OK, Boomer — that’s “fundamentally offensive.” The University of Oklahoma is denouncing a professor who compared the popular ageist catchphrase to the “N-word” during a senior journalism class. Peter Gade, director of graduate studies at the university’s Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, used the racial slur during a class Tuesday while comparing it to the trendy “OK, Boomer” putdown — claiming the phrase was equally offensive, according to a statement released by interim president Joseph Harroz Jr.

...the Prof is white..and over 30...therefore, he CANNOT possibly be offended...he deserves whatever insults he gets ...from the chronically offended and enlightened snowflakes...

In this era of identity importance everyone should have the equal opportunity to claim victim status. Poor, poor, Boomers.

I refuse to be offended by skinny jeans-clad soy boys who think playing a video game is more fun than we had watching a man land on the moon. Embrace the boomer!
I do point out from time to time that it is a lazy canned response, unworthy of a serious debater. If some snotty-nosed kid thinks hurling an "OK, Boomer" will silence me, he will always be disappointed.

It was so much better when we just said not to trust people over 30.
Right?

I agree OP, but I like your gumption #3. If you can't remember JFK's assassination you aren't a Boomer, but I keep getting lumped in with Boomers.

I'm a boomer - I don't really care, and our generation should know better than to act like professional offense-taking snowflakes. The generational thing is as old as the human race. That's why "honor thy father and mother" was included in the 10 commandments.

So if you flash the "okay" hand sign when you say "Okay, Boomer," does that make it okay?
The Babylon Bee or the People's Cube should have an article about this any day now! (Eye roll!)

If someone said O.K. boomer to me, I'd tell them to go eat a tidepod.

If one is comfortable in his own skin NOTHING is offensive but don't mistake an answering smile as compliance with stupidity. If a professor thinks that the discussion of racial and time or place of origin slurs is beneficial, he is wasting students' time. The degree of offense can not be measured except by the target of the slur. Since this was a journalism class, the subject matter is not surprising.

I just thought "OK, Boomer" meant "I am a stupid braindead classless nitwit". Does it have another meaning?

I don’t really give a rat’s patootie. I am actually too old to be a boomer (‘42). I still remember Reagan’s great quip during the debate with Mondale when he said he wouldn’t bring up Mondale’s youth and inexperience.

My reply to "OK Boomer" is "Whatever, millennial." Then I tell them to get off my lawn.

I do believe that "You lying dog face pony soldier" is the popular hip new comeback that is being recommended for Boomers receiving that insult.
I do believe I even heard it the other day. When I heard it I thought "wow, guy is sharp. that's the first thing that came to my mind too!"

Excuse me, shouldn't that be comparing the O-word to the N-word? I'm offended.

If I thought this was meant as an insult, I'd laugh and reply something like, "Ok, yourself, jerk", or maybe something more colorful. As far as being upset by it.....not significantly. My wife and friends all call ourselves boomers, not exactly a shocking name, or anything new.
Is this the best you got, punk?

Don't trust anybody over 30...who still lives with his parents...
Surprised this happened at OU in Norman. You'd think any millennial 'calling out' a Boomer with this faux-insult would immediately get a "SOONER!" reply. This prof obviously isn't a native...

I gotta admit I kinda agree with him to some degree. It is an offensive and deeply disrespectful expression by characteristically obnoxious millennials.
