Retired Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz gave what may be the most persuasive case against impeaching President Donald Trump while in the well of the U.S. Senate on Monday evening.
Speaking as a representative of Trump's defense team, the lifelong liberal Democrat urged senators to not "let the feelings about one man, strong as they may be, cause irreparable damage" to the fate of other presidents. "Passion and fears of the moment must not blind us," he pleaded.
Giving a clinic on the history of impeachment in a matter-of-fact and understandable way,

I think now that the Senators have had time to sleep on it they can see that this is just a "Hail Mary" the Democrats are throwing into the Trial. There is NO reason to have witnesses. There is NO reason to believe the accusations of Bolton, a man with an Axe to Grind for being fired from the Job he had lobbied for since Trump was elected. He wants revenge! Don't give it to him!

Right now it's an accusation from the New York Times, not Bolton.

I completely agree, #1. I was spellbound. Dershowitz' presentation was eloquent, to the point, and surprisingly humble. He demolished Schiff in such a delicate way that Schiff probably thanked him afterwards. Any person who loves this country HAD TO have been in agreement with his remarkable defense. What a brilliant legal mind.

And enough is enough. Leader McConnell, there's nothing to see here. Let's have the vote to dismiss the case by Friday.

My 89 y/o mother, who finds the President to be personally distasteful, called me this morning raving about Dershowitz's performance last night. His presentation convinced her that this proceeding had been a sham all along.

To suggest that we add testimony that changes absolutely nothing is proof positive of theatrics not an honest process.

Bolton's "accusation" was characterized correctly by Rush who claims he tells people he doesn't want to go to the dentist but he does. Even if Trump said he wanted to tie aid to investigations, he didn't!

This whole shams purpose is to damage Trump and republicans in 2020. And democrats have a history of and are not disinclined to lie.

Does anyone for a millisecond beleive RINOs like Romney, Collins and Murkowski actually understood a word Dershowitz said? One thing we all know is true, elected House and Senate people are less intelligent than the average garden slug and facts, logic and common sense are capabilities far beyond their meager talents. I doubt a thing changes in the Senate. This joke keeps going and going as long as Rebublicans collapse to Dem last minute gotcha schemes.

Dershowitz is saying what everybody already knows. There is still no crime!
McConnell is presiding over a democrat run clown show. This isn't a hearing or a trial. Any Republican that cannot recognize this is in on it.
End the farce now!

Dersh is on Team Constitution in this case, and I am glad somebody is defending it as well as he did. He did a fantastic job IMO, and his other shoe analogy is one I hope the senators take to heart in a most serious way. For if they do not, they are setting the stage for disaster, and it will be on their heads even if they don't care a bit for the constitution. I suspect that the reason we haven't seen viewer numbers yet is because the media is trying desperately to hide the fact that millions of people watched day 1 of the Trump response and listened as the Obama/Biden presidency went into the congressional record for all time. The take down and listing of the corruption during those 8 years was quite impressive, and made me feel good that at least it is all laid out for anyone to see.
If this is the same Victoria Taft who used to have a radio show in my area, I look forward to more writings from her. For she is a feisty and steady supporter of doing what is right. I suspect that McConnell and Trump are letting this play out for two reasons. One is that the corruption of democrats is being exposed on a grand scale to millions of people of all political views and is going into the congressional record for all posterity. Two, McConnell can no longer be accused of being unfair and partisan if he holds the vote rather than delay it. This has indeed gone on long enough, and it needs to be quashed for good.

Have the vote on witnesses. Romney, Murky, and Maine will vote yes. Sanders, Lizzie, and Klobberjar will vote no.

I disagree with the professor’s conclusion that all prior presidents would have been impeached using the standard that the House Democrats are currently using, in that it would only have been Republican Presidents!

Unfortunately, his presentation was to intelligent for most of the senators, especially Romney and the other anti-Trump RHINOs. This morning several are still calling for witnesses to be called. They really do deserve the name "the stupid party"

The Dershowitz Test
The test: Do you love the country and love the Constitution more than partisanship? Some Senators will make this clear with their votes concerning the impeachment of President Trump.
The people will reject or retain the president in the upcoming election just months from now. It's interesting to note 150,000 people have requested tickets to hear the President tonight in New Jersey. These people, from all parties, love our country and Constitution. Do you?

Romney understands what Dershowitz said. Romney is a Harvard Law graduate who probably had Dershowitz as his professor or at least knew of him. Romney is pursuing a personal grievance that has nothing to do with what is legally correct.

I was never a Dershowitz fan because he has always been working for leftist causes. BUT, the most amazing thing is that he is an honest man, and will stand up for what is right....regardless of the politics of the issue.
That is pretty rare these days.
Lots of good wishes for Mr. Dershowitz, and he gets a lifetime spot on my "good guys" list, whether we might agree or not on a particular issue.

Me v Dershowitz after some years of familiarity.
Policy and politics DISAGREE
Love and respect for country and constitution AGREE
This guy is one of the old school Democrats like JFK, like Pat Moynihan. These people are NOT "Progressives", Socialists or otherwise. They are, like me, Americans and I cannot help but respect them, politics be damned.
