Bats, rats and snakes are still flying off the shelves at an Indonesian market known for its wildlife offerings despite a government request to take them off the menu over coronavirus fears. Vendors at the Tomohon Extreme Meat market on Sulawesi island say business is booming and curious tourists keep arriving to check out the exotic meats.
Bat seller Stenly Timbuleng boasted at his stall in Tomohon that 'sales continue... it is always sold out.' Scientists believe the deadly new virus emerged in a market selling wild animals in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and there is suspicion it could

Personally, I find it suspicious that they’re trying to blame a “natural” source for the virus while ignoring the Wuhan research connection. I could be wrong, but I just find it suspicious.

So the next time you decide to order a $1500 appetizer, maybe you ought to go for a Caesar Salad minus the raw egg.

Forgive my ignorance but wouldn't the virus be killed off by cooking?

#10, viruses aren't alive. Basically they are a collection of chemicals which can link to a human or bacterial cell wall, and then penetrate the cell wall. Once inside a living cell. they have chemical "instructions" on how to replicate themselves, and they take over, replicate using the cellular machinery. Viruses have no way of replication by themselves.
This is why bits of computer code which are sent out to "infect" a computer, and take it over to make it do something that it wouldn't ordinarily do are called " computer viruses", it is an excellent analogy to the biological virus which is basically instructions to "make more viruses".
Heat may or may not destroy the virus, depending on the exact type. Most common influenza viruses are reportedly destroyed (not alive, so can't be "killed" - more like broken down) by temps near the boiling point of water. So, cooking SHOULD destroy it. But after cooking, poor sanitation can reinfect any food, so this isn't necessarily a proof of safety, especially in medieval, highly unsanitary conditions like you find in much of China.
But there are bacteria and algae which live in VERY high temperatures in hot springs, and which have evolved various specialized enzymes and such to let life processes function when most of the chemicals of life processes would normally break down due to the heat. Certain enzymes from these thermophilic bacteria are critical for use in DNA replication and DNA testing.
It seems to be possible that there may be some viruses somewhere which can also withstand high temperatures. But, current information on influenza viruses indicates that they are not capable of withstanding high temps.

It isn't the bats....There is a reason why the ChiComs don't want to let US officials to help. An angry Commie Chink bio-weapons scientist got mad because some high ranking commie pig bureaucrat stole his hot big Breasted girl friend from him. The Chink exposed a bunch of people and here we are... I would put all your money on this scenario ... its how the commies roll. There godless moral less commies, there isn't a union there isn't a complaint dept there is noway to go except for REVENGE. I'll show you!

There’s a reason we call it the Third World.
BTW, #13, I’ve thought about that too. Maybe it’s because The Stand by (unfortunately) Steven King is one of my favorite books.
