The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for the Democratic Party’s 2020 nomination for president on Thursday. The financially troubled United States Postal Service (USPS) has an estimated 500,000 full-time employees, almost all of whom are members of a union. There are seven different unions that represent USPS employees. The two largest unions are the AFL-CIO-affiliated National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), which has 270,000 members (including both current and retired USPS employees), and the APWU, also AFL-CIO-affiliated, which represents 200,000 current and retired USPS employees. “APWU members belong to the Clerk, Maintenance, Motor Vehicle Service (MVS), or Support Services divisions,”

Yet another reason public worker's unions should be forbidden.
Lets shut them down.

Of course they would endorse Bernie. A governmental body wants control. . .

This from the people who sit out front of my house and honk when I have a package, rather than bringing it to the door. No wonder UPS is eating their lunch.

Well... I have been inclined to support the postal service, buying rolls of stamps, making payments by mail, sending packages through them. Perhaps it is time to change... do some Boycott and take my chances with Online and FedEx. It is not like I am leaving them... they are leaving me.

Who is surprised by this? I find I am not. That whole set up needs to be privatized immediately. Not because of the endorsement, but because it is so inefficiently run, they have not made money in decades. Let some deep pockets clean up and run the Postal Service. Make these people earn their money for a change. Just my observations based on knowing a whole bunch of postal workers. I do not come to these opinions lightly.

Tell me again why we have a USPS? It certainly isn't because they are cheaper, and more effcient than private carriers. The only things I recieve from the P.O. are junk mail and paper copies of bills I've already paid on-line.

Fedex, UPS, Amazon come by every day, hours before the postal service shows up.

As if we needed yet ANOTHER reason to get rid of the U.S. Postal Service.....
Back in 1976 when Reagan first ran for President, he was campaigning in Georgia, he asked an old Georgia farmer "what do you want the government to do for you?" The old farmer said "I want 'em to guard the coast, tote the mail, and stay the hell out of everything else!" I agreed with him. The only difference in my opinion now is that I don't want them to tote the mail anymore.

Bernie gets big support from the teachers' union as well. If unions for government employees are so great, why not let the military unionize?

Here's my thinking - online buying has upped postal employees' workloads exponentially. Kill those businesses, much easier paychecks for all.

Last year, a simple birthday card sent from Canada by regular US mail took almost a month to arrive in Texas. A few weeks ago, I stopped by the US post office in Dallas to see about shipping options to Canada. Long-ish lines, minimal customer service. Asked what it would cost to mail a small box to Canada. It was extortionate. It was cheaper to buy a second copy of a book in Canada than to mail it home via USPS. Walked out. Will never go back. Waste of time and money.
Went to Fedex instead. Fedex shipped a 16x20x20 box (many books!) weighing close to 50 pounds for less than US Postal Service would have charged for shipping a tiny document box. Nice store, nice people, super helpful. Shipped everything else by Fedex ground, and it all arrived in Canada on time in good order within 10 days. It's like Fedex people do their jobs like their jobs depend on it.
I bet Bernie hates that.
P.S. Pro Tip: When shipping to Canada, be careful what you declare as the goods. A large Fedex box full of "Cookware," for example, gives you multiple price options from $200 to about $50 depending on how fast you want it there. However, declaring something "Personal Effects" meant Fedex would only send by air, which costs hundreds of dollars more.

I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of a gubmint agency that loses $84,000,000,000 per quarter but that doesn't stop them from making sure that I get all of my shiny mail.

Bernie thinks bread lines are great. Long lines at the Post Office will give you time to decide to start paying bills on line or order or buy on line. There is a reason why you're seeing more Amazon trucks doing deliveries.

Disband that union and pass a Constitutional Amendment to allow private firms to deliver mail.

It's traditional to trash the PO. I'd be happy if they went through a training program to learn how to close the lid on a mailbox. Every time I come home and the lid is open it is a message to thieves that I'm not there. And important mail such as offers to purchase a warranty for a car I haven't owned in 10 years might fall out. Guess they didn't respond to Make the Post Office Great Again.

Commies are postal workers?? Postal workers are commies?? Or....does the UNION give endorsements regardless of what the members really want?? Unions are notorious for taking member dues but not representing them.
