What Would a Democratic Socialist America Look Like?
I Can Tell You—I’m Venezuelan.

The closer we get to the 2020 election, Democratic presidential candidates support more socialist proposals, and the more that we Venezuelan immigrants experience déjà vu.
We’re all-too-familiar with the rhetoric Democrats have delivered over the course of their campaigns. All candidates endorse a transition to Medicare-for-All in one form or another, higher taxes on Americans, and a fresh wave of regulations and government-guaranteed “rights.” And just recently, Elizabeth Warren seemed to endorse government-provided housing. These are the kinds of measures they hope will bring about a paradise similar to the Left’s beloved Nordic countries.

Read Kurt Schlichter's books, or Liberty's Last Stand by Stephen Coonts.

Human behavior will invariably fall on a normal distribution. If all students were predestined to get “C’s” there will be that rare gem who would study as hard as he or she would in a system that recognized and rewarded hard work. There will always be those on the other end who simply won’t lift a finger and study or do homework regardless of the grading system. The system matters to everybody else, the vast majority, not the outliers.
Any time you equalize the outcome for all levels of effort, effort will suffer. Any time you consolidate power corruption will follow. As our government has overextended beyond constitutional boundaries corruption has grown in parallel. You cannot escape the natural laws of human behavior, no matter how hard you try. Socialism becomes Venezuela. Open the socialist spigot a little, you get a little decline in effort and increase in corruption. Social Security for example; people stopped being as aggressive in saving for retirement and all the money was stolen and used to finance the general fund.

I can tell you too. I spent 3 years in the Socialist Republic of Romania under Nicolae Ceausescu.
It would be much worse than even this article suggests - the author doesn’t go into the spying on average citizens, the punishments for uttering a single word against the regime, the control over your car and your home (if it hasn’t been taken away from you), the harassment, the food lines, the lack of basic needs, the disappearance of basic services....

Excellent article, but it leaves out one element. While all of this is happening, a democrat controlled government will escalate the erosion of our rights. Free speech, second amendment, election integrity etc....until they have rendered us powerless to throw them out. At that point, you can call it anything you like, but the government will have morphed into a full fledged dictatorship, after which the cost to correct this mistake becomes monumental.

Daniel, I have been to Venezuela, Columbia, and several countries in eastern Europe on business where people were made to live absolutely miserable lives. I much agree with your observations.
I urge you to speak to our young people here. Our indoctrination centers are pumping utopian socialism into their heads at all grade levels. A stunning majority of our 9 - 12 kids now embrace socialism and want it here. We need you to tell them the truth about socialism and also urge them to reject the teachers unions, liberal classmates, and social media contacts who are indoctrinating them.

I can say something too. After my 3 year military assignment in Berlin, when I listen to Bernie, I see the wall, the death strip, the guard towers, and the imprisoned society behind that.

Venezuela with a East German Stasi surveilance aspect. Block captains and individuals taking names of those who are dissidents. Your neighbors will watch you like a hawk and turn you in in a moment. Without the 2nd Amendment, you will be helpless. And the government will make sure you eat when they want you to, and what they want you to eat, if you can find food. They will control your vertical, they will control your horizontal, they will control everything. You will be dependent upon the DSA.

America would fall much faster than Venezuela did. The flyover country types would last longer but the big cities would turn into bloody battlegrounds in a matter of a few days. They are mostly libs who are proud to be dependent upon the government, thus easier to control. They would be raiding and murdering for every possible source of food. One large grocery store can not go one day without tractor trailer deliveries. The US has something that Venezuela doesn't, underground shelters for selected government and employees with thick steel doors. They would be surrounded by the military and would be protected until the military figured out that they were on the outside looking in. They would soon be dug out and killed but too late for the country to recover, Keep those firearms and ammo no matter what the government does to eliminate them, bury a few if you have to but do not ever get to the point of helplessness.
Another challenge, think about all of the countries around the world that hate us and would be pouncing on a wounded America like hyenas on a Wildebeest.

Thanks for these essential insights. But it'll be different here, this time. Right, Comrade Bernie? Right, Comrade Occasional Cotex?

Great article. Unfortunately, as with all the other great articles, it will mostly likely be ignored by our vast millennial brainwashed and clueless masses.

True as the writers scenario would be, left out is the most insidious. After taking over. the immediate task of the radical left would be consolidation, as DoD defines it, "organizing and strengthening a newly captured position so that it can be used against the enemy." Venezuela's citizens are harried, intimidated or even killed by government sponsored and armed gangs of thugs. The courts are stacked and the military hierarchy filled with Maduro supporters. None of this happened overnight but eventually it effectively cripples the opposition. We already see the attempt being made in the US to import masses of the ignorant poor from Latin America who, not understanding the reasons for their nations' demise, willingly vote for the Democrats who promise the same things their old leaders did. Does anyone think that the President wouldn't already be impeached and thrown out of office by the leftist kangaroo court if only they had both houses of congress?

We have been warned. Repeatedly.
if it happens, it will be because the American voter was dumb enough, ignorant enough, and dishonest enough to let it happen.
