Chief Justice Roberts blocked Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul from posing a question during the Senate impeachment trial that would have named the alleged whistleblower at the center of the episode, Fox News is told--and Paul may try to force the issue during the question-and-answer session that begins Thursday afternoon. (Snip) But, Fox News has learned Roberts may soon lose his grip on the proceedings amid a torrent of criticism both inside and outside the Senate.

Isn't it written somewhere (it's 1:00 a.m., my thinking cap isn't fully awake) but isn't it written somewhere that the accused has the right to face the accuser? Who has to go to trial not knowing who made the accusations, what they were, and why?

And Fox in this article doesn't name the rat, either. Roberts is Romney in black robes.

So Roberts & Schiff says an unknown person can make up anything to get rid of the President & the name is allowed to be hidden??? Paul should say to Roberts the accused has always been allowed to confront the accuser. Roberts is Intimidated by the dems & the media....just like Obama intimidated Roberts the day before the Obamacare vote.... Roberts caved & called it a tax. Even a person issued a speeding ticket is allowed to confront the accuser in court.

He’s not a whistleblower and he is not protected by any right to anonymity. Whistleblower laws are meant to protect you from retaliation, not to create a free-fire zone for angry co-workers.

The Dred Pirate Roberts is simply a moderator in this mess. Shove it back in his face or have him removed from the Chambers. What's he gonna do, jump up and down in his cute little black robe and bang his gavel? Give the Democrats a "summary judgment?" Bah!

I don't care who ya are. It's a bad idea to take a stick and poke Rand Paul.

Roberts just showed his ineptitude about what the Federal "whistleblower" law says. His easy confirmation always seemed suspicious to me. I think the Demonrats knew he was a sheep in wolf's clothing.

Let's all take a moment and thank George W. Bush for putting Justice Roberts on the court.
Have to agree with #11. The democrats knew what they were getting with this appointment.

Why can't Rand Paul use a person's name in his question? After all, as Adam Schiff claims (with a straight lying face), nobody knows who the "whistle-blower" is.

I hope Rand Paul does force this issue. There is no legitimate whistleblower. John Roberts knows it, and at the very least, has not looked to see any evidence of it. This is a ruling from the bench without any evidence. Rand Paul should stuff this into Robert's head, so he understands arbitrary rulings and opinions are not appreciated, or tolerated.

I am glad to see someone stand up to our wimpy Chief Justice. What a stunningly unimpressive man.

The chief was in an awkward spot as it is quite likely his court may have to decide this issue. He punted for now. Very judicial.

Pathetic move in a grotesque perversion of the rules, procedures and intent of the principles laid down for this Republic. If Roberts were capable of shame, he should be ashamed of his entire time on the S.C.
