New York — The book world is facing another embarrassing moment over diversity. Classic books were expected to get new, diverse covers for Black History Month, but that has been suspended following social media backlash. Barnes and Noble and publisher Penguin Random House partnered for a joint project called the “Diverse Editions” collection. Classic books, including “Alice in Wonderland,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Moby Dick,” and “Frankenstein” would have featured ethnically diverse protagonists on their covers. The words are the same, but the covers would have been different. One cover of "The Wizard of Oz" shows Dorothy as an African American girl with her hair in puffs

Does this mean that "The Color Purple" can have white people on the cover? Fair? is fair.

So a picture of Oprah on the cover of Moby DIck (the great white whale) would have prevented the social media backlash ?

So you're saying it's OK to dig up a black corpse, put pieces/parts together, and then reanimate him? Isn't that racist?

Yes, ok, #3, kind of the point of Jordan Peele's Oscar winning effort with "Get Out".

The educated elites of the publishing world forget one basic fact, those people don't read.

I would have enjoyed Gone with the Wind with the plantation owners black and the slaves white. Moby Dick the Great Black whale. Robin Hood and his gay men as a ghetto gang. Snow White as soot black.

All books are not about black people and they shouldn’t be. This cheesy stunt was condescending to minorities and disrespectful to the authors of these books be they dead or alive.

I had a great time the other night at Walmart, passing through the book section. Saw Michelle's book with her smirking on the cover, so turned it backwards and put it back in front of the other. Worth the trip there and back.

The Corona virus may be coming, but the Politically-Correct-Virus is already destroying America ... when saying "All Lives Matter" can come under deranged Progressive criticism, you know that P-C-V victims are succumbing. Play TAPS for the United States, comrade, while demented Nancy rips up the constitution.
And don't WORRY, Just Feel the Bern.

Why just change the color of the person? It today's ''woke'' culture the sex and ethnicity are all up for grabs. Before you know it Frankenstein will be Francinenstein with an Afro.

I can't remember who it was (Hannity? Mark Stein?) but they were saying that in the near future Martin Luther King, Jr. would be on the outs for his "little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
I can see why - everybody today is being judged by the color of their skin.

Great stories, sometimes with great artwork, but that was then. The Barbarians think they run the world now and the media, craven politicians and cowards often let them. Responsible parents and curious students will find the stories anyway. Let's hope there are enough of them to turn back the new, instant Dark Ages.

Today we can laugh and ridicule this kind of idiocy. But it doesn't take a prophet to foresee that in the very near future this kind of thing will be the "new normal".

In today's edition of How Much Do YOU Hate White People, we see that everyone now must be black (which somehow translates to Diverse), especially during a special month set aside to honor and adore black people in particular (no other race gets a day, and all veterans and all US presidents get a mere day apiece). Meanwhile, for years now public libraries have added special "African-American" stickers to spines of library books by and for black people, the same way they use stickers to indicate mystery and romance books, because some books are more equal than others, and because we must judge a book by its cover.
