) issued a scathing denunciation of the mainstream media on Friday, accusing several outlets of ignoring her campaign in favor of lesser candidates and blaming that coverage in part for her campaign's failure to gain traction with primary voters. In an email to supporters on Friday, Warren's campaign said it could no longer "count on the media to cover our campaign fairly." It argued that other candidates, such as former vice president Joe Biden, received more coverage despite posting less impressive results in early primary states.

Now that as many as six serious Democratic candidates remain in the race, pundits increasingly believe the party is headed for a brokered convention. Hold on to your hats if that happens, because it’s even more complicated than it sounds. Presidential nominating conventions used to be “brokered” because the delegates were largely appointed by — and loyal to — political bosses. Delegates voted on multiple ballots as rivals vied for the bosses’ favor, making the quadrennial events the political equivalent of reality television. You could never be sure which governor or senator would be voted off the island and which would become the ultimate survivor.

The Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act is not about restricting abortions but about giving newborns a chance to survive no matter where they are born, said Sen. Ben Sasse, the bill’s lead co-sponsor, at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday. During the hearing, called “The Infant Patient: Ensuring Appropriate Medical Care for Children Born Alive,” Republican senators questioned why a baby born in a hospital should be treated differently than a baby born in an abortion facility. Democrats, lacking an answer, changed the subject. Thirteen committee senators heard from five female witnesses, three who shared powerful testimony and two who expressed concerns about the bill.

At the time, Bloomberg unconvincingly bragged that President Trump is scared of running against him. “Mini-Mike”– who looked so nervous that he’d worry the warts off a frog — made the claims while speaking to the Harris County Democratic Party. Bloomberg awkwardly stammered as he read off the teleprompter: “Now if I were from Texas, I might say Donald Trump is scared as a cat at the dog pound.
