Actor Joaquin Phoenix gave a bizarre leftist speech as he accepted an award at the Oscars for his role in the movie “Joker,” suggesting that humans use the resources that cows provide because humans believe that they are superior to cows.“I’ve been thinking a lot about some of the distressing issues that we are facing collectively, and I think at times we feel or are made to feel that we champion different causes,” Phoenix said. “But for me, I see commonality. I think whether we’re talking about gender inequality or racism or queer rights or indigenous rights or animal rights,

The God of Creation gave man the responsibility of dominion over the earth. We were tasked with using everything on this earth with the end result of providing ourselves a good life. We were not to exploit it but to use it to our best advantage. While man clearly has done much to destroy its beauty and usefulness, nevertheless it is our specific direction that we live, maintain and use this home we have been given. God did not intend for us to be equal with animals but to have dominion over them. The progressive thought that believes we are all equal, is poppycock. We are to be wise stewards which I will admit we have not always been, but to believe we are equal defies God’s intended plan.

Phoenix is a wonderful actor, and his diatribe, however expected, was well meaning and probably has many who relate to it. I just don't need to hear it in an acceptance speech, however sincere. Brad Pitt and his John Bolton comments were not expected but I can't be too surprised, and am glad, still, that he won. THE most egregious moment of the night for me, however, was the Best Picture award, not only a predictable p.c. choice and knocking out "1917" and others, but Hanoi Jane giving out the award to massive audience applause. That rips it for me. Hollywood could do nothing else that would be so much a slap in the Face than celebrate the woman who, without ever really apologizing, gave the notes desperate POW's slipped to her to their VietCong captors, with horrendous results. Now she flies private to preach Global Warming and get arrested, to cheers and hurrahs by this same crowd, many of whom also flew private to get to the awards, then dug out their Tesla's and appeared at the Ceremony. Jane Fonda does it for me. I don't need to celebrate these people, no matter how talented.

Wonder who wrote his speech. You know he didn't write it; he can't write; he can only spout what others have written. His brother died of a drug overdose at a very young age, yet he doesn't ever condemn drugs. The character he portrays is an evil character. Half of the audience last night are either alcoholics or druggies. The women were half naked. I did not watch long. It was boring and predictable kind of like a re-run.

Domestication of animals and plants was the engine that created civilization. The earliest form of genetic modification, still in use today is cross-breeding plants and animals to assure better yields and less crop destruction by drought or pests.
Even the sustenance your cook secures for you at Whole Foods is the result of this form of agriculture. Unless your plan is to head into the mountains and deserts of California to secure wild plants and animals for dinner, (Where you and your followers would strip the land bare), enjoy the fruits of advanced civilization that a reliable source of nutrition that has been provided for you, and go back to yourworld of make-believe for cash.

Imagine if someone winning an Oscar (or any award really) --- just once --- got up and said something this passionate about what a horrible experience abortion is on the unborn and "killing a live baby" after ripping it from his/her mother's womb. Never happen --- but he weeps for one of man's greatest food sources. Millions of human lives are dependent on cows and their by-products.
This is the kind of stupid and illogical junk you can expect when men play God.

The Oscars or any award show is not the place to discuss anything other than thanking the Academy, etc. Having dominion over the animals does not mean we should be unnecessarily cruel. Do we really want to be like the Chinese with horrific wild and wet animal markets? The male calves that are born on dairy farms have no value and are then shipped off to become veal calves or they are abandoned to die. The abuse of pregnant mares for premarin is horrible. Women survived menopause long before hormone replacements. I did and everyone else can.
And again, one can be opposed to abortion and the mistreatment of animals.

That's the problem with too many actors. They play the part of an important or consequential person so often, that they begin to believe that they are just as important or consequential. They have taken Descartes's quote "I think, therefor I am" and turned it into "I pretend, therefor I am". Unfortunately, too many people in the public enable this delusion.

What the Vegans don't realize is that many animals exist only to serve as a means of nourishment. They serve no purpose other than that, and to outlaw that usage means their extinction. Vegans also ignore the fact that most animals in the wild live shorter lives, on average, than the domesticated ones. Nature is very cruel, hardly the rainbows and unicorns that they imagine.

He should never be permitted to read or recite anything he has written himself. Let the thinkers think, the writers write, and the actors act. And let the cows give us milk. A naturally ordered world he can happily live in, if he doesn't start thinking about it again. Stop that thinking! Not your area of expertise.

The depths of his ignorance and silliness will never be plumbed. All of the string or wire made since the dawn of time would barely reach the tippy-tippy-top of his foolishness. Now we know why inns and rooming houses refused to allow strolling players to sleep there. Good Gawd, man, how many cows would there be if we didn't like steak and milk?

I guess they forget about the part where God created all that stuff for humans to use to sustain themselves. Yes, we are superior to cows, because cows don't qualify for the Lord's grace and salvation, but humans certainly do.
Capote was right about the best of the best actors and their intellect. It isn't just that they are dumb, but most of them don't have their own real individual personality/ego, which allows them to shed their own selves and adopt a character as if it were real. Kind of like a second skin if you will. That is how so many of them create such memorable characters, like Peter Sellers did in the Pink Panther movies. He said once that he always felt he had no personality of his own, that he was invisible. So the inspector was very real to him.
DeNiro is an outlier, because I believe that is his real and very angry self on the screen. He cannot separate reality from pretend so Taxi Driver/Cape Fear was the real DeNiro IMO, not an act. Mr. Phoenix proves that most of the actors cannot think on their own and are totally lost without their movie scripts.

Two things will cause a farmer to separate a newborn calf from its mother - it is dead or she rejected it. Dairy cows need to be pregnant in order to produce enough milk (or so says those on Nat'l Geo and Animal Planet) to help the farm's profitability. I wonder what dairy product or other, Joaquin favors as his ice cream base. What does he use as a cheese substitute?

#36, the dairy industry is certainly changing, but I would not call the retraction from over-expansion, 'dying.' The small family farm was largely replaced in many areas by huge farming factories. You could say the farm with a herd of less than 100 died, but a sweeping generalization that it should all go away because some temporary fad of vegan vegan declares in invalid, is a bit much. No one 'needs' milk, but replacing butter with margarine is a bad, unappetizing and unhealthy alternative. Soy ice cream sucks, but you could try and ban ice cream. Maybe everyone should eat and drink nothing but goat dairy, except you are back to the domesticated animal thing. Your ONLY alternative is fake food derived from heavily modified plant materials or some sort of lab grown subsistence. I guess you could build off a base of insects, but again there is so much processing needed and you still end up with an inferior food.
The march to higher production at all costs has gone too far for many, even in the dairy industry, but you can't have a nonstarving population existing on foraging and if you eliminate the pigs, sheep, goats, chickens and cows from the world, no living animal will be safe anywhere. Sort of like the 3rd world now. Oh, and get rid of that PET you have as well.

Excellent post at #14. The actors do have a right to their opinions, but it would be nice if they just expressed their thanks at the awards shows. Having Jane Fonda hand out the last award was a slap in the face. No wonder people care less and less about these shows and Hollywood in general. I doubt they’ll ever wake up.
