A new study shows the number of Washington state drivers involved in deadly crashes who tested positive for THC has doubled.
According to research by AAA between 2008 and 2012, an estimated eight percent of Washington drivers involved in fatal crashes were positive for THC. That rate now is more than double since weed became legal in Washington.
In the five years before legislation, an average of 56 Washington drivers involved in fatal crashes each year were THC positive.

Staff, I'm sorry about all the other stories that 'tagged' along with this one. I was sure I had isolated it from the rest of the KOMO news site. Sorry.

As I recall, it affects depth perception. Other effects that would affect driving ability were mentioned, but that is the one I recall.

Maybe a bit off-topic, but Washington and Seattle has none of the twisted “personality” of the rest of the major West Coast major cities. Portland is weird and gets away with it, San Francisco is legendary for its hippie lifestyle and we accept it, and Los Angeles is the Mecca of sun-stroked depravity, but Seattle is just dirty, criminal, and evil.

Nearly everyone supports keeping alcohol legal, but no one supports drunk driving. Same with cannabis. If you drive stoned, you should be penalized the same way as a drunk driver. Impaired is impaired.

#6, I agree about Seattle, but please leave Eastern Washington state out of that realm. Look at the 2016 election map of the state and you'll see what I mean. All red in the east except Whitman county which can be chalked up to the presence of Washington St. University and Palouse farmers who tend to share the philosophy of the Dem Farmer Labor Party of Minnesota.

You can test positive for THC three months after consuming it, #11.
But many people will categorize you as a stoner for years after your last puff of the loco-weed. Some of them will still have that view of you after you enter your long dirt nap.

THC stays in your system for months. If you have an accident and test positve for THC you may have consumed 3 months ago, no longer high!

That long, #5? that's not good...
Your sense of distance, speed, perspective are impacted by the drug. Some people think it makes them sound smart. Not! It's not called "dope" for nothing.

Arizona tried to warn us this would happen. One thing for sure we don’t need anymore drivers with road rage.
