Their "conservative" columnist, David Brooks, just penned a column called "I Miss Barack Obama." This isn't too much of a surprise, of course, coming from the man who said that Obama would be a tremendous president because of the sharp crease in his pants.

If Schiff Head Head lies during his opening statement, and the president's team objects, how will Chief Judas John Roberts react? Will he rule on the objection properly? Or will he avoid the objection and keep a hands off approach to the process? Will Roberts allow surprise witnesses over objections? (a common trick by prosecutors) Will he disallow DJT witnesses? (Another common trick by slick lawyers). Will Roberts allow second and third hand hearsay? Will Roberts allow the fake whistle blower to be a witness?
In general, how much leeway will Roberts give to the House managers?
All of my points are important, because each of them could be used as a campaign commercial for the November elections. In a way, this is the insurance policy discussed by Page and her boyfriend.
The parties are operating in uncharted waters, with the media steering the boat.
I do hope Roberts does not have a grand mal epileptic seizure while presiding - stress is the enemy of an epileptic.

Based on what I've seen over the last several months, on a level playing field Schiff couldn't walk all over the paper boy. He absolutely must have all the rules stacked in his favor to make any impact at all. I hope this will not be another Soviet trial like the one in the House.

The Chief Justice's job is to call the morning to order then adjourn later in the day. Any ruling he might make can be overturned by a simple majority vote of the Senate. Normal trial rules, conducted under the direction of a judge, do not apply. This article is well worth reading and will put to rest any concerns about Robert's influence over the proceedings. At the conclusion of Clinton's trial, Rehnquist explained his job a doing, “nothing in particular and [doing] it very well.”

I share the concern that some of you do regarding the role of Chief Justice Roberts. If pressure was put upon him the night before the decision on Obamacare was announced and he caved, how much pressure do you think it is going to take for him to make rulings favorable to the democrats? It is very disconcerting to know that someone who should be fair could possibly decide to tip the scales so to speak. Clearly, the President has put together a solid team but what good is that if they are undermined.
It is disgraceful that we have come this far with no real evidence other than hearsay witnesses and biased law professors who came forward to tell us all how guilty the President is. The two articles the democrats have based this folly on do not reach the level of high crimes and misdemeanors. So why are we here, because evidently no force on earth is able to stop Nasty Nancy and her cabal when they decide to unseat a duly elected President by nullifying the votes of 63 million Americans. We are about to give the crazies what they want and it scares me to death. To trust the Republicans to stand firm with our President is asking a lot, but you go to impeachment with the group you’ve got. I just pray that those who are wobbly will understand the importance of their vote. The very Republic is at stake. Removing a President on these flimsy trumped up charges will take us to a place from which we will never return. God help them to make the right decision. Removing this President will embolden the rabid progressives and it will be the end of the rule of law and justice. God help us to get this right. We have had enough of their lawlessness and corruption to last a lifetime. Pray earnestly today and in the days to come. Divine intervention would be welcome. May the truth shine forth and the democrats be revealed for who they are. God bless the USA!

I think most people who are concerned about Roberts understand the rules under which he is supposed to operate in the trial but also know that he can overstep those rules to affect negatively against Trump and understand what that will that do to some of the weak willed Republicans. The press would latch onto Roberts position and he would be the greatest SCOTUS judge of all times. Remember, Roberts essentially rewrote Obamacare so that a tax was not a tax.

David Brooks is a clown. Adam Schiff is a clown. Schiff won't last 5 minutes with Trump's team. However, I do agree with #15. This is very troublesome and I'm concerned our political system will be changed forever. The Dems have managed to impeach this president with no evidence of a crime, completely unconstitutional. They managed the inquiry process in the most partisan and unconstitutional way possible. And yet, here we are. This trial should be shut down and the case dismissed. Otherwise, who knows how this could go. I don't have much confidence in several Republican senators. At all. I believe the Republicans will let the Dem managers get away with re-trying this case. Again, unconstitutional.

It's Brooks and it's the Slimes. But, I agree with #15 concerns about Roberts after Roberts hung America out to dry on Obamacare. But, as long as the McConnell and the pubbies do their jobs right, the outcome will be fine for us. Remember that Roberts does not have a vote when the vote to dismiss or acquit take place. Meanwhile, I would never underestimate Dershowitz and Ken Starr. Brooks gives Pencil Neck way too much credit.

