As the NFL heads into its second century carrying the weight of existential concerns about whether it can survive another 100 years, Super Bowl LIV seems to herald a livelier era for a sport hungry for new faces and new ideas about how the game should be played. And that isn’t just because of Patrick Mahomes, the 24-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback who led his team to a 31–20 comeback victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Before Mahomes took over in the final minutes, this Super Bowl had already been framed as a turning point, something slicker and faster and more entertaining than what audiences had become accustomed

Whoever taught these leftists the word, 'existential,' should be horse whipped. I'm really getting tired of hearing and reading these no talent clowns throwing the word around.

Lipstick. Pig. Some assembly required.

The NFL hires women as sideline commentators to draw female audiences but then puts on a raunchy pole-dancing burlesque show at halftime. What's wrong with them? Don't they want to present football as a program the parents and kiddies can watch together?

When the veterans were introduced before the game, each having attained the age of 100 years or more, it appeared that the cameraman had no idea who was who and just panned back and forth instead of focusing on the man being named and honored. Disgraceful.

This woman enjoyed the game enormously - and especially the outcome; is a fan of young Mahomes, who is a refreshing personality in the tawdry world of NFL; and loathed that slimy, lascivious halftime show of parts that ladies normally keep covered.
To refute the broad brush stroke on female commentators, with the exception of Erin Anderson, who knows her way around a football field and the coaches, I have no interest in female sports commentaters in any sport. They do not draw me to watch. The competition does.

My life revolves around what FOOTBALL PLAYERS DO because I apparently don't have a life except to bet on FOOTBALL pots. Which amount to random numbers. Beats me ? Kansas City by 5 or so jackazzes. Like it matters ?

The 'game changer' for me was the Kapernic (sp?) fiasco and the kneeling for the national anthem. Haven't watched a game or bought anything branded as NFL since.

Sorry for the double. No doubt there are some exceptionable athletes out there. There are some children who have come from families who busted their humps to make sure their children stayed out of gangs, did their schoolwork and EXCELLED. I come from such a family (white) and it OFFENDS me to see the likes of the SUPER bowl especially with the simply DIGUSTING half time show. I didn't watch the second half. I have it on DVR and might get around to Q4 but probably not. NFL 4U if you don't start paying attention to the reality of the USA because you could not pull off the shirt in China.

I might return to watch the day when it again becomes necessary for a player to get into the end zone with the ball to score a touchdown.

The lack of players with dreadlocks, esp in this Superbowl game, is a step in the right direction. NFL should mandate that players names on the back of the jersey always be visible. Long haired girly men playing football does nothing for me.....
The rest of the NFL changes I propose will be in my 1,000 page book coming out this fall, entitled "Why I don't watch the NFL anymore."

#9 - oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah ... one of my pet peeves also. This 'break the plane' rule is for pansies. After all is or is not a score called a 'touch-down?' Ball or player holding ball must touch end-zone surface.

I really wanted KC to win and was willing to think that maybe the NFL was going to at least try to get its fan base back but the half time porn project was just too much. If it weren't for being an Andy Reed fan I would have turned it off at that point. It was the most disgusting display that I have seen on TV and I have seen some. I cannot believe that JLo who is a beautiful woman would so demean herself in that way. I think she is talented and do not understand why she would so agree to debase herself and her child in that way. I was beyond disappointed and feel sorry for her and her child.

I do not see the world through the eyes of the Atlantic, and never won't to. By the way, it is proper to compliment the talents and achievements of others, without putting other people down, as here, the Patriots. The Patriots also came from behind, have a great coach, and employ strategies the author of this piece would never understand, or appreciate.

It was a great game.
The hype, and disgraceful halftime show will taint what has a good game.
The NFL tried SO HARD to make us forget about Colin Crapernick with all the platitudes of patriotism.
The are lost pandering to the lower end of the entertainment at halftime-- the only thing WORSE would have been the spectacle that was the Grammy awards show...

Wow, #9 and #11, I'm surprised that at your age you know how to use a computer since you remember the days before the NFL instituted the rule that the player need only break the plane of the goal to score a touchdown (by the way, that new fangled rule went into place in 1889).

While I thought the halftime show set a really bad example for our young people (were the repeated suggestive pelvic thrusts by JeLo and Shakira really necessary?), at least everybody stood UP for the national anthem. And Kaepie wasn't there to ruin it.

I actually appreciate the racist thug kneeling players in a strange sort of way.
After 50+ years of being Cowboys' fans, when they all kneeled in solidarity with the racist thug players, my husband turned off the TV, and we haven't seen 5 minutes of any NFL game since then.
We have so much more fun, and get so much more accomplished, not wasting time watching games every Sunday. So their vile evil actions actually did us a favor!!!

I'm all for eliminating the WAY TOO LONG half time show in the super bowl. It's not needed.
