An avalanche at Alpine Meadows ski resort killed a 34-year-old man and seriously injured another Friday morning, according to the Placer County Sheriff's office. Cole Comstock, from Blairsden, California, a small community outside Graeagle 60 miles northwest of Reno, died in the slide reported at 10:16 a.m. near two black diamond runs off Scott Chair. (Snip)The second man, who was not identified, was transported with severe lower-body injuries to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, where he underwent surgery. (Snip) One witness who declined to give his name said he saw the slide from the chairlift. He said the avalanche happened in seconds, and was quiet. “It happened just as you’d imagine,

I wonder if the greenie weenies have stopped them from doing avalanche triggering misisons like I have seen in the past? At A-Basin in Colorado, I have watched videos of them with a large air cannon launching explosive charges (they look like mortar rounds) a half a mile to trigger mini-avalanches and protect the ski runs from large avalanches by preventing the large buildups. The eco-whackos have wrecked everything else, why not this?

Some of these expert runs are so steep that the skiers themselves can trigger an avalanche. Personally I prefer a long, flat bunny run and even then I'm going to fall. Hats off to the thrill seekers.

My wife and I used to ski Alpine back in the 1970's-80's until an avalanche dropped 15 feet of snow in the lodge area and the parking lot. Seven people died that day.

WASHINGTON — A White House adviser on Europe and Russia issues has been placed on administrative leave pending a security-related investigation, two people with knowledge of his exit said Sunday. Andrew Peek was escorted off the White House compound on Friday, according to one of those familiar with his departure.(Snip)Peek, former deputy assistant secretary of state for Iraq and Iran, has been in the position since November. His two predecessors in that position – Tim Morrison and Fiona Hill – both testified in the House impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump. Two Washington Post reporters have a new book, A Very Stable Genius: Donald J. Trump’s Testing of America, on sale on Tuesday. The idea was to bring Trump to the Pentagon’s Situation Room, where military leaders, so the plan went, would give him a crash course on who America’s allies were, why they were worth keeping on side, and where on earth they

Prince Harry has spoken of his 'great sadness that it has come to this' as he breaks his silence this evening over Megxit and laments it was not possible to find the new life he wanted. The Duke of Sussex was at a formal private dinner at the Ivy, in Chelsea, for vulnerable children's charity Sentebale, which founded in 2006, when he made the comments. In an emotional speech, the 35-year-old said that the UK is a place that he loves and that will 'never change' but that he had 'no other option' than to quit senior royal duties. How are the mighty fallen! This time a year ago, Prince Harry had the world at his feet. He was a handsome prince with a beautiful wife and a healthy male heir on the way, plenty of money, a free, five-bedroomed ‘cottage’ in a piece of England’s finest real estate, a dashing war record from two tours in Afghanistan, bags of honorary titles — including Captain General of the Royal Marines — all the cachet of being a senior player in the world’s grandest Royal Family but little of the responsibility (his big brother William is heir to the throne, so the pressure is off there), with plenty of spare time

In addition, the book contains no unnamed sources. Instead, it is based on hard evidence and documents, including: foreign and domestic corporate and legal records, tax liens, lobbyist disclosures, property records, White House visitor logs, federal bankruptcies, and federal criminal trial records. Publishing giant HarperCollins has kept Profiles in Corruption under a strict embargo. The book will reportedly expose how five members of Joe Biden’s family—the “Biden Five”—scored “tens of millions of dollars” in taxpayer money and guaranteed loans.

It’s the ongoing “secret” that everyone knows and it has the D.C. Establishment gnashing their teeth in outrage. Support for President Trump is surging due not only to the remarkably strong economy and international successes for the U.S., but also because of voter backlash against the ongoing insanity that is the Democrat Party – a party currently without any substantive policies or direction. When more than half of the people attending recent political rallies for President Trump are Democrats and Independents it’s a sign the president’s broad-based appeal to tens of millions from all backgrounds could prove impossible for the zany Democrats to defeat in 2020.

Tuesday night’s CNN debate was a set-up. And that’s not some internet fever dream, it’s an observation shared by reporters from Rolling Stone and The Huffington Post to Fox News and The Daily Caller. Even late-night comedy picked up on the game. The trap was set the day before, when the hosts of the debate published a story claiming that in 2018, during a private meeting between Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, Sanders told Warren a woman can not win the presidency. Reporters have grown even lazier and more comfortable thinking readers are stupid, so the initial report cited four anonymous sources for a story about a one-on-one meeting

House Democrats announced this week that they are launching an investigation into the Trump Administration’s Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) program, known colloquially as the “Remain in Mexico” policy. It’s the latest attempt by Democrats to undo the Trump Administration’s aggressive—and, so far, successful—policies to reduce illegal migration at the southern border. For a policy that has roiled the country for the better part of the last two years, the state of the border and the president’s response to it has not received much mainstream attention lately. But the president slowly has been inching toward fulfilling his campaign promise to reduce illegal migration, both with policy changes and a wall at the southern

If the Trump era has taught us anything, it's that large numbers of white people in the United States are motivated at least in part by racism in the voting booth. Donald Trump ran an openly racist campaign for president, calling Mexicans rapists and criminals, regularly retweeting white supremacists and at least initially balking at repudiating former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke. Trump made it clear in his campaign that "Make America Great Again" meant that America was greater when white people's power was more sweeping and more secure. White voters approved of that message by a whopping 58 percent to 37 percent.

The new arrangement comes into effect in spring this year, the palace said. President Donald Trump made a stark appeal to black Americans during the 2016 election when he asked, “What have you got to lose?” Three years later, black Americans have rendered their verdict on his presidency with a deeply pessimistic assessment of their place in the United States under a leader seen by an overwhelming majority as racist. The findings come from a Washington Post-Ipsos poll of African Americans nationwide, which reveals fears about whether their children will have a fair shot to succeed and a belief that white Americans don’t fully appreciate the discrimination that black people experience.