As they say, small men always cast long shadows as the sun goes down on them and they soon find themselves in the dark.
Adam Shiff-less has been playing sandlot ball with the manager of his team being his mother, the umpire is his brother, the other team is only allowed two strikes and one out per inning and the scorekeeper is on his payroll. The ball game he has been playing couldn't be more rigged in his favor. Now he's about to move out-of-town and into the majors. I expect him to get creamed.
And don't worry about John Roberts. He's much calmer now. Many believe Obama threatened to give him problems on the possible improper adoption of his two kids from Ireland, Jack & Josie. The fear of losing his children supposedly made John toe the line. Both of his kids are 18 now and adults, and Trump would never allow them to be deported anyway.
Mitch McConnell will actually run the Senate trial and can overrule Judge Roberts by 50/50 vote (Pence breaks the tie) so he only needs to corral 50 Senators to get his way and the other 3 upstarts can pound sand.
I'm looking forward to Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Lindsey Graham, etc. cross-examining Shiff-for-brains.

After reading Wikipedia about Brooks, I've come to the conclusion that from the very beginning of his career Brooks has been an opportunist and a smart mouth writer always looking for a headline and a higher paying job.
For awhile he was considered a Conservative, but only to suit his purpose. In journalism, money screams at you loud and clear, but only if you're fake or a phony. He was never a true conservative. I'm thrilled he's come out of the closet and has declared himself Never Trumper. No big loss to the Right! We don't need his type.
One of the benefits gained from having President Trump has been the sifting out of all the phonies...Brooks, Noonan, Rubin to name a few.

No one of any mental or political substance pays attention to what David Brooks says. His role at the NY Times is akin to Juan Williams' role on Fox. He's there simply to allow the Times to claim it allows equal time for multiple points of view.
Post #13 is important here. An impeachment "trial" is nothing like a regular court civil or criminal trial. Roberts' role is more like master of ceremonies--introducing speakers and limiting their time--than a judge in a regular trial, who rules repeatedly on the admissibility of evidence. Schiff will have ample time to argue his point of view, laden with lies and irrelevant "evidence." His arguments may be somewhat persuasive; remember that he will have hired some able lawyers for his side as well. PDT's lawyers will be crafting some persuasive arguments and speeches against Schiff's arguments.
In large measure, the arguments will be crafted to impress the American public--not Chief Justice Roberts, who has no vote, not the 100 senators, who already have already made their decisions. The real trick will be to argue so as to persuade Romney, Collins, and Murkowski that voting in favor of impeachment would embarrass them before their constituents.

Like, I mean, Alan Dershowitz has absolutely nothing to gain by getting involved with the Trump side in this matter. Nothing. In fact, because he has become involved, he makes himself an even bigger target as the deep state will ratchet up even more the accusations against him in the Epstein case. That said, David, like, I mean, this should be a major clue to you, Mr. Crease in His Pants, that the Democrats' corruption of the US Constitution is so grave and threatening to the Republic, that an 82 year old man, Democrat and uber successful lawyer, is willing to subject himself to scorn, abuse, lies, physical threats of violence, the abandonment by friends and relatives, all in order to protect and defend the Constitution and our beloved country. David, like I mean, this guy has more integrity in his pinky toenail than you could ever wish to have in a lifetime. What a disgrace you are. And by the way, like I mean where were you educated? We see all 3 branches plus the betrayal of the Press involved day after day attacking the Republic. Nancy is freaking out so bad and the Press is covering for her as she increases her panic attacks on Barr and Durham. Why would she attack them if she has the truth on her side. She knows how serious the crimes her and her party committed against the nation and Republic. How the heck do you have an election with a party that rejected the previous??????????? Brooks is a dishonest partisan thug running his mouth, and the media acts like he is a credible source. This is what we can expect from the upside down and bass ackwards world of leftist journalism.
Trump impeachment has been a sham from the beginning. It only got through the House because Pelosi had the numbers. McConnell, in theory, has the numbers in the Senate to shut this monstrosity down, but its clear that not all Republicans are on the same page. We're going to see just how many Republicans side with the Democrats on impeachment.
The proverbial ball is now in the Republican court, and impeachment cannot succeed with Republican support. Said it from the beginning: Watch the Republicans.

They just pretended it never happened and the maniac Arnold slid back into the has been world he rightly deserves where his boost is 'I used to be married to Roseann, who used to have a hit show.'
