Hard to say what fired and now former National Security Advisor John Bolton is up to these days now that the Senate impeachment trial is on.
The latest news is here on the front page of the New York Times, reporting an anonymous "leak":
WASHINGTON — President Trump told his national security adviser in August that he wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens, according to an unpublished manuscript by the former adviser, John R. Bolton.

I am done with John Bolton. He hasn't had much in the way of a job in years, so needs some money. Bolton is done in Republican circles, so the book sales is it for him.

Bearing in mind the MFM "sources" regurgitating this story, I'll wait to see the final outcome. However, I do agree that this will be a revealing test of Bolton's mettle.

If this was a leak from Bolton's review process then he OWES a clarifying statement to the public.
For example, Trump "may" have floated the idea in some form, maybe not even seriously. People may have said, "That's probably not legal, Mr. President." and Trump says "OK" and moves on. That's WHY you have lawyers to comment, to add information and prevent legal mistakes. We don't know and Bolton should be VERY careful about truth vs. opinion. If he is a decent person he should make a statement as to the nature of the leak.
If he doesn't, Bolton should have no place in Conservative politics in the future. He cannot be trusted.

What's he up to? He's up to being a Never-Trumper-Neocon. I don't know why Trump hired him to begin with.

It is possible that what Bolton AND Mr. Trump are saying is true. How is that possible? The media choose how they frame statements and conversations. They cherry-pick which sentences to use, at times making what someone says sound like the very opposite of what someone means. You can't trust the media to report objectively about a person they want to skewer!

We now have discovered that Bolton is willing to lie to try to harm the President.
I used to think Bolton was a good guy, and he turns out to be a lying sack of manure.

It's been said that everyone has a price. If Bolton does stab the President in the back, there's your proof. I'll wait to see before I condemn him.

At this point, if Bolton was on the side of disbanding this impeachment nonsense, he would come forward and clarify any comments without testifying. Otherwise, he is just trying to get back at the President for firing him. .

When an adviser of any kind forgets their place in the grand scheme of things, like Mr. Bolton did, it is time to kick them to the curb. He showed himself for the thin skinned egoist that he is. It is up to the President t omake the final decision on any given situation, you are there to ADVISE, nothing more. I want Sekulow or Cipillone to tear Bolton a new one. He earned it.

Assuming the statement is even in the book in the manner described (a large assumption), it's about the fact the book is going on pre-order on Amazon tomorrow.

If Bolton thinks it's in his interest to bite the hand that fed him, and publish a book with revelations harmful to President Trump in the midst of this impeachment fiasco, then Bolton is a lot dumber than anyone has ever accused him of being, and he should never again hold an office close to genuine political power.

Here's a theory: Bolton is pining to belong to the national security community center. So he gazes at them wide eyed and hands over a dynamite book manuscript to express his trust. So he writes the dynamite book in the first place. That community is his real emotional microclimate, not his work place, not Trump, not the citizenry he affects to care about. His "extreme" views are an affectation and may change. In this case, he is irresistibly engaging with them and begging for friendship by offering up this sweet Trust. I don't think he is in touch with himself.

Anonymous source, check. Kneepad Media, check. Something bad about Trump, check. Bonus points, timely leak near end of impeachment, double check. Not only does this qualify for fake news, it qualifies for the usual last minute gotcha unprovable allegation Dems use all the time. I'll wait for the real facts on this one.

This is all a set up. The GOP has been had, big time. Who believes that this leak to the NYTimes just happened to occur right this moment---conveniently on the weekend before Trump's lawyers present their case? No way. This is a blatant attempt to sway the weak-kneed Republican Senators at the last minute into agreeing to call witnesses.
Schiff HAD TO have known that Bolton had damaging evidence BEFORE the so-called leak. That's why the Manager's case was riddled with mentions of calling Bolton "and possibly others." When the GOP caves in to the Demos' demands, the House Managers will have done their job. We will have endless Kavenesque testimony and the media will take the Demos' passed baton and continue the circus until NOV. Trump may have trouble being a shark in the swamp and we have no back up Plan B.

Have to agree with a couple of posters who don't expect Bolton to betray the CIC. I would like to think that he would have to consider even the remote chance that one of the communists running for the job just MIGHT cost this country a price that is just too high.

This leak from the Deep State STILL does not rise to the level of a "high crime" or "misdemeanor" as defined by the Constitution-- No bribery or treason stated here, just another attempt to justify or provide some speck of 'moral equivalency' that the "Separation of Powers" should be disregarded.
The Legislative branch of Congress makes the laws--- the Executive branch is in charge of how we deal with other countries in foreign policy.

In response to the story, Bolton did not dispute or correct the content of the Times' report regarding his statement. He only said that only the NSC could have leaked it, as only the NSC had a copy of the manuscript. In any event, so what? It is the President's job not to send money to a corrupt government, and the political affiliation of Americans who are benefiting from the non-American government's corruption does not matter. What this is, is just more fuel in the Democrats' attempt to drag this out and further dirty up their target (in this case, our President) (as the Democrats didin the Kavanaugh hearings, and the Clarence Thomas hearings). The Trump team should tell them No More Witnesses!!

Look at the facts, Bolton is a neocon warmonger who has advocated war with Iran, North Korea, and Russia. President Trump was not about to take such advise from Bolton and fired him.
That put Bolton out in the cold and he immediately started writing a book. In his book Bolton apparently wrote about internal deliberations that took place in the White House involving him as National Security Advisor and the President. Some of those deliberations and ideas became official policy and some were modified and did not become policy. All this coming out at this time through a well timed “leak” in the New York Times, a media outlet that has been found to be inaccurate many times in the past when it comes to their reporting on Trump and his Administration. The “leak” coming at a critical time in the Senate trial, that was never disclosed during the House impeachment inquisition, with the Democrats now holding up Bolton as the latest incarnation of JC, when before, to them Bolton was always a neocon warmonger to be avoided at all costs, that “leak” is too cute by far, designed to swing political fools like never-Trumper Senators Collins and Romney, and maybe others who are actually Democrats in disguise, to vote for the witnesses that the Democrats want to rake over the coals and keep the Senate trial going as long as possible, obviously to defend and protect corrupt Joe Biden and help his ongoing political campaign by keeping the four Democrat Senators running against Biden locked up in the Senate for as long as possible.

Bolton was certainly not another Obama holdover that the incoming president inexplicably failed to remove and he didn't hire himself into the Trump administration.

This is not really anything new. The President's defense team has already acknowledged several times that he was concerned with giving aid to Ukraine if it was not cleaning up its history of corruption. What he didn't say to Bolton is "I'm not giving the aid to Ukraine unless they investigate my political opponent so I can use fabricated dirt against him". This is what the DNC did to Trump. The firing of the prosecutor in return for the Ukrainian aid as admitted to by Joe Biden himself is a prima fascia description of bribery. It was entirely appropriate for the President to ask Zelensky to "look into it" on the phone call especially since there was no attempt to make this contingent on the delivery of aid. The facts of the phone call show the President did nothing wrong and anything Bolton may have discussed with him are irrelevant unless he also says he told the Ukrainians.
