Prince Charles avoided shaking hands with Mike Pence, the U.S. vice president. at an Auschwitz memorial event in Jerusalem Thursday - but then smiled as he greeted Vladimir Putin.
A video clip of the Prince of Wales greeting officials in Israel shows him walking along the front row of seats, shaking hands with world and Jewish leaders.
When he came to Pence, the vice president had his hand extended in apparent expectation of a handshake.
But the heir to the British throne merely looked him in the eye before moving on to shake hands with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the country's President Reuven Rivlin.

What had Mr. Pence done to deserve that? And why would you be friendly toward Putin and not to Mr. Pence. Even if you didn't like the policies of Mr. Pence's boss and administration, the American Vice President is a far better ally to the United Kingdom than Putin is.

Okay . . . the optics were bad, but there is more to the story. Prince Charles had already spent about 5 minutes talking with Mr. Pence prior the sit-down meeting. Protocol says heads of state shake hands with other heads of state and with hosts. Mr. Pence is neither. A tempest in a teapot.

I fail to see why Americans care a whit about the behavior of English royalty. They are nothing but inbred, arrogant, elitist, wealthy non-entities.

My, my he's a "Prince". He's ROYALTY, an aristocrat! Didn't we have a revolution so we could be done with that inbred, supercilious gang of inherited pomposity? And then, about 75 years ago, didn't this country pull their fat from the fire and rescue "their" country from NAZI ruin? To quote the great Greta, who Prince Charles and his fellow privileged, rich, spoiled, leftist nitwits worship, "How dare you," insult our elected vice President, you worthless piece of dog poo.

Thank you, #5. That makes a lot more sense. Prince Charles really is an A--hat, but I just couldn't believe he would insult the US like that. After all his new daughter-in-law is an all-American princess.

Why this family is thought to be at the apex of society is beyond me. Prince Charles demonstrates total lack of class, breeding, and politesse. In fact, he is a boor. Many of the British titled aristocracy have never had much use for the House of Windsor or whatever they are calling themselves these days, obviously with good reason.

Post BREXIT Britain needs all the trading partners it can get. And, London will lose up to 75% of it's Financial Industry.
The USA could do a lot to smooth things over. Or, we could just take the London Financial Industry and tell the
Brits to Sod Off!

Nice try #5. Brit Royal etiquette fellow quoted as saying don’t be daft. Charles knows cameras would pick up what they did.
Vice-President Pence’s face said it all. The Prince and his climate-control fan boys for sons all detest President Trump. By extension, they dislike our good VP
as well. Sometimes there is no need to overthink things. Charles knew exactly what he was doing and how it would be played.

I agree completely # 19. The Prince knew exactly what he was doing. He lives in the public eye and knew it would be picked up. He was sending a message. Hope Trump got it.
Nice of VP Pence to deny any offense. The Prince is lying about it through his teeth though.

Unh... unh... uh.............. Nope, can't even get my give-a-damn started for this.
Our national identity has its origins in fighting a war against the British monarchy and a wholesale rejection of royalty. Being snubbed according to royal etiquette deprived Vice President Pence of absolutely nothing of value.

His Mother would not approve. His Grandmother would not approve. And I rather imagine his father Charles would not approve either.
There is no place for this sort of rudeness in the world. At 35, he is old enough to know that. He is a blight on the Royal Family and the UK. Good riddance!

Well, I was so steamed, I thought this was about Harry. Once I get the egg off my face, I should be fine. We’ve always known Charles was a disaster. Full stop.
BTW, when Vice President Pence attends events like this one, he is standing in for President Trump and representing the United States of America so, yes, he is accorded head-of-state courtesies...

Merry Prince Charles is an ahole, and has been his entire life. The idea that he had met Pence earlier is irrelevant. Pence held his hand out to shake Charley's hand, and was snubbed.

Having read the article, the official explanation makes sense to me. But Bonnie Prince Charley is still stupid not to have shaken Pence's hand once offered, if only for the cameras, even if they did spend five minutes together just prior to this occasion. When one is paid $20 to $30 million a year to show up at events and shake others' hands for a living, one should have more sense than this.

What this all boils down to is another Royal public relations fiasco that will resonate through both the U.K. and the USA. It’s just common sense that Chuck should have known that the cameras were on him and that the media was just looking for anything that they could turn into controversy that is the 24/7 media’s life blood these days.
